The gulf in class was so great that it almost seems churlish to criticise the players.

VDV was pretty good though.

Vic - solid, except for the goal
Defence - CB’s were quality, FB’s not so, thought UDog played well but he did get caught out of position quite a bit
PEH until his mad minute before he came off had a really good game
Kulu looked lost in the middle but looked so much better out wide
Richy put a proper shift in without much service
Werner just didn’t get the early ball often enough, when he did get on it though it was hugely positive.

VDV was comfortably MOTM. We’ve got an incredibly special player there. Just need to hope his hamstrings can take the constant recovery runs he’s going to need to make.

Understandably Maddison looked well off the pace.
Which was a shame with Kulu so disappointing in his role.
He kept going into areas that he couldn't effect the game.

Collective movement was not up to it today.

As evidenced by the fact that for probably for the first time this season invariably the man in possession had only one option.

For all the good that PEH did his third man running is not great.

Lordy - people still want to wade into Hojberg 🙄 I made a point of watching him closely tonight and he was excellent up to when he tired. Especially when making progressive passes.

Betancurs passing was often woeful (understandable I guess).

And kulu showed no aptitude for being a number 10 at all. Improved immediately he went to the wing.

Udog good in defence but still woeful at decision making near their goal. Hopefully that will change in time.

broadly in agreement with uncle buck.

As for why our defence chose not to defend Vic against Dias’ bullshit at every corner - we need to know for future reference. Maybe he didn’t want someone there for that purpose ?

It didn’t feel like we had a cohesive midfield today. The ball didn’t flow from defence to attack.

Vicario solid apart from the goal, could have been a foul or he could have been stronger.

Romero and VDV solid performance, too often not enough movement ahead of them in possession.

Porro did well and especially as City used his side to overload and attack, not much going forward. Udogie was defensively strong but needs to get his head up and pass rather than run with it into trouble.

PEH was excellent for most of the game but those two brain farts could have cost us. Bentancur really struggled and has way to go to get back to past form. Kulu just lost in the number 10 role, could and should have released Werner a number of times but just too slow, need Madders and GLC for that role and Kulu back to RW.

Werner must have felt like a leper with Kulu and Udogie just not setting him through. Richy chased hard but there was nothing coming to him from midfield or wide. Johnson some good moments but also suffered from Kulu and Bentancur being ineffective and Porro pushed back.

Skipp was like a breath of fresh air, passion, energy and bit of skill. Showed the other mids what they should have been doing. Maddison great to see him back and hopefully shed a bit of rust.

Ange, still battling with midfield options and not having any creativity without Madders and GLC. The front three he played needed balls being played through and our guys just weren’t up to it.

MOTM either VDV or Romero with a shout out to Skipp.

Yes, great to see Skipp(7) playing that well. Bents (5.5) back too early ? Udogie(8) my MotM, VdV (8) looking very good.

As Ange repeatedly says, the front third isn't clicking. Hoping Soloman can help.

Nusa signing might brighten our future
