Unless Barca realise they actually really can’t afford him. I know it sound preposterous but I’m not sure how they are even swinging €7 mil.

But yeah, I think this is nonsense.
Or the reports are wrong and he is just visiting their facilities, like he supposedly did with us.

Too little, too late it would appear.

Surely he's literally just dotting the i's and crossing the t's as we speak to become a Barcelona player?!

Someone find out if there's a private jet from Barcelona to Stansted chartered in the next 24 hours.

The choice is between the Spanish Barcelona and the English Tottenham.

Bergvall was not there when Djurgården played a training match against Västerås SK last Saturday. The midfielder was earlier this week in London and is currently in Barcelona.

- It has been written that Lucas Bergvall should already be ready for Barcelona. It is completely wrong, says a source to Expressen.

- It might as well be that he plays in Tottenham. It stands and weighs right now.

Tottenham already has former national team player Dejan Kulusevski, 23, who just like Bergvall received his football training in IF Brommapojkarna.

True, certainly a possibility for sure. Romano would have got it very wrong tho.
Depends where Romano is getting his info - maybe someone at Barca. The fact that the report saying Bergvall hasn't decided yet is coming from the Swedish media, suggests that this is coming from the player's side.

There's a possibility Barca may struggle to register him.

As I understand it all of Barca's recent purchases, including Roque, were funded by a Venture Capital project called Barca Media and their projected $1bn valuation.

The US Govt has tightened regulation on over valued flotations to protect investors.

Investors have been dumping their shares, and consueqntly the whole venture is likely to collapse by the US deadline of April.

Meanwhile La Liga have lowered Barca's wage threshold (they are already massively over it) AND the money they're allowed to use from their "levers" for Spanish FFP.

TLDR; they might not be able to register him or anyone for a while without making big sales first.

So you are saying there's a chance?

Barca havent a pot to piss in, cannot register any new players and probably have to sell in the Summer. just saying.
It’s been like this for a number of years though, no? Surely they gotta crash and burn at some point. They don’t make sense.

They’re basically the antithesis to Levy’s dream club.

Think I heard on TFS pod that the media sale factors in qualifying for CL, they may not qualify so could reduce the money they might receive from the media sale?

There is also the factor that Xavi deciding to leave at end of season may have changed things. They can't be making him guarantees if the new coach doesn't want to integrate young players.

The thing is, every pro athlete across all sports has to have an internal belief that they could be the best in the world just to make it to pro level.

He probably believes that within the next year or two he could make the jump to being a starter at Barca and will get his move there. Whether it works out is another thing but hey, it's worth the shot. Just remember Allan Halilovic is a great cautionary tale of big up and coming talent literally falling off the face of the earth after joining them

There is also the factor that Xavi deciding to leave at end of season may have changed things. They can't be making him guarantees if the new coach doesn't want to integrate young players.

It's not clear that the rules even allow them to hire a new Head Coach until they reduce the salary bill.

They may also struggle to re-register Roque in June, as he was only allowed to join under the "emergency injury regulation".

It seems they included a 40m payment in their Spanish FFP figures from this VC "Barca Media" investment, that is no longer forthcoming.

La Liga now insist that this black hole has to made up somehow.

This season, La Liga slashed Barca’s official permitted salary limit from €648million the previous year to a new figure of €270m. This rule applies to managers’ wages, too.

That came after changes voted in by La Liga clubs in November 2022, limiting the use of ‘lever’ money (essentially, the mortgaging of future earnings) for current expenditure, such as transfers and wages, to five per cent of a club’s annual turnover.

Barcelona’s real squad cost for 2023-24 — the total of salaries and transfer amortisations — is officially budgeted at €492million. As they have exceeded their level, La Liga rules say they must make cuts before signing any more players.

Indeed, when the Barca Media launch ran into problems in August, Laporta and other directors had to cough up €20million in personal guarantees for La Liga to accept the registration of free-agent signing Inigo Martinez and the last-minute loan arrivals of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.

Without the arrival of the €40million Barca said they expected from Libero, it has been impossible to add seriously to the squad during this winter window, even though Xavi, Laporta and Deco all wanted that to happen.

They signed Vitor Roque as an ‘emergency’ replacement for long-term injury victim Gavi. However, under La Liga rules, the young Brazilian attacker is only registered until June 30. After that, he is ‘unregistered’, and space within the salary limit must be made to add him permanently to the squad.

Barca agreed to pay up to €61million (the initial fee was €30m) to sign the 18-year-old from Athletico Paranaense, and the wages paid to Roque over the second half of this season get automatically subtracted from the total available to the club for 2024-25, as required by the details of the ‘emergency injury replacement’ regulation.

Yet again, Laporta’s board have used a temporary quick-fix to register a player, without really dealing with the huge underlying problems in their squad cost and club finances.

I think from what’s been written he probably joins Barca, but if he’s been talking to Xavi who is suddenly departing then he might be a bit concerned. Especially if he’s talked to Ange. He’s probably wanting to hear more about their plans and how he fits in.
