I have been meaning to write this for a while now. The standard of the officials in the Prem has become appalling. The FA and those in charge of the Premiership need to do something about it. There is too much at stake, both financially and prestige for the standard of officials to be this low.
I believe some of it is due to the pressure that some managers put on them and they are genuinely concerned about the after match wrath, but there is a really strong case now for increased technology and support from the fourth officials. The fourth official has the use of a screen and it would take a few seconds when play has stopped after a tackle for example for them to review it. Both Flamini and Giroud should have been sent off today V Bournemouth.
Every weekend there are serious game changing wrong decisions being made, which costs clubs points and therefore affects them financially. There is enough money in the game to sort this out with increased technology and more intense training for the officals. I also think referees should be made to answer questions about their decisions post matches.
Some people will probably say its a much faster game than it used to be and refs have a really tough job, but I'm sorry there are ways of improving their performances and far too many of them put their egos before the benefit of the game. Clattenberg is probably the best around at the moment, but even he has made some real clangers this season. There are far too many examples of really poor decisions throughout the season to give here and I don't believe in the "it evens its self out during the season" bollocks because it doesn't and can't , because a result from a match can have a knock on affect on following games.
I would love to see the difference between the now and if all decisions were correct/corrected, I suspect the smaller clubs would be in a better position in the league.
