Good original post which provokes discussion. I myself believe that Ledley will be back next season fully fit and therefore Dawson will be on the bench.
However if Ledley cannot get back to playing on a a frequent basis, then offer him a coaching role and take it from there.
Lets not underestimate how difficult it would be to replace Ledley. Neither Dawson or Kaboul are at a level where I would want them to partner Woodgate on a permanent basis, but how do you replace the man? I cannot think of many better.....
That's it. You cannot replace him as an individual, but replacing him for someone who will play every week and is slightly less talented may benefit us as a team.
There are many teams in the league who have far inferior defences to us (on paper), yet boast much better statistics in the 'goals against' column. That is down to a number of things, but one of them will always be consistency in the team selection.
Dont dispute that really, I just think that we need better than Dawson and Kaboul. Dont want to think about it anyway:grin:
Maybe even an older, shorter term replacement while we wait for kaboul to mature - someone in the Sami Hyypiä mould.
Sami Hyypiä's contract is coming to an end with Liverpool isn't it?
Maybe he could be a replacement backup player in place of dawson. Could be good business imho.
Yeah. Like Brown, he's available for nothing in the summer.

I honestly think Wes Brown is the answer. I know he has played out of position but he is a solid defender with tons of experience, a winning mentality, the right age, the right price and is english which does seem to be a transfer policy of ours.
A Woodgate and Brown partnership with King playing when Woodgate or Brown is injured is the way to go forward. King is just too good to be given a coaching role
So a back 4 of Hutton Woodgate Brown Bale with Chimbonda Dawson King Gilberto as back up would be as good as we can realistically get for a team not in the Champions League. (Brown was solid once again tonight)
He will be getting many games for a while now that Vidic got injured tonight but didn't he want to leave or is on a free?Wes Brown won't be allowed to leave on the cheap - if indded he really wants to go. Fergy is playing it cute by playing Brown regularly. Where else is Brown going to get the kind of high level match he was involved in tonight? Not Spurs any time soon.

I don't think we'll go for a short-term fix like Hyppia in the hope that King will make a miracle recovery, and whilst Brown would be a solid acquisition I'm still not entirely convinced. He also seems to be holding out for a big-money deal with United, bigger than Levy will be prepared to pay for a player who's not absolutely top-drawer. I really don't see him happening, and think we'll go for someone from La Liga or possibly Serie A or the Bundesliga.
Still, all the rumours seem to be pointing solidly towards the Continent, and whether Levy will wear the idea of putting Brown on the same whack as Woody is irrelevant if Ramos doesn't fancy him. I'd say top targets will be Garay, Jarque and Lucio—and as far as Jarque is concerned, Espanyol have been letting in more goals than us lately, so there may be doubts over him and the Ayatollah.
