Eriksen and Kane were poor no doubt. But Eriksen was shifted out and spent most of the game as a RM.

I don't know about Alli's movement being top drawer, I'd have to watch it again, but it certainly was more within Alli's remit to press Yaya than Eriksen - as per what was claimed above?

And I still don't think Alli should have been doing his running there.
Eriksen's passing was just plain bad, BC-25 good out of 38. I'm not claiming Eriksen should have been pressing Toure. I don't see why it has to be one player in particular. How do you know what Alli's remit was anyway? City hunted in packs. They outworked us.

We played lots of balls over the top but for the most part, they were poor in quality. And City borrowed heavily from the Leicester City 2015/16 manual. I was amazed to discover that they only played in the region of 360 successful passes, as they repeatedly sought to punish our high defensive line.

Yes, yes, yes JH, Eriksen was shit. I think I said somewhere it's probably the worst performance I've seen from him. But he wasn't anywhere near Yaya, he was RM, that was all I was saying in response to the guy above who said he should have been on Yaya (who was central).

I have a feeling Poch's plan was to kind of do to Guardiola what Guardiola ended up doing much better to Poch, and that is why Alli was rammed up top. I think it was a flawed plan in it's execution.

I think Son was put on because Poch wanted to try and counter what Guardiola had done on the flanks, but it was like putting a (at best) band aid or (at worst) salt on an amputation.

This tactical dissection is like picking at fishbones. City put us on the back foot because of a bold tactical gambit by Pep, but mainly because they played with furious anger, and almost plunged us into an ice bath in shock. They did to us what we've done to some other very good sides under Poch.

Pep got a tune out of them after their Everton thrashing, and it's our misfortune that they'll probably not play as intensely all season.

And we still got a point.

Very good signs

Hmm, if Eriksen had started to get involved in the game, I don't think Yaya would have just let him get on with it.
Yaya was key, and sprayed the passes around, but maybe I'm being unfair on Eriksen, who is just not built for any encounter with that kind of munster. And perhaps unfair on Silva who was equally brilliant.
Lets face it, Alli or Kane would have been shrugged off pretty easily too, and Yaya always had so many passing options, he was hardly going to get caught on the ball.

I am still curious why Davies wasn't brought on...

I have been going through the first hour of the game with a fine tooth comb and I think you are talking out of your arse about Alli. Nobody in a white shirt worked harder than him, he frequently led our pressing, he ran like a dog and his movement was top drawer, in my opinion. It wasn't his fault that our metronome had a day off or that Kane's touch and link-up play were not up to snuff.

Totally agree. If you look back in the match thread ( don't actually bother lol) you'll see I was singing Alli's praises in the first half. I was pretty pissed, but his work rate and pressing was phenomenal and was saying in the match thread at the time.

Unfortunately if others don't do the same it's obviously nowhere near as effective.
