10s all round to every fucking one of them for fighting for each other for the first time in too long. Both centre backs superb, Tanganga is going to be our captain, Skipp once he grew into the match was immense and anybody thinks Dele not up to it? Fight me!

18 months and about 6 hours of driving to attend this match, fucking worth it.

Aaaare you watching Harry Kane.

Fag paper between Lucas and Tanganga. But the team get a 10.

Skipp grew into the game and how he took pressure off of Tanganga after his final warning showed the potential he has as a future captain.

Dele finally showed that he has a pair of bollocks.

Dier looked like a different player, was 100% composed the whole game alongside Sanchez.

Only one game, but extremely promising. A few more key signings and a top 4 finish could be well within our grasp if we produce performances like that for the rest of the season.

Tanganga motm. That kind of physicality is something we've lacked, since wanyama got injured.
And if we have him and 2 CBs coming forward for corners/set pieces, then that is quite menacing in theory.

I thought sanchez and dier looked happy as a pair, especially with good defensive work in front of them with 3 in midfield.

Moura was excellent in transition and Son, our only finisher, did his job.
City were poor but this was a welcome win, and we must build on what worked well.

If we are going to be a scampering high workrate team, then ndom and the other guy are not natural fits in this system, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Amazing performance from every single one of them today. Not gonna lie, the first minutes of the match I was thinking that this will be a looooong game. But we were solid as hell from 20 and out.

Lucas. My golden boy. How could you NOT love him? I always want him to do well, and today he did. Some energy in that guy. Immense for us today.

My MOTM however: TanGANGSTA coming in HOT on the right back. This guy just keeps on delivering great performances for us, and today he had Sterling deep in his pockets. Japhet have a really bright future, that's for sure. So strong. So fast. And always in a beast mode. Love him!

Went for Tanganga, his performance in that first 20 minutes when we were under the kosh allowed us to get a foothold on the game. Faced with Sterling and Grealish and gave them nothing, top performance.

Unsurprisingly Moura a close second, battled, ran, maintained possession and was everywhere. Apart from his hat trick this was right up there with his best 90 minutes.

Special mention for Skipp and PEH, they were tenacious and won that midfield battle.

There was a player who has played for some years for the current best team and club in the EPL and went on to be the best player who took us to the European Champions Final, namely Sterling.

We also had a player who wasted at Villa for being too good for them, he joined the elites of this same club as Sterling breaking the British club transfer fee. He was also a star in European Champions competition. Namely Grealish

Now both Sterling and Grealish were tasked to take advantage of our "weak" green player - namely Japheth Tanganga......

The last time I look they were still trying to get out of his pocket!

How can he not then get MOTM?!!

I love tanganga, he was a rock, but more than that he looks like nothing bothers him, he never seems flustered or unnerved.

He turned the game, a couple of aggressive tackles got the fans on side and the players reacted.

My mom, but Lucas, well his strength is when he runs through the middle at pace, frightening. His final ball is also underrated. He is not made for possession football nor is he a winger. Just tell him to get the ball and run at goal, with Skipp and hoijberg behind we have nothing to worry about. He did that today and boy was he effective.

Skipp and hoijberg, both were very good, considering this is skipps first 90 in pl and against the champions and coming off the back of a broken foot - special is the word. Hoijberg, with very little preseason, thrown straight in, very good considering. But I was never really worried about him. Just a professional, like Skipp. Winks and sissoko Vs peh and Skipp - just a ridiculous step up in quality. I'm really looking forward to how skipp develops this season, he is already undroppable.

Dele, he showed today that he wants to be part of this football club. That's the effort I want to see, he still needs to show a bit more and improve his tackling, but if he puts that effort in he is starter. Another interesting one to see how he progresses in his new role.

Dier and Sanchez, Sanchez making the headline tackles but dier was excellent and quietly mopping up all the loose balls.

No bad performances and as no one as mentioned him, son. If we were going to win this, you knew he was the one. He was a bit hesitant in front of goal today, but his goal - just class. But challenging every header, working his socks off. Not a striker they said, could have fooled me, world class.

It's a brave new world with Nuno and today he made us proud.

He is the face of the club, not just for now but our history. He has a real connection with the fans, players management etc. There is a genuine humbleness about him but at the same time a professionalism that seeps through every blade of grass he touches. He puts the club and fans before personal glory.

The funny thing is, I thought you wrote that about Lucas as it applies to him as well 100%.

Moura for me, absolute driving force in attack.

some absolutely brilliant performances, Tanganga, both centre backs, holberg was unreal, skips quietly efficient, but a special mention to Dele, superb today, best from home on a long time!

Tanganga was outstanding but I gave it to Lucas. 100% positive and had their back line in panic mode time after time. Honourable mention for Dele who worked his nuts off and looked back to his old feisty self.

Everyone gave it their all yesterday which hasn't happened for a long while. It was almost as if the group was stronger with Harry not involved at all and I actually fear what him staying would mean for the group. I wouldn't say 10's all around as there were stuff that could have been done better but 9's seems fair enough for the whole team.

Great team performance!! I gave it to Lucas for his superb ability to wiggle out of their press and cause utter mayhem in the City defence. Taphet obviously on a par for his awesome no nonsense defending.

Special mention to the trio that SC love to beat with a stick, DIER, SANCHEZ and DELE, come on down, absolutely well played boys, credit where credit is absolutely due. I wonder if these players need precisely what Nuno brings to the table, structure.

Now that I’m not overwhelmed with excitement or delirious with fatigue:

Lloris: has so little to do in reality (albeit a couple of first half chances on target might have changed that) other than the De Bruyne chance, but he dealt with that and most other things well. Did miss one cross first half that had my heart in my mouth.

Tanganga: little to add to the platitudes he’s deservedly getting, but what a performance. I sit in line with the 6 yard box by the north stand so got to see his first half demolition of Grealish and Sterling up close and he was an absolute wall. Then going forward, while his delivery lot course needs work, his pace and aggression added a lot. Been saying he’d end up a top right back before it was cool ?

Sanchez: can’t ask for more, great example of proactive, front foot defending. Loved his one foray forward with the ball too, and looked as confident and imposing as I’ve seen him.

Dier: won everything in the air and, playing much higher up than people think he’s able to, made at least 3 great sliding interceptions first half to stop City being through on goal. Was class.

Reguilón: one that grew into the game, I enjoyed seeing him charge upfield with the ball again. Worked well with Dele generally.

Skipp: was surprised to see him the deepest, most central midfielder as he’s the fastest of the lot, but it became clear why quite quickly. He was nervy ast first but really grew into the match and made sure City never had the space to do their thing once the broke forward. Overcommitted a few times and that’s usually when City managed to look dangerous.

Højbjerg: like with Skipp, I expected him to be central so was surprised to see him on the right but it worked. Started an attack first half with his pressing that should’ve ended up with a chance but for some indecisiveness, and his all game really balanced that side with Tanganga not under as much pressure to bomb on but Lucas able to run with the ball without worrying about if he lost it.

Dele: I like this version. It’s not as exciting as Dele the 10, but Dele the 8 used his strength, energy and technique very well to protect his full back when he needed to, drive us forward when he needed to and give as an outlet with his size when passing out wasn’t an option. The running he put in speaks for itself.

Lucas: MOTM. His direct running, killing dribbles and relentless pressing was exceptional, and his bit of ingenuity to get the ball out of our defence led to our goal. Wonderful performance.

Bergwijn: definitely seemed to be playing with more freedom and a bit more zip. Did very well with his run for our goal and generally took care of the ball, I only wish he’d scored his sitter to kill the match.

Son: what else needs be said? Living up to his billing as the new main man already and he loves scoring v Oil Slaver FC. As I said in his thread, as he pulled back his left foot to pull the trigger, you just knew.

Lo Celso: got involved, could’ve scored.
Doherty: NET
Romero: NET

Nuno: picked a side that played for each other, fought for each other and knew what they were doing with and without the ball. Great game management too… goes to show that you can see out a match with a slim lead without resorting to backs to the wall, deep defending. Loved that the whole team pushed up 10 yards when he brought on Romero.

The fans: spectacular. I didn’t hear the roar of the crowd, I felt it in my bones.

I agree that Lucas is a player that connects with the fans but I think Sonny is more loved by fans and players due to his time on the pitch. I have always liked Lucas and he is one of my favourite players but hasn't had the playing time that he deserves. I think it will be interesting to see how the team progresses when/if Kane leaves and how the attacking pace changes.
