If Pav doesn't play tonight, he's off IMO.

He's used to an artificial pitch, as Russia's home turf is one (or at least used to be), so you'd expect him to start.

A great SC poster made a similar comment a few hours ago.

I can see why we are waiting for Champions League qualification before making certain signings. Some players will be bought for experience and may not be deemed so necessary if we fail to qualify. Older players in particular would not be bought so for instance Fabiano if we qualify Remy if we don't. I doubt HR would be interested in the same players to use for the Europa League.

really?

so dismissing the propsect that there are a few him, sevilla and his agent are aware of? you think all parties would be publically declared by now?

is 29 all of a sudden the new 36 or something? How much would drogba go for at 32? or Steven garard at 30. clubs would pay the going rate all across europe becasue they come with a performace guarantee. Thats thier value not how much they can be later sold for.
29 is a risk when bringing a player into a new league and also means he wont have sell on value. It's more the fact that he has 1 year left on his contract yet none of the top clubs have made a move for him yet. If he's being sold his agent will whore him out to all the big clubs. The only club to make an official move for him is Marseille, and they're a way off Sevillas valuation of him.

I don't think he has many options out there. If there were, Sevilla would've started a bidding war for him by now.

In my opinion, the lack of interest in him is less to do with his age, potential sell-on value, and current value and more about the calibre of player that he really is. His experience would be valuable to us but I personally don't feel that he would represent a huge step up for us (and I speak as someone who has seen a fair bit of him and not just looked at the stats). Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he isn't better than any of our current crop, just that we could do better for the money.

Means nothing kcmei, simply that a lot of people have bet on it, so the odds have been slashed.

Regarding CL football having a MASSIVE effect on our transfers, im sorry, but Joey55 is spot on. Whislt qualifying for the CL this season clearly does have some increased revenue effects on the club and perhaps the wages we may be able to offer - his point is that its not a fixed stream of income. CL football is guaranteed for just this season alone, not the season after that..

We all know levy is very shrewd financially so I cant see him blowing our whole CL budget on the contract of a top player - if we want that player, he will deal with him in the same way with or without the added £20 mill, we wont jus give him a bumper contract because of some short term increased revenue - thats completely un DL.

The only thing we are waiting on imo, is the attraction the club then has if we get CL football. It will be much easier in convincing the likes of Fabiano if we can offer him CL football. I dont think we are waiting on qualification to see if we can suddenly "afford" a fabiano type player.

Spurs are more then capable of offering someone a contract worth 150k a week if they really wanted to, but our club isnt run like that, and thank god for that.

saying the same stuff stuff mate. fabinano is just one of the many 29 year old stikers in europe that we could get. You said we wouldn't sign any 29yr old becasue of x and y. Eto for example, is it a risk to bring him into a new league?

Ditto RVN - now 34 He was reputedly on the wish list a couple of seasons ago at the ripe old age of 31/32 - to do a job.

RVN is proven in the prem. Mil1lion's point is the likes of Fabiano, who have never kicked a football in the EPL at the age of 29 may need time to settle and that is something we cannot take a risk at. These are the best years of fabiano's career is we spend surplus of £10 mill on him, we dont want those years to be spent settling into the league.

Thats mil1lions point.

but we don't need these old folk if we don't qualify hence we are waiting for qualification to see if we need them, money is a factor but shouldn't effect our waiting.
