I had wanted him to get a yellow against WBA and then one against Shitty. He would then serve his 2-game suspension against Sunderland and 'Boro, coming back refreshed against Liverpool. Can't understand why he didn't handle a ball deliberately near the end of the last game.
Dangerous game there. With that, he could reach 3 game ban during the business end of the season.

Shame Rose didn't pick up a yellow at the weekend. If he got booked against City he'd have missed Wycombe and Middlesbrough, two games I think we'd get away without needing him.

Apologies, I missed this. But even better, one of the games would be Wycombe.

no.

Its a 1 match suspension for 5 yellows before January 1, Its a 2-match suspension for 10 yellows by sometime in march(?), and then there is a 3-match suspension for 15 by the end of the season

ETA - the 10 card limit re-sets on the second Sunday in April

On this subject how disciplined has Wanyama been? Only 4 yellows!!

The idea of purposely picking up yellows is all well and good in the short term, but what would happen if he then has to go the rest of the season without picking up five more yellows in order to avoid a three-match ban near what would almost definitely be the business end of the season? That's playing with fire...

Indeed. He would be better off being reminded by Poch not to get any needless booking by diving in when we already have the game won etc. It wouldn't do any harm to sub him in those situations either.

I don't see there being much difference between Jan being out for 6 weeks or 12. Either way he'll miss our next four (inc. City and Pool) but be back in time for our last 5 games when we really need him. Sooner the better, obvs, but just want him back for last 5 games

I agree with you here - you can be too smart for your own good when it comes to these things.

Fair enough, I could see Poch pointing out to a player that a yellow towards the end of a game might not be a bad idea in certain circumstances but to try to plan your cumulative bookings so you know when a ban will be will definitely come back to bite you.

One game at a time - concentrate on the three points and let the rest look after itself.

I agree. He's such an aggressive player that it's got to be hard to tell him to bring it down a notch when we're in such a situation, so he's got to be mindful of picking up needless cards for untimely challenges or petulance (for lack of a better term).

It's really frustrating to have lost Verts for this time, especially as the injury came in a game where we were cruising (but freak injuries can't be helped, and they seem to happen regularly against WBA, ask Toby)

I know Wimmer did a good job covering Verts last year and I am sure he will do so again, I'm also sure Davies can fill in well as the LCB in a CB3 as he does for Wales

But this season Verts has been so immense that he's a huge miss despite our excellent options as cover, he's been as good if not better than Toby and Toby has pretty much established himself as the best in the league I feel

I also think the CB3 was enabling Verts to showcase his great footballing/attacking qualities and releasing him to be the best he can be and it's such a damn shame that he's going to have to start over somewhat after a long lay off now, especially when the incident was so random and inconspicuous

I guess it was the extra freedom that lead to him flying down the wing with a dribble that actually caused the ankle inversion injury, if only with hindsight he would have relaxed and cruised the rest of the game since we were so comfortable

Still - brightside = Wimmer and or Davies now get their chance to shine

Last season people were also worried when Vert got injured but then Wimmer was performing so good that the same people were wondering if Verts should get back to the 11 when he was back. So yeah, I am little bit worried but... not so much. We can get worried when we lost Kane or Eriksen. COYS

We should try to understand why this happened so we can prevent it happening again. Is Poch pushing them too hard in training? Do the players have too much lactic acid build up? We need answers!

The players are fighting way harder for Poch this season.. Look at the eagerness Verts went for the ball heading out of the field that caused this injury upon the mistimed landing..

Instead of drinking his piss, Jan should be pissing on his ankle, then rubbing it down with piss ice. Then warm piss, piss ice, etc. Heat-cold-heat-cold.

I for one was never in doubt about that, it was evident that the spot belonged to Vertonghen when fit. Wimmer did good, but not THAT good.

100% agree

And equally now even though it's great to have Wimmer and Davies capable of covering there's no doubt Verts will still be a big loss

As you say both are good but not Vertonghen good

I agree. Sure Verts is better then Wimmer. No doubt. It's like driving Mercedes all the time and you swap it for Audi for two months because you need to repair your Mercedes. Audi is good. It's not Mercedes but it's ok. You can live with Audi for two months. But when your Mercedes is back your happy to drive it again. You feel sorry for Audi because it did very well. But Mercedes is just another level.

No way! He's been spectacular and we need our best players available to win the title. The more he plays the more likely we are to win.

What if the opposition happen to drive a BMW? The Audi may not be good enough that day...
