BEN's in Las Vegas at the minute... Alex who's in contact with him has posted this...

"BEN defoe and Huddlestone at the Bellaggio Las Vegas #1

ALEX
BEN defoe and Huddlestone at the Bellaggio Las Vegas

discussing Peter Crouch, Crouch wants to join, Defoe wants him to come.

defoe doesnt see how him and keane can play together.

aparently defoe loves ben. more 'news' if it comes in.

not the most amazing news, but worth mentioning it just for you to all be able to picture defoe and hudds face when they see ben heading their way after they travel half way across the world!"

I've got a little bit of ITK.

My aunt works at Terminal 5 at Heathrow for BA and she spoke to Robbie Williams and Peter Crouch yesterday.

Just knowing him from England games, she asked Crouch who he played for and he said "Portsmouth, at the moment anyway".

Disconosebleed then said this...

Not a great deal to add, but my experience tells me the story about Defoe talking up Crouch holds water, I made a post around a year or 18 months ago after my friend had just installed some internet...stuff in Crouchy's house. He asked him a few questions about his plans etc and he said he liked the idea of playing alongside Defoe as he thought he was the best finisher around. Also said that Torres was a whinging tosser and that while he (Crouch) got on with Benitez he knew that Benitez didn't rate him.

Bit of a tangent, but basically from what I've heard the Crouch rumours stands up. Plus obviously Redknapp rates the two of them having bought them both twice each, and likes the idea of them playing together.

and backed it up with this...

Looks like he's pretty much definitely going to leave, most probably to Portsmouth or Villa. Newcastle have bid for him as well, and Spurs agreed terms with him in January but he didn't fancy his chances of getting in ahead of Berby or Keane. Thinks he is most likely to go to Portsmouth and that's his preferred choice, but nothing concrete has happened yet so all parties are playing it by ear. He apparently likes the idea of playing for Portsmouth to be alongside Defoe, who he apparently wouldn't shut up about. Reckons he's the best finisher he's ever seen.

-Loves it at Liverpool, says the club and everything about it is top notch - just hates not playing regularly and doesn't think that situation will change any time soon. Rates Benitez as a manager and a guy, but doesn't think Benitez will ever see him as anything other than a squad player. Interestingly he says that Torres isn't particularly popular at the club - respected for what he's done this season but apparently he moans whenever things don't go his way and if he disagrees with a decision by Benitez regarding him (subbing or being rested basically) he just ignores everyone for a couple of days and generally comes across like a bit of a baby (Crouch's words).

Also, my mate says that Crouchy is a top bloke and is even more ridiculously tall in the flesh. And also Crouchy said the nachos story isn't true

Good Points:

Very, Very, Very Tall
Clever feet
Holds up play well
Good international scoring record
Good premier league scoring record
Works well with Defoe
'Arry knows him
Gives me the opportunity to change my name to "Crouch Potato"

Bad Points:

Some may consider him an unspectacular signing
Goalscoring record tends to be against poor teams
Not that good in the air for his height
Long ball tends to be employed when he is up front
Looks a bit clumsy

My Verdict

Good signing. Will definitely do a job for us, and he works well with Defoe. Maybe a little unspectacular.

great first post

i would definitely be happy with crouch IF pav was going. i cant see us signing him if pav stays though, trying to keep pav, crouch, keane and defoe all happy without europe would be v v difficult. good player though who causes teams a lot of problems and we know he can play with defoe and him and keane are intelligent enough to play together

Media link?

Sorry SS57... I can't remember seeing any media linking us to Crouchy.

I'll have a look later and add it if I can find any... also, if anyone else has a link, send it to me and I'll add it to the thread.

Cheers

There are players I would put before him, but if we are looking for someone to partner Keane/Defoe, then I would be happy with Crouch.

No, don't think he is good enough for the mighty Spurs, unfortunately. Having said that, we're going to struggle to attract top notch players, so he's probably someone who would jump at the chance of coming to Spurs.

If rumours are true and we are dispensing with Keano :)cry:) and Defoe is seem as 'Arry's son... erm I mean no.1 striker... than I reckon this would be a very good move as they are a very good partnership.

I agree with Dibby. ;-)

I hope this is true.
I'm surprised the media haven't linked us after Peter's comments about Portsmouth.

There are players I'd rather see us sign, but in the end it's all about building an effective team. If we sign Crotch and he forms part of a potent and high scoring front line then I'll be more than happy. If we sign RVN and then struggle to score then I'll be unhappy.

Very - I've been wanting us to sign him for years

If we could keep our current 4, or at a push dump Keane or Pav, we'd have a well balanced strike force.

I want us to keep Pav tho, as it might be he can improve significantly next year.

For me Keane is in decline.

Why would we be getting rid of Keane?

Ridiculous to even think so.

His career would be in tatters all from the decision to leave us in the first place.
