Whilst I'm sure many of you are still basking in yesterday's historic win (and quite rightly so), it will be interesting to see what AVB does with our trip to Greece, followed by Aston Villa on the weekend.

Unlike the Lazio match where I didn't expect wholesale changes, I wonder if the squad will be utilised more in this match although I still think it will be a very competitive side;

Injuries permitting, perhaps it will be something along these lines;

Lloris

Walker Dawson Caulker Naughton

Huddlestone Sandro

Lennon Sigurdsson Townsend

Dempsey

I'd like to see us go none of our key players from last night who are likely to start on Sunday v Villa. I have no idea who we could play up front. Obika I suppose, though I'm not sure he's got what it takes.

You could be close, I want to see more Tom Carrol though!

From AVB's desire to do something tangible in the Europa League this year, I think the best course of action for Carroll would be to try and go out on loan to get some much needed first team action.

We have to bear in mind that AVB does see the Europa League as a priority this year coupled with the Premier League so I really don't expect to see similar line ups to last year under Redknapp's stewardship.

I've got the impression that AVB loves Carroll though - I think he might get more playing time than we'd expect.

We really need the likes of Naughton, Benny, Parker and Adebayor back to help with rotation because the likes of Walker and Sandro are having to play every minute.

I'm hoping to see a lot more of Carroll this season. Looks class.

Will Naughton be back from his injury by thursday?

Yep, exactly. Sandro has looked run into the ground by the end of every match i've seen - poor guy needs a rest.

I think we will see a pretty strong team again, I recall AVB saying in the week that this is a game we need to win after only drawing against Lazio.

He may well rate him, but his chances of first team football with us will be limited.

Same could apply to Mason as well.

Think this will be the side, accept I think Bale will start with Townsend in for Lennon.

Gallas, Vert, Dembele, Lennon and Defoe kept for Villa. We will need an injection of freshness. I would rest Sandro as well but given Parker and Livermore are out I guess we have no choice.

If its a full first choice side I worry about the Villa game. I watched them today and they were very suspect at the back so they're there for the taking but a slow tempo like the first half against QPR could see them grow into the game.

We need to be coming out of the blocks quickly against them.

He will probably put someone like Dempsey up top, but he could play Cameron Lancaster.

Lancaster is still recovering from an op - so doubt very much if we will see him for this match. Obika is not in the Europa League 25 man squad so cannot play. I doubt if Coulibally will be played - still a way off the first team.

Its possible that Mason could be played there - in a Spanish type formation as Mason is a second striker rather than a main striker.

IMO, Panathinaikos could be the weakest team in the group. so it could be that Spurs play a number of younsters (a very young team drew against PAOK last season), although not as youndg as against PAOK. In which case the possible youngsters to be involved would be Townsend, Falque, Mason, Carroll, Parrett, Smith and Caulker (although Steven seems now to be starting to be a first team regular).

Its possible that AVB might even put one or two other youngsters on the bench of 7 players - in which case likely candidates might include Alex Pritchard and Kevin Stewart (Milos Veljkovic and Cristian Ceballos do not qualify as u 21's under UEFA rules).

Lloris
Smith, Dawson, Caulker. Naughton
Huddlestone, Parrett
Townsend, Mason, Sigurdsson, Falque

Subs : Cudicini, Vertonghen, Carroll, Sandro, Pritchard, Dempsey, Defoe

That's a lot stronger team than was played last season in Europa League but still leaves most of the players fresh for next weekend

I think the side will be a bit weaker than the one that started against Lazio, couple of changes etc...Daws, Hudd, townsend etc...but it will still be a very competitive side so listing a whole load of the youngsters is probably a tad futile.

Dembele had better be kept though, we need him fresh for Sunday. Going to be a hugely important player for us this season.

Even if no-one is back from injury, we could, just about, put out a side that rests all the players likely to be involved against Villa, though only assuming Gylfi starts that one rather than Clint, so:

Lloris
Smith Dawson Huddlestone Townsend
Mason Parrett Carroll
Falque Dempsey Pritchard
Subs: Cudicini, Stewart, Ekong, Dombaxe, Munns, McEvoy, Coulthirst
(Hall, Obika, Ceballos, Coullibally, Veljkovic etc are ineligible.)
On balance, that is no weaker than the side that last season got a point away against PAOK. However, particularly after dropping points against Lazio, I expect AVB to put out, if not a much stronger side, then at least a much stronger squad. So, even if it is just to sit on the bench, Verts, Caulks, Defoe and two or three others are going to have to schlep all the way out to Greece with a game in three days time.
To an extent unavoidable, but given that it is lack of cover for the leftback and striking positions that is leaving us so stretched, I do question the wisdom of loaning out Rose and Kane, and then compounding the shortfall by loaning out Byrne and not registering Obika.

This is pretty much our most important UEFA cup ground game. Win this and us and Lazio cruise into the two qualifying places. I also expect this game to be tougher than Villa.
