A very good comparison since Kanté was not voted player of the year by the fans either.

He had an incredible season that year.

Anyhow, your comment about the rest being pretenders is pure bollox, that's why i gave you a wtf rating, if that's what irked you.

Sissoko a pretender, what a clueless thing to say.

Bah, he goes on the pitch, dribbles a little bit, plays a few safe passes, maybe executes a successful tackle before full time, and largely tries to not get himself into trouble.

I'm not too upset with a player like Son getting player of the season who could possibly have big teams wanting to turn his head, anything that makes him feel the love is an added bonus where as Sissoko I think will be very content with us regardless.

Fair enough mate, it's all about opinions.

To clarify, I loved some of Son's performances, particularly Chelsea at home, Everton away, Dortmund home, City in the CL at home, and most definitely City away in the CL.

But I went for Sissoko for his high level of performance right through out the season, even though they don't have the same wow factor, I just think his effort and performance levels deserved it most.

But totally understand your opinion ?

Yeah to be honest the poll on here and a lot of feedback on Twitter would suggest that Sissoko has to feel a little disappointed. Would like to see the results of the vote - I suspect it was tight.

Sissoko for me was a season of rags to riches and proving a lot of people (myself included) wrong. Made himself a bit of a cult hero as well. He proved himself indispensible and provided a lot of energy to the midfield.

Does a bit more than that to be fair. A mainstay in our midfield due to his high energetic performances. Could do with adding a little bit of creativity to his game but he has the ability to carry the ball large distances to carry the attack to the opposition.

You can see PSG going in for Sissoko with a ton of money so we shouldn’t take performing players for granted.

Just saying

That I and everyone around me at the ground today looked on in incredulity that someone other than Sissoko won player of the season is something I never thought I’d write.

Love Son. But Sissoko for me all day long.

Is there any way to aggregate the voting percentages in each match ratings thread for the season? (without trawling through each one and making an excel lol)
I had thought of doing that but didn't have the time. I will say that Sissoko would have won by a land slide having won over 75% of the polls. I think I will set it up for next season and will ask the moderators to "stick" it.

Son isn't going anywhere. He loves Spurs and he owes Spurs. We gave him a five year contract when there was a good chance he would spend two of them doing military service. We also let him go to the Asian games and win that gold, whereas Bayer Leverkusen didn't let him go when the rest of the team won a gold back in 2014. It worked out all round thankfully, but Son won't be going anywhere for some time IMO

Son contributed directly to 29 goals this season. And that's with 2 international tournaments disrupting his season. And I think he also had a few game winners.

Sissoko most improved by a mile but Sonny made the biggest difference where it counts the most.
I agree about Son's contribution, but what I and others are saying is that Sissoko with his industry has helped Son's to make this difference that you referred to. Put another way, Son would not have been the success he had been without Sissoko playing the way he had, especially in the absence of Dembele, Winks etc.

Saying that, I will happily change my vote to Son if he scored the winning goal on 1st June! Because this would have put our season on a much higher level of success!!

Player of the Year. Totally subjective, yet people try to quantify their choices.

I picked Sissoko, but Son has been class too as have several other players.

Why are people arguing about this?

To the tune of "ohh Mousa Dembele"...

"Ohh Moussa Sissoko"

Never, ever, have I seen a 180 like that from a spurs player.

Poch's philosophy personified. Belief.

Sissoko. The only player that comes close to him is Sissoko.

I was actually pretty annoyed.

I was also annoyed. Sissoko deserved it.

Son scored incredibly important goals against big teams, that can't be understated, but if he's not scoring Son does nothing really. Sissoko has been our midfield engine room all season. From the first game to the last, when Son has been away on international duty, Sissoko has been here battling away.

So Sissoko is my POTY and that is all that matters to me.

And why not? You say argue, and I say debate and debate is healthy. You do not need to participate, but those who want to will
