Don’t criticise Paratici for buying him for Nuno. He’s clearly a half decent full back, just not a wing back unfortunately.

Pretty solid defensively again and good energy.

Anybody think he still has a place in our squad as a defensive RWB and perhaps as cover for Romero at RCB?

I'm starting to feel he has the attributes to play RCB - Good heading, strong in the tackle, inconsistent with holding the line sometimes but he usually defends long balls into the box very, very well.
Yeah I feel he’s more a defensive right back same way you’d never have played Corkula wing back and would be more a right sided centre back.

Some full backs are more leaned towards centre back than winger / wing back if that makes any sense lol.

Bit like Gary Neville as well - good right back and also very effective on right side of back three but you wouldn’t necessarily see him as good as a wing back as say Carr, Walker or Trippier.

He really does make some fantastic runs off the ball. The one where he ended up forcing a save from Ramsdale just one instance, but I really do love the attacking instincts he shows. Pinpoint cross that might’ve ended in a Sess goal if Lucas didn’t try acrobatics, but he’s growing in confidence and the ability isn’t lagging behind to a level that limits us severely with the ball. I’ve been really pleased with his contribution in the build up recently. He’s just super likeable and I really want him to make it here.

I think people are slowly warming to him. That image of him holding a flare during a goal celebrition is an iconic photo. Hopefully we get 4th so that image has meaning to it.

I like him. He's starting to turn a corner.

I don't think he's been that bad defensively.

He's now making much better runs. That header was unlucky.

His best performances have all been against the top teams in the league which says something. Defensively he is decent, you can't fault his effort and passion and his off the ball movement has improved massively, if he could only learn to cross and finish. We need first 11 upgrades at WB but both he and Sess are showing that they would be worth keeping around the squad.

Decent is exactly how I would describe him as a player. Not outstanding and could be improved upon but he doesn't let us down.

Pleased to see him doing better with us, Conte seems to be able to improve so many players.

Another solid performance. Sometimes it just takes time. Still need to look for a player there with more attacking intent but he did well. Burnley will be a different prospect for him but he was good last night nonetheless.

Very good last night.
After we went 1-0 up and the scum crumbled and they went down to 10 men

Before that our right hand side with Emerson & Sanchez was looking very dodgy!

Still lacks any type of composure near the oppositions goal

Wish Sess had his natural confidence and got in the great positions that Emerson does

I agree. Martinelli (very, very special player, unfortunately) had him on toast at least until the sending off.

I think it's pretty unfair on modern WBs that they're expected to be literally amazing at every aspect of the game. They have to bomb forward and back the entire game, be incredible at tackling, be incredible at link-up play, be incredible at crossing and incredible at finishing.

Truth is there's not many - if any - WBs out there who can do everything. Add to that the fact that they'd be so coveted there's almost no chance they'd come to Spurs currently.

Royal has shown in the last few games that he's really good defensively and has good link-up play (especially with Romero it seems, shame he's injured until the end of the season). He got on the end of Kane's cross with a good header that most times would go in, sure his crossing isn't amazing and it can be frustrating at times but he's a young lad and I think we just need to give him time. We gave Doherty time.

Agreed. However; it does look like he's been coached on not getting too tight, which was one of his biggest problems. Martinelli is a very decent player and Emerson and Sanchez did a good job in not diving in and allowing him a free run in on Lloris.

Even if it was against 10 men for most of last night the fact is it is 90 minutes at Anfield and 90 minutes of a crunch NLD that he has come out of very well. There's been too much criticism in his direction so people must give credit where it is due.

If anything, his uptick in form and performances against top competition should allow us to recoup his transfer fee if we go a different direction. He would be an excellent FB in the right system, just not sure that is Conte’s.

I’ve not been particularly impressed up to now, but I will have to admit he does appear to be improving. Maybe it’s sometimes too easy to dismiss the effect that a complete change in environment can have on a player. Still only 23. Signed by Barca at 20 but sent immediately on loan for two years, then once back sold after only 3 games to a club in a country where he doesn’t speak the language. First season almost feels like a writer off as a bedding in period.
Doherty hasn’t looked great either, yet suddenly they are both finding a bit of form, perhaps it is has just take this long for Conte’s structure to really get embedded. Likewise, maybe the addition of the Juve duo has helped tactically, having Kulusevski playing ahead, and Bentancur tucked inside, plus Romero coming back in and settling in at RCB.
