Someone should be able to make a constructive criticism of any player without others calling him out as a hater. No one is disputing Eriksen's ability and importance to the team, but this season he has been a shadow of the player he was 2 or 3 years ago. He has had more poor games than good for us this season and yesterday (like many of the others) he was poor.

With literally seconds to go, that back pass was not unlucky, it was reckless and stupid and a player of his ilk should have booted it forward or in to row z, but not back to an area where some of the most potent finishers in world football were lurking.

I am confident and hoping that this will come as a wake up call for him and we will get our old Eriksen back, because I am sure that he more than anyone else was horrified at what he had done.

He said in a post match interview 'i must be the luckiest guy in the world tonight', so he knew

Didn't know that! Glad he is aware, which can only bode well!!

Oh he knew mate.

I can't find (well, can't be bothered to find) his post match interview, but he was with Son. The interviewer (and Son) both mentioned the back-pass & Eriksen said he what @shoggy33 told you about, and then did the old.....

Bar the mistake he was our best player on the night. However if I’m a Real Madrid big cheese assembling a super team would I really go for him. He’s really in the same camp as Ozil but better. He doesn’t really fit the current trend for front 3 with two pacey wide men. And then if you drop him back into midfield he’s a bit of a liability in terms of tackling. Unquestionably he’s a fantastic player but that doesn’t mean he’s irreplaceable it just means you play a different way. Although he works hard and runs a lot he’s just very weak in the tackle essentially meaning he’s a bit of a luxury player if you play him in midfield. It really is all about the system and fitting him in.

Do we expect too much from him? Imo he hasn't played well last few games but then sky/bt commentators mention how well he has played and reel off impressive match stats...

His fuck up was the icing on the cake of all his recent shit performances. It was exactly what I’ve been moaning about him doing for months now, dallying on the ball, poor touches, poor passes etc

Let’s get real here, it was a huge fuck up that would have cost us hugely, absolutely massive.

That Aguero was a gnats pube offside doesn’t excuse Eriksen.

That said I thought Wednesday he was one of our better players and did well, but again that mistake was just a continuation of the trend of his general performances for months now.

All in all he’s been a letdown this season.

People need to stop focusing on moments rather focus on overall play, yeah okay has that goal been given we would have been out but who made the assist for Son's 2nd goal? If he hadn't had scored that we wouldn't have been in that position in the first place which is why it's important to focus on how he performs for the entire match.

Totally agree. His work rate was unbelievable in that game. He was our furthest man forward towards the end of the game and he was trying to do two jobs at once. Obviously it was a mistake giving the ball away like that but people seem to be ignoring what actually happened. We had every player around our own area and were breaking away and he was the furthest man forward as he sprinted out. He didn't have anyone to play the ball forward to when he got the ball. He could have just hoofed it forward like Wanyama had done minutes before but that's not really him is it? Instead he turned to try and find a teammate and was surrounded by three City players so he tried the only pass he could. Next time he'll probably hoof it.

I agree that he put in a real shift as did all of our players but I'm not ignoring what actually happened. If he turned around the way he should have done it was as clear as day to him or anyone that a safe clearance was available even if not to one of our players. My view is that as long as its to safety that's the best course any day or night of the week at that stage of the game as that's the bigger picture for the teammates and club and fans. I don't buy into this theory that just because he has so much skill he shouldn't do what Wanyama did because 'it's not him'. When the stakes are that bloody high and you are fighting for your lives to hang onto what you've got i.e.a slender lead, no one should be too proud or high and mighty to think they are above doing what big Vic did by hoofing it out to safety. I'm glad he acknowledged his mistake and was humble enough to do so very publically. Hopefully if we're in the same position again that let off will serve as a reminder to him or every Spurs player that there's no shame at all in hoofing it out anywhere into safety in the dying minutes of games instead of trying to be a smart arse in preference and getting bitten big style on the same backside.

He’s a great player, who has no one in the squad to lighten the load for him.

Any criticism has to be made with that in mind in my opinion, I dearly hope he stays but if he doesn’t he has worked his nuts off for Spurs for 6 years. I love him for that.

THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINALISTS BELIEVE THEY CAN INK A NEW CONTRACT WITH THEIR DANISH PLAYMAKER AND DOUBLE HIS CURRENT SALARY

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR ARE INCREASINGLY CONFIDENT THAT PLAYMAKER CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN WILL AGREE A NEW-LONG TERM DEAL WITH THE CLUB, WITH TALKS BETWEEN THE PLAYER AND THE NORTH LONDON SIDE ONGOING.
THE MIDFIELDER, WHOSE CURRENT CONTRACT EXPIRES NEXT SUMMER, HAS BEEN IN DISCUSSIONS WITH THE CLUB’S HIERARCHY ABOUT AN EXTENDED DEAL FOR ALMOST A YEAR, WITH SPURS LOOKING TO AT LEAST DOUBLE HIS CURRENT £75,000- A-WEEK SALARY.
SPURS HAVE BEEN KEEN TO TIE DOWN THE PLAYER FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE AND ARE LOOKING TO BRING THE ENIGMATIC DANE’S SALARY ON PAR WITH TEAMMATE DELE ALLI, WHO COMMITTED HIS FUTURE TO THE CLUB BY SIGNING A NEW SIX-YEAR DEAL IN OCTOBER.

THERE HAD BEEN FEARS IN RECENT MONTHS THAT ERIKSEN, WHO IS SUBJECT OF REPORTED INTEREST FROM REAL MADRID, WAS LOOKING FOR PASTURES NEW, WITH TALKS BETWEEN THE PLAYER AND THE CLUB OVER A NEW DEAL STALLING EARLIER THIS YEAR.
BUT DESPITE INCREASED TRANSFER SPECULATION IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN SPURS AND THEIR TALISMAN HAVE PROGRESSED SIGNIFICANTLY IN RECENT WEEKS, WITH BOTH PARTIES KEEN TO RESOLVE THE MIDFIELDER’S FUTURE BY THE SUMMER.

WHILST THE GENERAL MOOD AROUND THE CLUB SURROUNDING THE PLAYER’S OFF-FIELD AFFAIRS HAS BRIGHTENED, SPURS STILL HAVE SOME WORK TO DO ON THE PITCH TO CONVINCE THE 27-YEAR-OLD THAT HIS FUTURE BELONGS WITH THE PREMIER LEAGUE SIDE.
DESPITE REACHING A HISTORIC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL, TOTTENHAM’S ENTRY INTO NEXT SEASON’S COMPETITION IS ANYTHING BUT SECURE, WITH THE CLUB SCRAPING IT OUT IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE WITH NORTH LONDON RIVALS ARSENAL, MANCHESTER UNITED AND CHELSEA FOR AN ALL-IMPORTANT TOP-FOUR FINISH.
MISSING OUT ON EUROPEAN FOOTBALL’S PREMIER CLUB COMPETITION NEXT SEASON WOULD BE SOMEWHAT UNTHINKABLE FOR A PLAYER OF ERIKSEN’S QUALITY, AND THE DANE MAY DECIDE HE IS BETTER PLACED TO WAIT UNTIL TOTTENHAM’S ENTRY INTO THE COMPETITION FOR 2019/20 IS SECURED BEFORE PUTTING PEN TO PAPER ON A NEW-DEAL.
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL OR NOT, SPURS BOSS MAURICIO POCHETTINO WILL BE DESPERATE FOR ONE OF HIS KEY MEN TO REMAIN AT THE CLUB.
WHEN ASKED ABOUT THE MIDFIELDER’S FUTURE EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE SPURS BOSS REMAINED TIGHT-LIPPED, BUT REITERATED HIS DESIRE FOR THE FIVE-TIME DANISH PLAYER OF THE YEAR TO SIGN A NEW DEAL.

I haven't read much of what was wrote about players today but I thought Eriksen had a good game today, made some excellent passes, think he benefits from having players like Moura and Son infront of him. I think sometimes Kane drops back and takes up spaces which Eriksen operates in which isn't always ideal as Eriksen isn't really a run beyond type and also means Kane isn't on the shoulder for Eriksens passes. In any event I thought this was the best performance from Eriksen in recent weeks. Shame like everybody else that he couldn't take his chance.

Countdown to JJetset coming in and telling us that Eriksen's already got his kid enrolled in the Madrid Danish school, has started taking paella making classes and has been asked to be best man at Sergio Ramos's wedding.

I don’t want to piss on anyone’s chips but that Marc Benamram is a massive chancer on Twitter who tries to pass himself off as ITK, despite posting vague stuff that often seems lifted off these boards ITK.
