Hopefully playing our first game at the new stadium will give the whole club the huge boost it needs for the rest of the season

I’m not going to pretend to be a financial expert, but getting back in the CL with a pretty hefty stadium debt seems an absolute must from a business POV.

Otherwise it’s goodbye Eriksen, Alderweireld, for all the money we can get :greedy:

It'd be financially crazy for the owners of a club in a league with five teams far richer than them to go for a business model that relied on being at least fourth every year without fail. And while there's plenty of valid reasons to criticise ENIC, they're far, far from crazy or stupid. When we started the stadium we were a Europa side with no particular sign of that changing. It was viable then. It's viable now whether we're 1st or 7th.

The game changed, they did well, took control of it and won. It happens. Heck, the frequency of upsets is probably the key reason as to why football is so popular. It wouldn't be fun if all we had to do was turn up and put in some effort to guarentee three points. If you don't have the lows you can't have the highs.

Would you be happy if this is what Poch was thinking about that game? This is not the mindset that wins games (though I see from your other posts you aren’t that bothered about us winning games, it seems).

What the fuck happened? Fairly comfortable at half time. I nod off in the armchair for a quick nap and we've lost 2-1!

Lack a leader on the pitch. Someone who rolls his sleeves up when we’re up against it...gives someone a rollicking when they need it...we don’t have that. Lloris doesn’t do it, Kane doesn’t and neith does Vertonghen. Could Dier do it?...not sure either way it’s what we lack. Just seen Poch mention arrogance and complacency....surely that’s down to him to correct?

I didn't see any of them just strolling around. I saw a Southampton side who changed their game, took advantage of the weaker points in our squad - wide play and crosses - and player their hearts out to turn the game around and give themselves a chance of survival. I just don't think Harry Kane (probably the most driven footballer I've ever seen), Walker-Peters (fighting for his place in the first team), Rose (similar, as well as for his England spot), Dele (just back from injury) etc turned up and thought - I can't be arsed. I don't really want Champions League football, or my bonuses, or a national place. I'm just going to let us lose. It doesn't add up and I didn't see it. The game changed, they did well, took control of it and won. It happens. Heck, the frequency of upsets is probably the key reason as to why football is so popular. Yes, it would be exactly that. That's what winning teams do.

His thinking? Yes. Because keeping a level head is important when the pressure's on, sadly coming from your own side too, and potentially getting to the players. The last thing we need is for him to add to that, or suddenly take the attitude that a point next game at Anfield is a bad result and go all-out attack. But I would hope he would express his disapproval of the performance to the players, analyse how it could be better, and work with them on that. His ability to do that is why he's manager and we're internet randos.

Our full backs have been some of our best players in recent seasons.... why oh why do we rotate them every single game this year?

Give them a run in the team - get some consistency and we might have a chance of them getting some form going.

Absolutely bizarre that we switch every single game. Surely all 4 can’t be so unfit that they can’t face consecutive games? .... or so precious that the can’t face a spell on the bench?

What a shit way to start the day.

Why did you let that ball run Danny, Why....................................?
Probably would have still lost

They don't get a goal it's unlikely. Getting a goal gives them impetus & belief. In the end it comes down to taking your chances when you're in the ascendance. We did that in the 2nd half against Dortmund, but struggle to do that in the Prem for some reason.

I hope this is the minor mid season blip we always seem to have although it seems to have come a little later than usual this season. Back firing against Liverpool. And if we're getting smashed just go and battle of the bridge it

Why can’t we play like Fergie’s teams did?
They never took their foot off the pedal even when leading by a few goals.

Because Utd are a club which demands winning. We are content just to be contenders and see what happens.

Didn’t watch the game, but I’d be very surprised the players didn’t just greet every missed opportunity and the goals we let in with anything other than a disappointed look or a shrug of the shoulders.

When was the last time you saw our players bollocking one another on the pitch for dropping their standards or making stupid decisions and mistakes?

Show me this team, then, that never suffers upsets unless the player's visibly don't turn up. You'd have to go to a seriously uncompetitive league, even less so than Scotland. And that for me is boring. A whole season where you know you're going to win nearly every game, win the league by 30 points, and the performances don't even matter? Fuck that.

This whole ‘we can’t question a manager because we’re not managers’ thing is just odd. Chairmen with less knowledge and understanding of football than us have to take a view on managerial performance. It doesn’t mean we could do a better job, but it doesn’t mean we can’t express concern at mistakes being made. I’m not a footballer but I can tell you what some of our defenders did badly today.
