He looks like a traditional winger, preferring to go outside on his left and cross. I'd love to see him on the right hand side cutting in on his left.

Son-Kane-Gil

Can you imagine a winger that crosses the ball timely and accurately? Kane for Golden Boot! with Son and Dele 2nd and 3rd in the goalscorer list

This move will break down / get hijacked / stall and you will have millions of Spurs fans hanging effigies of Paratici for missing out on a player they had never heard of 48 hours earlier
This is the genius of Paratici because who can hijack a deal which involves Lamela?

Things always happen on Ali Gold’s days off. Smart player with bags of ability, will 100% get people off their seats at the lane. All for it

I’d be very surprised if he’s not being bought to play as an inverted right winger. He’s played there plenty and I think that’s where he’ll develop into being a potential star. He’s a baller and a really exciting signing if it gets done.

My main worry is that there isn't an obvious place in the squad for him given his strong preference for playing wide left.

The main criticism of Paratici from Juve fans was that whilst he has a good eye for players he's not particularly good at building a squad as a whole and spending the right money on the positions most in need.

Hopefully we've just got more money than we've been letting on but if not then we simply have to be focusing the funds on defence.

Juve fans are entitled bunch when it comes to Serie-A like the United fans in PL. I wouldnt give too much credence to what they saying.
Paratici got Chiesa on loan last season with option to buy which was surplus to what they needed. No one complaining now...

Just based on watching Wolves, but I expect that there is a lot of interchanging amongst the forwards going on in Nuno's tactics.

Yes, but the statement wasn't about whether he's good enough. It was about whether he'll be missed and many on here clearly will. An extremely likeable player who's always fought 100% for the badge. That demands respect imo.
I get that, but for me personally, I only would miss him if he provided us with goals and assists, at the end of the day it isnt a social club and respect is gained through quality on the pitch in my eyes. Yes we've seen his desire on the pitch and ability to spur the team on through his performances, thats all well and good, but when he gets to the box/near it hes just so frustrating. I respect that hes tried his best and loves the club, so in that sense I respect that.

17 league goals, 37 in total. And 47 assists. Averaging above 10 goal contributions per season.
Fair to be opinionated (we all are), but don’t have to get your facts deliberately wrong to support your opinions mate?
In all fairness checked Wikipedia to quickly see how many. For some reason they’re only putting league goals in the stats but at the top. I’ll admit I’m wrong there, but the Lamela stans on here are weirdos for loving this fraud because ‘he’s a great burst of energy from the bench’. Guess we spent £30m for an average sub? £30m for that sick note but god forbid someone criticises him here. Meanwhile someone was calling GLC Giovanni Lo Healtho the other day? Pathetic.

With him and Tomiyasu in the Olympics it at least gives me a reason to watch Spain and Japan.

Oh agreed he gave his all but lets be brutally honest. He outstayed his welcome for several years.

I'm with you there. For footballing reasons, he should have been moved on but he will still be missed by me and many others.

Seems like Paratici doesn't like long transfer threads

(if this happens of course)

That’s a shame, could do with him here ASAP.
He's just 20, we shouldn't put too much expectation to hit the ground running. Let him get some pitch time at the Olympics, what a great experience for him

I think you can still appreciate and respect a player for their time here and still be happy to move on. I always thought Rose deserved appreciation for his service here too. Its just about refreshing the squad now and some players have simply been here too long. I find someone like Gil as a young exciting prospect the ideal replacement for Lamela. It brings our average age back down again for a player who isn't a first team regular. I would keep the experience first teamers and happily replace the experienced squad fillers with youth.

Don't really see why Lamela is getting some stick here. It's not his fault that he's injury prone and at least he gave his all every time he played, which is more than you can say for most.

I do, however, also agree that he simply wasn't good enough. There have always been a few people on here that are adamant he's underrated and should've been a regular starter, but he was so bloody inconsistent. He'd occasionally make a nice through ball or score a worldly, but the majority of the time he gave away silly fouls, made poor decisions and always had a weak shot on him.

He always ran his nuts off, did good defensive work and fully deserves his semi-cult status, but overall he's just a quite good but annoyingly unreliable player who never ever came close to touching the greatness we hoped of him (rabona aside).

I like him but I can't say I'll miss him.

Nah. This guy is a skinny 20 year old who hasn't even featured much for Sevilla. I doubt he will be an automatic starter for a couple of seasons. I reckon we'll persist with Lucas/Bergwijn and bring through Gil slowly.

Seems a lot of money to spend on a player we might not use much then, when apparently we dont have much cash and need to reinforce defence and central midfield.

I guess this is one of those 'now or never' signings, a bit like Modric.

If you see true red hot potential and there's a window in which it's available sometimes you just need to sign the player regardless of whether they are in a priority position. Sometimes this can go too far (e.g. Arsenal signing Auba AND Lacazette for big money) but 20 million quid isnt exactly breaking the bank, and it also gets Lamela off the books.

We also havent tended to make too many signings like this in recent years. Reminds me quite a lot of the Modric and Bale signings of yonder.
