Paulinho admits that a lack of game time at Tottenham Hotspur since Tim Sherwood took the managerial reins has left him frustrated.

The Brazil international formed part of a summer influx of big-money acquisitions at White Hart Lane in 2013, with former coach Andre Villas-Boas looking to reshape his squad.

A positive start bode well for the Samba star, but he has fallen out of favour since Spurs opted for a change in the dugout.

Paulinho has now aired his disappointment at having slipped down the pecking order, with there a desire on his part to be a first team regular - especially in World Cup year.

The 25-year-old midfielder has also revealed that it has taken him longer than he had hoped to settle in England and feel completely comfortable in his surroundings.

"I always want to play," Paulinho told Globo Esporte.

"I understand the team rotation because that's how it works here, but I am not feeling well or comfortable. I want to be present, I want to play.

"The language is the most complicated thing as I am lazy about studying. I am learning little by little, but I don't understand everything.

"The football language is easier, that's not a problem on the pitch."

While a lack of competitive action could be a problem heading forward, Paulinho has been offered assurances from within the Brazil set-up that he remains an important part of their plans.

National team coordinator Carlos Alberto Parreira said: "I have talked to Paulinho for two hours. He was a very important player for us at the Confederations Cup, scoring the goal that put us in the final.

"I have asked him to keep playing at the same level as he does for the national team."

I understand he may not have been used effectively by our managers but there's no way he's done enough in a Spurs shirt to warrant starting every game

Absolutely, if anything, we've been left frustrated by him.

Plus it's worrying that he is 'lazy' when it comes to learning the language. IIRC, Sandro attended some English/European culture courses before moving over. So quite the opposite approach.

I would accept him saying that he was finding it hard because it is a complex language to learn, but to admit to being 'lazy' about it is worrying. He lives and plays here, it should be imperative that you take a serious approach to learning the language.

I have also been wondering how an Algerie U21 player gets the nod ahead of a Brazil international. One of my main gripes with Tim. It doesnt make sense.

It does when the Brazilian international contributes very little other than a few decent attacking runs, and the Algerian U21 player (now full international) works a hell of a lot harder, is better defensively, and keeps possession thanks to superior passing and team awareness.

If an undeserving young player constantly gets picked ahead of me every single fucking game, I'd be upset too.

Bentaleb has been pretty damn poor lately. Thats a fact. Paulinho hasnt gotten nearly enough game time to show us anything either under Tim.

We'd never get rakitic (not after this season's performance anyway) but would love him here.

Exactly, couldn't even be arsed to celebrate our winner last week which shows me he really doesn't give a shit about Spurs, just himself and his place in the Brazilian World Cup squad.

Needs the right manager IMO. Scolari obviously knows how to get the best out of him.

He needs to offer a bit more in build up play than he is doing. He looked a world beater at Palace on the first day of the season but hasn't been consistent enough since, some flashes of brilliance at best. We have to give the man time though because Brazil is so different to the football here. Let's see how he gets on next season before we judge him properly.

Certainly doesn't deserve to play 90 minutes week in week out at the moment though.

But isn't that the problem?

Wouldn't a run of games help him?

He'll be off in the summer if we get an offer matching what we bought him for. He was bought under premise of playing for AVB and with Bale, both now gone, now he isn't getting game time. Clearly his heart isn't completely in it at tottenham for some reason or another. He clearly has talent, as shown on huge international stage and no doubt will be an asset for whatever team he plays for but just don't feel it will happen here. Hasn't warranted a starting place since the Adam injury, for what could be a multitude of reasons, and has, IMO, been rightfully displaced by the hard-working and ever improving Bentaleb. 4th choice cm for me ATM, behind Sandro, bentaleb, and siggy.

What position and in what formation does he play for Brazil?

julio cesar
dani alves - thiago silva - david luiz - marcelo
paulinho - luiz gustavo
oscar
hulk -------------------- neymar
fred
a lot think that he performs on another level for brazil but i still don't see it and i haven't seen it from day one. i can pull up a whole bunch of posts from myself which were heavily derided but they're looking all pretty spot on now. i wish he would prove me wrong but he has a blasé attitude and imo a very limited skillset.

Showing what a clueless post this is. You call Paulinho a Brazil international, and refer to Bentaleb as an Algeria U21? He's never played for the u21s, he's a SENIOR international himself.

And more to the point, they play completely different positions and roles.

I'll let you off though, you've waived all sense of rationality and sense, to have a cheap pop at Tim, so I applaud the commitment.
