He's played well in almost every game he's played this season with the occasional MotM performance. I really don't understand the vitriol he can inspire from some posters.

If you can't see what a great little player he is then you don't know football. One day a team will be built around him and he will shine even more.

Not my first name on the team sheet, but he's one of those players that every top team needs - willing to bide his time on the bench, and able to put in a serviceable shift in the right situation...sometimes even being one of the top players on the pitch.

With so many games and competitions for a club like ours, players like Little Tommy Carrol are absolutely vital. And that he came through our academy makes it all the better.
I agree with this. Not my favorite player but is slowly growing on me. We need him as he has a role to play in our immediate endeavors

I'm really a fan of him, I like how he always tries to get the ball forward and sometimes actually tries the little more risky through balls (which have not been the case with most of our players over the recent years tbh). However, his first half yesterday was very sloppy especially his passing game. Second half was much better and I think Poch's decision to move him up a notch to the CAM role did him very good.

Agreed. He's a cracking little player, and has had a few good performances lately, but he was pretty bad in the first half yesterday, like you said very sloppy. One bad game doesn't make him shit though, and he will have a lot to contribute in the run in.

I'm so chuffed that we are actually seeing the confident classy carroll that everyone was raving about for all those years. It's taken him so long to recover from a truly horrible loan at qpr and i'd thought for sure he'd be moved on. We have such a good mix of midfielders at the moment, really good stuff.

We have one of the best selection of midfield options in Britain maybe Europe and Tom Carroll is part of that.

Tom can be used (imo) in any of the auxiliary positions behind the main striker or in the set midfield.. This applies to Dembele Mason Alli and Bentaleb.

I hope we sell Fazio and promote Veljkovic who can mirror Dier and cover DM and CB.

We're in such a strong position in midfield and Auxiliaries Onomah Pricthard Eriksen Lamela Chadli Son N'jie it's frightening what this squad can achieve given time.

No one bad game or a poor half definitely does not make him shit at all, and that's what some of the Carroll-haters seem to forget/ignore over and over again

Poch have showed that he's really skillful with his midfielders, you just have to look at Dembele's recent improvements, Bentaleb, Dier, Mason etc to see what Poch have achieved in less than two seasons with them. Therefore I'm confident in him to make Carroll even better.

Yeah hopefully he can get a good tune out of Tommy. I have to say though, I think Bentaleb has gone backwards. He's been very very sloppy, and seems to always give away a suicide pass at some point in the game. I'm sure he can do better than he's doing now, and it could be a lot to do with the time he has had out of the team with injury.

So someone who doesn't have Carroll (or any other Spurs player) as a favourite or thinks him over hyped is a hater? As a new member (5 posts?) you have started well! You will be comfortable in this forum :(

Said as much in the matchday thread myself. Important player to have in the squad. Grew into the game yesterday. Not good enough (yet) to break into the first team regular, but fast improving.

Obviously overshadowed somewhat by Alli's emergence & Dembele's renaissance, but he plays far less so he's great to have as a rotation/option.

Absolutely brilliant football brain & his vision reminds me of Eriksen's last season.

If he remains loyal could well end up being our own "Sammy Lee"....

Carroll needs to produce 93 minutes quality play not 48. Vs Colchester in first half he could easily been only good or bad enough for the home side.

If he was built like a brick house I guarantee you he wouldn't get half the stick he gets now, funny how perception plays a part in the way you are judged.

Agreed, but his physical stature
or lack of it is , is essential to the way he plays.
He is light on his feet
and necessarily quick witted to survive.
Dembele is strong and this shapes the way he plays.
Carroll is more easily pushed off the ball
so he tries to release it more quickly.
Mousa has no reason to do so
because he can withstand physical pressure.
Let us stop criticising a player for not being someone else
and enjoy both..

Good luck when Pritchard breaks in to the team. He's even smaller.

Pritchard plays in the attacking midfield role, he won't get half the stick Carroll does.

Reason being is because people in this country are obsessed with outdated stereotypes like DMF'S need to be big and strong and things like players with pace are more dangerous then players with brains and defenders playing out from the back is risky etc...

carroll in an advanced role is a decent option, find him dire in a cm2, too many square passes and don't think when hes deeper hes half as effective or really knows what to do so sort of goes into his shell.
