I hear what you are saying and don't neccesarily disagree but nobody decent is binning off a job mid season to come to us. So, who does that leave us with - Eddie Howe????

Yep this is the issue. I'm just stating the season isnt done for us.

My choice is Gallardo but by then I'd imagine with Nuno or Mason we will be bottom half and out of the Carabao. So its a real tricky one.

Yeah sounds like he had enough which is encouraging in terms of them making a change.
Paratici deserves a lot of the flack for this.

If we were going to get an "interim" manager we should've at least had the balls to go for our original pick Fonseca who, at the absolute least, would have guaranteed us possession-based, attacking football and is a very charismatic character that the fans would've warmed to. After 2 years of Jose-ball, I don't think the fans would've minded a few bad results provided we were actually playing some nice stuff. To have bad results AND horrendous football just won't wash.

It was when Paratici came in that we threw the Fonseca plan out of the window and instead ended up with the awful compromise option that was Nuno.

Paratici's good at spotting and signing players but his managerial picks at both Juve and Spurs have been unanimously shite. I'm genuinely concerned about who he'll think is the best replacement for Nuno.

It’s weird that Levy keeps picking defensive managers

Managers he’s hired:

Santini
Sherwood
Jol
George Graham
Hoddle
AVB
Redknapp
Poch
Mourinho
Nuno

The only consistent pattern here is that the defensive managers do poorly, whereas attack minded managers (Jol, Redknapp, Poch) have been generally successful.

Us. we didnt match his ambition aka were not willing to invest n improving the squad to where he felt it needed to be.

He wanted the job but on his terms.

Bit of both.

Apparently we were the ones that pulled out of negotiations and it took Conte by surprise, but then he came out afterwards and made comments about certain clubs lacking ambition, which I suspect hinted at Levy being unwilling to spend the desired amount to push for titles (something Conte always demands).

Think Levy felt Conte was demanding too much and wouldn't bring through youth, whereas Conte felt Levy wasn't aiming high enough.

That isn't a fact. It's the United Kingdom of Great Britain AND Northern Ireland. So Northern Ireland is part of the UK, not part of Britain.

And anyone born in Northern Ireland can be considered British. Brendan Rodgers identifies as British. I managed a team in Belfast for 4 years and they were fiercely British.

It's not clear whether it was about us "not investing" or rather not wanting to give him the level of control to play his way or freeze out certain players.

You have to argue whether any manager who is wary of taking a step up because of the idea that working with Daniel Levy is a poisoned chalice, really has what it takes to manage at a top club. If it's true that Potter, for example, is not interested in making the move to Tottenham, then more than likely he has found his level and is not the solution. The opportunity is available now, and sure he could wait around for a marginally "better" opportunity in the future, but if that is the mindset then it's just as much a risk that an opportunity like this never comes again.

If on the other hand a manager truly believes he is good enough to manage at the top, and really believes that he will have other opportunities like this in the future, then taking an admittedly difficult job at Spurs will not be a deterrent to them. That's why I think Conte would still be interested, for example. He has nothing to prove. Some might call it arrogance but it's hard to deny this kind of self-belief is characteristic of top managers.

I agree with your second point, as to the first point, I wonder how true this is really and whether it's more about gossip and media narratives.

Under Levy the club progressed massively. We pay higher and higher wages, we might be more restrained with spending but we're still lavish compared to 85% of the division. We can now retain our biggest stars and get the best years out of them etc.

It's a difficult job, probably the hardest in england, but Redknapp, Jol and Pochettino managed to come out of it with strong, somewhat boosted profiles.

Has anyone categorically said that Levy is a monstro; like some of these wacky Italian and Spanish owners we used to hear about? A more business-like attitude may difficult at times but it surely not as horrifying as is frequently implied. Why is it better to work for Kroenke, or the Glazers, or Ashley? Why is working for Abramovic more appealing when their managers are judged harshly and undermined and have short violent tenures?

As I said, it's a hard job but if you believe yourself to be competent and are confident and ambitious, this job shouldn't be that unappealing and the hysteria is bit much.

I’m hoping Levy, after the stadium reopened and we’ve got revenue streams back, is able to promise a manager like Conte significant funds to build a team that can challenge for titles. We need to spend a minimum of £200m between now and the end of next summer to be truly competitive (3 world class players in key positions). If Lloris leaves we need a top keeper and in addition to that. Ditto if Kane cannot be fully reinvigorated.

Oh definitely. You could imagine Levy in negotiations enforcing him to get best out of Ndombele and Dele.
