Should Ledley King leave?

Good original post which provokes discussion. I myself believe that Ledley will be back next season fully fit and therefore Dawson will be on the bench.

However if Ledley cannot get back to playing on a a frequent basis, then offer him a coaching role and take it from there.

Lets not underestimate how difficult it would be to replace Ledley. Neither Dawson or Kaboul are at a level where I would want them to partner Woodgate on a permanent basis, but how do you replace the man? I cannot think of many better.....:cry:

That's it. You cannot replace him as an individual, but replacing him for someone who will play every week and is slightly less talented may benefit us as a team.

There are many teams in the league who have far inferior defences to us (on paper), yet boast much better statistics in the 'goals against' column. That is down to a number of things, but one of them will always be consistency in the team selection.

Dont dispute that really, I just think that we need better than Dawson and Kaboul. Dont want to think about it anyway:grin:

I agree. I'm a believer that Kaboul could well turn out to be the real deal if given time, but I don't think he's ready yet. I also don't rate Dawson, and half expect him to leave this summer.

If we do this, we'll need to replace King with real quality - Jarque, Garay, Gonzalo just to name a few. Maybe even an older, shorter term replacement while we wait for kaboul to mature - someone in the Sami Hyypiä mould. Or maybe Wes Brown, and giving him a first choice role in his preferred position. Both will be available on free transfers in the summer. We could do a lot worse, especially price wise.

Sami Hyypiä's contract is coming to an end with Liverpool isn't it?

Maybe he could be a replacement backup player in place of dawson. Could be good business imho.

Yeah. Like Brown, he's available for nothing in the summer.

Cool . He's still a very solid centre back and we could do allot worse. He's certainly better then dawson for me. I'll be pleased if we can get hold of him. It will add good defensive cover along with the promising Kaboul.

Hypia has gone mate, he is Liverpool's weak link when he plays and anyone with speed or who turns quickly around him he makes Dawson look like Toure in comparison ie he is very very slow. Teams just go through the centre of Liverpool when he plays.
Naybet whilst was old(in football playing age) with us could read a game and had better pace than Hypia at his age and if there is someone like him knocking about that would be good.

I honestly think Wes Brown is the answer. I know he has played out of position but he is a solid defender with tons of experience, a winning mentality, the right age, the right price and is english which does seem to be a transfer policy of ours.

A Woodgate and Brown partnership with King playing when Woodgate or Brown is injured is the way to go forward. King is just too good to be given a coaching role

So a back 4 of Hutton Woodgate Brown Bale with Chimbonda Dawson King Gilberto as back up would be as good as we can realistically get for a team not in the Champions League. (Brown was solid once again tonight)

I'm with bubble here - given the choice between Brown or Hyypiä, I'd go for Brown, if only because of his age. Hyypiä not the player he once was, but I think he'd still do a good job for us for a season. Wes Brown though does tick all the boxes. If Ramos really is planning a big summer overhaul, this kind of signing would free up funds are other areas that Ramos feels need strengthening. I think Chimbonda
will leave in the summer, but Brown would also provide cover at right-back if need be. Get him in!

Wes Brown won't be allowed to leave on the cheap - if indded he really wants to go. Fergy is playing it cute by playing Brown regularly. Where else is Brown going to get the kind of high level match he was involved in tonight? Not Spurs any time soon.

I don't think we'll go for a short-term fix like Hyppia in the hope that King will make a miracle recovery, and whilst Brown would be a solid acquisition I'm still not entirely convinced. He also seems to be holding out for a big-money deal with United, bigger than Levy will be prepared to pay for a player who's not absolutely top-drawer. I really don't see him happening, and think we'll go for someone from La Liga or possibly Serie A or the Bundesliga.

He will be getting many games for a while now that Vidic got injured tonight but didn't he want to leave or is on a free?

I agree guys, but Man Utd aren't budging on their stance, and neither is Brown. Somethings got to give.

If you believe what they say, Levy's paying Woody £60,000-a-week, which is the kind of sum it will take to get Brown to Spurs. The difference in favour of the Brown deal is that there's no transfer fee, so Levy might well be tempted to OK the deal.

At the end of the day, United have reportedly been sniffing around for a new right-back (Hutton was a reported summer target), and Brown isn't likely to break the Ferdinand/Vidic partnership in the middle. If Fergie cannot guarantee Brown the kind of football he's got this season, I wouldn't be surprised if he accepted a move to a place like Spurs.

Still, all the rumours seem to be pointing solidly towards the Continent, and whether Levy will wear the idea of putting Brown on the same whack as Woody is irrelevant if Ramos doesn't fancy him. I'd say top targets will be Garay, Jarque and Lucio—and as far as Jarque is concerned, Espanyol have been letting in more goals than us lately, so there may be doubts over him and the Ayatollah.

I'm pretty sure that Barca has a leg up on Garay--they have some sort of deal that gives them a first option on him, that's not ITK, just stuff I've read. He's class, would love him, but Barca are far more likely IMHO--even though players from La Liga will look upon us favorably b/c of Juande. Jarque seems more likely to me, there are rumors that he is unhappy at Espanol--he isn't the cause of their woes, earlier in the season their defense was ferocious but they've no one to hold the ball up...
