If we don't put the required importance on the CL we'll end up dropping back into the Europa League which is the nightmare scenario - not only to be back in that competition but can you imagine the ridicule from other clubs if we qualified for the CL and were so bad we still ultimately ended up in the EL? Awful.

I was glad to see Poch pick his strongest possible team last night.

I think that ship has long sailed.

An auspicious start dude - a disagree and getting spammed in your first post. Welcome (y)
I was trying to be glib, but I guess it doesn't come across too well in a written format! I've been lurking around here for years and chose my time to strike poorly :)

I do see the OP's point, but I'd like us to give the CL more attention than we gave the Europa league especially after we've tried so hard getting into the comp.

Hopefully, better quality 2nd options give us a chance at top 4 and getting out our group.

I believe the champions league is of "secondary" importance to this year. The league is by far the more important.

Champions league is still important but our league position is more important.

2 main reasons being

1) We cant win the champions league (yet). However it is great experience for our youngish squad.
2) We need to concentrate on getting top 4 in the league again with a lot of sides so much stronger this year. Then we can look at actually being competitive in the champions league next year.

Lastly this is my personal opinion so take how you want. We need to avoid the terrible comp that is the Europa League at all costs.

Give me top 4 in the league this year and a cups run and i would bite your hand off.

Is my opinion too spurs negative?

Edit: I have clarified my point.

Is that you Arsène?

I think we have a strong squad on paper but currently have many players who have not yet had enough of a chance to make a meaningful impact.

Davies, Trippier, Wimmer, Son, Sissoko, Nkoudou and Janssen all need a platform to get some game time.

Our next step to success is getting our players match fit and playing regularly. This works better in meaningful games and thr CL could be key to that.

A good performance and recognition from a CL game can be great for confidence so we have to take it seriously.

But like many others I don't want to prioritise one over the other.

Need to concentrate 100% on both the league and CL.
The big clubs manage this so why cant we?
We can all agree that we can play the kids in the cups(until we reach semi or final...always nice with some silverware).

after 4 games in the league and 1 in the CL it is way too early in the season to prioritize anything.

we have a squad of 22 individuals that won't to play for Spurs whether that be in the league or CL, and we have a manager that has to pick 11 to start and put 7 on the bench, and hopefully realize that this season he will need to rotate a little more.

finishing in the top 4 is very important for the club, but as the past has shown us we can compete without it.

also a question for you.

if you was to prioritize the League over the CL, how would you go about it? or how do you believe Poch should go about it?
To answer your question, i would make sure we can pick our best sides in the premier league. Then we pick whatever side in the champions league that helps us in the next premier league game.

For me that tactic is fine if we have a small squad, we don't.

We have a strong squad and we need to integrate many players into the team. If we simply play a second team then we are sending those players a message that they are not as highly regarded as the other players.

Small changes are needed to keep the team working and the integration period for a new player, like Janssen, will work better if he plays with our normal team rather than over half the team just thrown in at random.

If we want to prioritise the league then if a first team player genuinely needs a rest then we can rest him in the CL game that week rather than the PL game.

But wholesale changes to the team really doesn't help anyone.

so you would risk totally pissing of 4 or more players resting them for CL matches. if they are in need of resting/dropping even they will know why, but to rest them because we have a PL match coming up, I'm not to sure they would be too pleased.

once qualified or totally out of the comp, that's different, but not in the next 3-4 games we can't we need to keep the players happy providing they deserve a place in the team for the next match

Not sure how you got me pissing 3-4 players off or even resting players.

I would prioritise our domestic games (as i have repeatedly said).

To be honest it's not clear what you are suggesting we do. Your post stated:

I don't think it's unnatural to interpret your final sentence as suggesting we rest several players in the CL to make sure everyone is ready for the next Prem game.

now to do the 1st, and prioritize the PL over the CL playing your strongest/best XI in the PL, means rotating players in the CL, and not playing your best team in the CL. to do this combo the player/players dropped would be royally pissed off.

players dream/sign and fought bloody hard to get in the comp last season, do you really think they will be happy to be dropped because we have a game on the Saturday/Sunday

So people are putting words in my mouth...

Explain to us what you actually mean by that statement then.

Simply saying we should prioritise the PL over the CL doesn't really tell us anything. As you don't explain what you mean people are responding by interpeting your words in a fair way then you get all pissy about it.

And now because you aren't mature enough to debate your own thread and posts you come out with yet more neg ratings, good for you.
