certainly not a bad last resort, gone are the days of ryan nelsen being the last resort
Michael Bridge is usually good for us. I have little doubt that we're aware of Lenglet at least.

I have clearly made my concerns on him known, but the more the window goes on the more I could see this one actually happening, against all odds. Lenglet has lost his form/confidence, but it's clear Conte is looking for playmaking and fluid ballplaying from that LCB position in the Bastoni vein. Lenglet is nothing if not a gifted passer and good with the ball at his feet.

This weirdly feels like it may have legs. Yeah, he'll struggle to adjust to the Prem's physicality and yeah, he'll make some mistakes but even I wouldn't deny that there's a serious player in there. Perhaps a change of scenery would be all he needs, and crucially he would be very cheap.

I watch all Barca games and Lenglet has become over the past 2 seasons an accident waiting to happen. If he comes on in games he either gives away a penalty, is the cause of a goal, or gets himself sent off. Considering some of the players we have been linked with for LCB if we were to end up with him that would nothing short of a panic buy or loan and would do nothing for the team or squad. Please don't do this Fabio.

I think Lenglet is a player who needs to play in a back 3. If this happens I can see a loan to buy situation so we can take a season to see how he does. With proper Conte training I’d imagine he will rediscover some form. Frees up funds for a mega RWB (although none seem to be on the market) or forward. I can live with it.

Could that not have mirrored the description of Dier 12(ish) months ago. Tidy player but always got an error in him when playing as a CB in a back 4. Spends time training under Conte playing in a back 3 which masks his flaws and accentuates his skills, and towards the end of the season he actually appeared to be the lynchpin of our defence.
Now I’m not saying Lenglet is the missing link to an unbeatable defence, but give the hype around him at Sevilla, and the horror show that has been Barca the last couple of seasons, just maybe Conte could get a tune out of him. Given Davies form at the tail end of the season, Lenglet doesn’t have to hit the ground running as urgently.
Personally, I think the Bastoni deal is dead in the water, and ideally we’ll go after Ndicka, I’d be ok with that. Torres/Lo Celso trade off could change the landscape. Perhaps whoever Conte prefers out of Hincapie or Lenglet are next after that.
Key is that we need one more CB alongside a LCB of Rodon and Sanchez/Tanganga are off, and Bremer deal also looks off the table, so who is the other CCB option??

Personally I think Lenglet would be an excellent signing on a loan with option deal. He was a quality player and rated in excess of £60m about 18 months ago. Playing in back 3 he could easily get back to that level again.

Would make sense if it was in addition to another CB target (Bremer/Bastoni/etc...).

If he recaptured his Sevilla form he could become a starter.

Could free up more funds for attacking upgrades too.

If the Lenglet loan option is because the budget has been reallocated to other areas for high quality, it’s a decent trade off, assuming Conte thinks he can get him back to Sevilla form.

We're supposedly in talks for about 5 Barca players every summer, only Emerson has actually ever happened.

Yeah, if it's because we will spend lots of money on other areas including a LCB then fine, a loan seems reasonable. I think it could even be clever, if for example we spend lots on a RW, ST and LCB.

But if we are signing Lenglet as our main LCB signing, then that is extremely underwhelming. In fact, it's horrible.

Would be surprised if we bring in two LCBs (Lenglet plus one) considering that we already have Davies.

He was very good in his first season and a bit when Valverde was there.

When Setien come in, thats when it started going downhill.

Setien and then Koeman played with a really high line. Lenglet is not the quickest and when he played next to Pique (likewise), it was obviously a disaster waiting to happen. His confidence has gone but this is still a guy who got in France Euro 2020 squad with all the talent it has.

And in a 3, his pace is not relied on as much.

Not saying it's a great signing if true but for a one year loan and option to buy, brilliant if he is good and if not then we can go again for Bastoni with one year left, maybe Gvardiol etc
