Never heard of the kid but if it is true and he is as good as people are saying and we are told Sevilla were happy with the Kounde / Sanchez reverse deal too even if the player isn't, you have to think maybe the talks between the clubs have been rather amicable.
Makes a change.
The change is called Fabio ;)

Though nothing has come to fruition, as others have stated, the players we're being linked with this year are very left field and exciting. Very unlike previous windows. I'm really liking it.

I wonder how many SC's members' reaction when they saw this new thread was something like "Who da fook is this guy?".
This came out of nowhere! :joyful:
I've been tempted to post that meme a lot recently.

I'm really curious how we will link-up with him. As much i love that we go for a young talent.... i don't see any potential in our first-Xi.

He looked the best on the left side, playing the role of a classical winger. He rareley goes inside, this all favours a defensive Fullback.

But we have Reguilon on his side, an attacking fullback.

Also Son is way stronger on the left side, than on the right side.

Meanwhile if we believe our rumours, we go for a defensive fullback on the right side (Tomiyasu).
So it would make a lot of sense, if we play a asymmetrical 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with Reguilon who is running down the left side like a crazy man. Something like that:

And to all the points i already stated, we also have a very talented player on one of his Positions with Sessegnon.

Don't get me wrong, i like the signing overall, because we replace Lamela with a better winger basically, but at the same time i'm really curious how this all will work out.

I just hope he's young and raw enough that Nuno can make a Traore on the right side out of him.

On the basis of that and who's missing, I guess we play him at CB. I just can't see that working personally. You have to question whether he's the right player

On a more serious note, I would guess that we'll give him a role on the right, but that's based off very little

My only input is I remember seeing him come on as a sub for Sevilla a year or 2 ago and the commentators saying he was highly rated

You’re welcome

I guess that’s the point of having a sporting director means levy can butt out of certain things to do with getting creaks done

Son is 29 years old tbf and Gil is 20, so a year or 2 developing as a sub/rotation player and he could end up slowly coming in. He might not be an impact player. He's also a little small and if it transpires that he needs physical development, these are the couple of years to do it in.

Of course, we'd all be loving it if he was an epic impact player and competition for place really does push some players along to be even better.

In the event that we do play 4-3-3 regularly, I think that line up (plus 1 or 2 decent CBs) is about as good as an 11 as we could field, plus the option of Gil on either wing. Looks like an exciting team.

I do wonder if Nuno will experiment with our formations too, though. Our squad has a lot of potential to play systems with 3atb, or even a 4-4-2 if we play Gil on the left and Son alongside Kane (although this would leave us very light defensively on the left as you mentioned in your post).

So far he has been likened to The Beatles, George Best, Liam Gallagher, Luka Modric, Howard from Big Bang Theory and a young Erik Lamela.

I could be wrong but I don't think we have ever signed a player who has achieved those comparisons.

Very promising player, had a great season on loan at Eibar but probably wouldnt have been a starter this season at Sevilla. Hopefully he can continue his progression and turn into a fantastic winger but a bit worried about coping with the physicality of the PL & fee seems a bit high (for our standards). Read many Sevilla fans quite pleased with the fee as they expect to sign Guedes with that money.

Pretty sure he will end up being coached in to a RWF.

He already played 10 times on the right last season so he can already play there.

With coaching and development I see no reason he couldn't play RWF. He has the speed, agility, dribbling ability and can spot a pass too (1.8 key passes per game last season, 9th out of all La Liga players).

Particularly with 1 striker formations like 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3, it's almost unheard of now to have a wing forward play on their natural side. They are almost always played inverted so that they can seek the goal and open up the pitch more for overlap opportunities etc.

Don't forget Bale was seen as a left winger before he moved inside and eventually to RWF.

I would imagine we will develop Gil as a RWF in a 4-3-3 shape.
