It's simply bonkers.

And when Chelsea have the depth that they do, it would've made sense to have a top attacking threat on the bench.

I think Poch gave in to the temptation to play Son because his form has been so good, but didn't want to stick with the 4 at the back. That meant crowbarring him in to an unnatural position. I have confidence that he'll learn from his error of judgement though.

If we went with the same team that played last week we win that match . I can't criticize Son because he should be doing damage in their box, not ours. Davies is no Rose but he has been doing fine in recent games. No need to change our team shape just to keep him out of the game. In fact the first substitution should have been Davies for Dier or Wanyama, preferably Dier. Son then moved back to his best position. Totally mystifying.

Eriksen and Dembele our 2 best players. Kane was good too.

Lloris 5
Dier 4,
Toby 6
Verts 7
Trippier 6
Dembele 8
Wanyama 7
Eriksen 8
Son ( aka Pochettino) 3
Dele 7
Kane 7

Walker 6
Nkoudou 6

i just hope this game would not disrupt the team's momentum and confidence, most importantly, our whole season.

Yeah, I think this was a learning experience for Poch.

Eriksen MOTM
Agreed. Poch wanted to smother them, pin them back on the flanks and tonk them. But it didn't work.

Sometimes in these big games against quality opposition, you need to be more sanguine, and just keep it solid and work your way past them, like we did at WHL.

Remember Conte has lost big games as a manager, CL finals, WC knockout matches, he's just a bit more seasoned at the top level. Poch will get there, we've got to keep on following him...

It's days like this that make me think we're destined to always be also-rans now. The best team we've had in my lifetime and we'll still end up with fuck all to show for it.

We crushed Chelsea playing 3-5-2 so decided to play it again but couldn't leave out son because of his form so came up with that shoe horned miss.
Rookie mistake from him but he'll know now. Conte showed him you don't have to squeeze everyone in.

Where would rose and Lamela play, centre backs?

Anyway Dembele and Eriksen 9 out of 10. 8s everyone else apart from Hugo, Dier and son who maybe get a 5 or 6

Eriksen or Dembele. I chose Eriksen. Son was bad but it's not his fault. Poch is to blame for this defeat. He should have started with a 4-2-3-1 with Vertonghen on the left. You don't start a striker as wing back.

Exactly. Try it and develop it over a series of games but not in a semi final at Wembley against the league leaders. We dominated possession without slapping them in the way we did at home this year. It wasn't an appalling performance by any stretch but we were below par defensively. Two hasty tackles and a crap corner cost us. I thought Eriksen and Dembele were immense; as already posted we really need more pace for a pitch like Wembley

that's because we couldn't get our noses in front. They would have had to change their sitting deep and breakaway tactics if we had. So the key errors leading to their first two goals were decisive.

Agree on Poch though. Tough luck getting two injuries in the same position. I'd have gone Trips and Walker, wing backs need to know how to defend.

But the media talk of their absences. Rose would have made a huge difference. Lamela and Davies were also missed.
