Has RVN still got it in him? Didn't he just suffer a really bad injury and he's 33, with huge wages.

I reckon RVN's tranfer fee would be minimal, if not a freebie. So that's just the wages to sort out.

I'm sure RVN on a free with a 2 year contract would be a lot cheaper than £12m Crouch on £80k p/w over 5 years.

Actually what I said earlier was incorrect, he has 47 starts in total according to espn. He has 38 starts in the league (no subs), 9 starts in the cups (1 sub). It says that he has 5 assists, not 8. Bent and Pav both have plenty of subs and less starts, so naturally the figures are more skewed towards them.

ESPN is sometimes wrong though, and personally I find it hard to believe he started every game for Pompey unless he's really injury-proof.

Not sure how people get their judgement on Crouch, as an example he has the same number of England caps as Jermain Defoe and has scored twice as many goals, make of that what you will but surely any negative description is somewhat incorrect.

Each to their own, I suppose, but I think Pav is exactly equal to Bent in terms of being an inventive/creative striker, i.e. that he isn't at all either inventive or creative.

This comparison of Bent and Pav always makes me laugh, forgive me if i missed them but i can't remember many passes inside the full backs, flicks around the corner or back heel passes from Bent :shrug:

where as Bent purely works in the V of his peripheral vision (much as Crouch does)

He's scored over a dozen goals in the top division of a major footballing country not once, but both times he's played in it. I don't think Crouch is shit... Just never going to take us up a level. Negredo MIGHT (but it would certainly be a gamble)

Crouch, as unfashionable as he is, is likely to come in and settle straight away, Negredo is too much of a risk for that sort of money. He's not proven in the slightest.

For the same reasons none of the top 4 have come in for Defoe or Jenas or Woodgate... Crouch is on our level and its very difficult to sign better players, because the top 4 clubs want them. I understand that you want us to sign better players, as we all do. But Crouch is far from a bad player. He'll offer a dimension that we missed last season. I dont think he's any worse than Kanoute and i think he's better than Mido. But because we managed to unearth a great player in Berbatov, some people become blinded by the level of quality a player like Crouch has. The fact is, we were very lucky to have Berbatov and we'll be very lucky to get another player of that calibre. I honestly believe Crouch could be about the best we can hope for. Very good but not great.

Negredo is a very promising player who i rate very highly. I myself would rather we sign him, but Harry clearly doesn't want to take that risk. And i can understand why. We know what we're getting with Crouch and we'll be getting it this season. Negredo, for all his potential, could take a year to settle. Even great players like Drogba have needed a year to settle into the English game. So it makes sense to me to go for players we know what to expect from in England.
