Not one new signing in sight!
Does it matter? If they can start the way they finished then I don't see the issue. Although I fancy Perisic will start, he had a good number of minutes on Saturday.

Can't wait for this one, this will be my wifes first game, well we did Wembley once for a pre season tournament, we played Barcelona but that wasn't a great day if I remember, we were sat right up in the heavens and it was a miserable day for weather making our way to the stadium.
I remember that, was there too, right up in the Gods. Was it Livermore who scored, from a header?

Anyway, can't believe we're in matchweek 1 already. COYS!

Could have been anyone from where we sat:LOL:

I think Perisic will start against Southampton but other than that think it'll be the same side that regularly played towards to end of last season, with Doherty in over Emerson.

Im going to tell everyone that Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi played and we drew 1-1. Nobody can prove otherwise :cautious:

Something that hadn't occurred to me till I read it elsewhere is that Bissouma might be suffering from the effects of Covid.
It certainly didn't help him being stuck in a hotel. So maybe come Saturday he's a whole lot fitter and ready to start or at least make a big sub's contribution
That gives me a bit more hope, because I know he is a proven Prem player

Long covid is a pretty scary prospect, especially if you are an athlete. We may well have to wait until after xmas before we start to see the player of last season, as he was a long way short in preseason.
It is a good job our fans are so patient, as they were with doherty....
Where has there been any suggestion that Bissouma is suffering from long Covid? I’m sure that’s not what @ShelfWatcher was suggesting, but rather that Bissouma is behind the curve in his fitness preparation in much the same way a player returning from a pulled hamstring would be.

He’ll be up to speed by the end of August barring any new injury. Hopefully Skipp won’t be far behind. In the meantime it’ll be PEH and Bentancur starting which was good enough to win 8 of our last 11 to finish last season.

Does it matter? Not if that's the best 11 Conte can put out, however, I would also go with Perisic & Biss.

Obviously its 'only pre season etc.' but for context this is Soton's form coming into our match.

Not exactly setting the world alight. If we get behind the team and match the intensity of our own pre season games its a great opportunity to start off with three points.

The appear to be playing with a new formation, which is 5122, or something of that variant, so my guess is they need to get used to a different formation, which should hopefully help us as by playing them while they're potentially not fully adjusted to the new formation.

I don't agree, they were inconsistent last season but were capable of good, pressing football and in JWP can score easily from set pieces. Conte will ensure we respect them even if some of our fans don't.
I’m not saying to not respect them and any PL team on their day can beat any other one but what I said was they have one of the worst squads in the league and I stand by that.

Aside from JWP I can’t think of a single decent player they have who the top 6 would even think about, they’re fully a bottom half club/squad as it stands and their strikers are distinctly average at best.

Hassenhautl is a decent manager and I agree they are capable of good pressing football at times and credit to him for squeezing out those performances with the personnel at his disposal.

Im certainly not saying this will be a gimmie but if we turn up and play a 6-7/10 game we should for sure have the quality to roll them over.

On their day Southampton can beat anyone.
So can pretty much anyone in the PL to be fair, aside from Norwich and Watford last season who were both pretty poor and Everton at times but the majority of teams can beat anyone on their day, Southampton are no exception however I really don’t rate their team/squad and if we are aiming for titles under conte and to act like a really big club, we should be rolling them over absolutely no problem tbh.

They played out of their skin against us last season in this fixture, despite them being largely crap the rest of the season.

They could easily turn it on again.

If we want to reach our goals this season we simply must be getting 3 points at home against teams like Southampton. No excuses.

It is going to be such a long long week. Is it still only Monday.

I see the "must win" quotes have come out early this season!

Yep, agreed Tommo, there is nothing to suggest long Covid, just a player who's behind schedule on his fitness levels

Okay... it's still under Expired Passes from May ?...
Mines not in expired passes , it's showing in wallet as it should be , just not showing the match details as it is supposed to do but I do have the QR code.
I don't live far away if not displaying properly by Wednesday will pop down to ticket office and ask what's going on, maybe they will give me a good old fashioned paper ticket.
