I won't lie, I for one am glad he's gone. I just don't think he was good enough. Caulker looks like a much more solid centre half.

Fantastic first season, debut winner v Liverpool, formed a solid partnership with Dawson. Should've kicked on from there, but primarily the reemergence of Kaboul and the return of the King to the starting lineup most weeks meant he simply didn't get the games for it, and when he did get a chance he didn't look confident at all.

Best of luck to him under Chris, I'm sure he'll be a good buy for them.

Centre-back joins from Spurs on three-year deal
CITY have signed Cameroon international defender Sebastien Bassong from Spurs on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old centre-back started his career with French club FC Metz, where he made 87 appearances before completing a £500,000 move to Newcastle United in the summer of 2008.
Bassong was player of the year for the Magpies in the 2008-09 season, making 30 appearances before moving to Tottenham in August 2009 for a fee reported to be in the region of £8M.
He made a total of 44 appearances for the Londoners, scoring two goals in total including Spurs’ first-ever UEFA Champions League goal against Young Boys in 2010.
Last January he had a spell at Wolves on loan, making nine appearances for the Midlands club.
As a youngster Bassong was a product of the Clairefontaine youth academy, responsible for producing the likes of Thierry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, William Gallas and Louis Saha.
Bassong’s parents are Cameroonian and although he played two games for France at Under-21 level between 2007 and 2009 he was still eligible to play for Cameroon as neither of the games were competitive. He made his debut for the Indomitable Lions in 2009 and has gained 15 caps since.
City boss Chris Hughton commented: “Sebastien is a player that I have known well since my time at Newcastle and I’m delighted to have brought in someone with the Premier League experience he has got.
“He will give us power and pace at the back and again add to the competition in the squad.”

He wasn't excellent, he was only alright and we were playing well, he was only in because of injuries.

The fact he's not looked good since even on loan speaks volumes, relegated twice at three clubs now.

I had to laugh when people thought he'd get a look in because he's a bit of pace, poor defender, concentration levels of a senile goldfish. Not good enough to the point we've been trying to get rid of him for a while now.

Ryan Nelsen was even better than him.

People have short memories. He was excellent in his first season.

No, Omar, no short memory.
I pointed out, during the first season, that he had a terrible habit to dawdle on the edge of our own area and get caught in possession and it worried the beejaysus outta me. There's no getting away from it, he was lucky that habit didn't lead to conceding a few goals, in which case the judgement would be far more harsh from all on here.

Didn't dislike the guy, not the worst player I've ever seen in our shirt, just not of the quality to be first chocie, and not consistent, confident and focussed enough to come in and do a job as a squad player (which he didn't want to be, anyway).

Sorry Omar, Seb was a bad mistake a game. Liability, a Gomes in defence.

Just won't do.

How much indeed? Undisclosed?

I can't believe how people are defending him. He had a good first season? So what, the two years following he was a nightmare! You can't live in the past in football. He simply is not good enough for us now and that's all that matters. And Nelsen was a much better player than Bassong has ever been. It was just he was very old when we got to see him close up/

Also, the fact he went to Norwich speaks volumes for me. Very much a backward step. If he was so great surely bigger and better clubs would have been in for him.

I think that is the bottom line that everyone should be focussing on.
Like I said, I have nothing against the guy and hope he goes there, rebuilds his career, and maybe gets a move to a midtable club like Liverpool :giggle: Seriously, though, I do hope he flourishes to the best of his ability, and always had a soft sopt for Narch...but he ain't and never was no Ledley King, let's not get too carried away over a half-decent but, as I pionted out, flawed, first season.

He doesn't look overjoyed in this pic and he's also holding the shirt like a dirty nappy!

I think we overpaid a touch for him, but there is still a little more to come from him - I think he can be faster than he is, seems to run too upright so struggles to get the acceleration going (a bit like Huddlestone who at full pelt isnt slow, just struggles to get going and then stop because their centre of gravity is too high).

£5mill or so, not too bad, and hopefully he does a job for Chris Hughton at Norwich.
