Post on Skyscaper City says the club are purchasing Whitewebs Golf Course next to the Training Ground.

The proposal is on Enfield Council website, attached here.

Basically golf course to be rewilded and turned into a community centre. And a women's training facility is being built along with a facility to train grounds staff.

Sounds like some great proposals. And to think there were a huge amount of fans using us buying this site to bash the owners without knowing the full details.

The plans are nice. You can see why there is little direction on the field though, so much focus on land and planning over the past few years.

Why are we doing this?

Because we need a dedicated training centre for the women's team and junior groups and, being adjacent to the main training centre, this is the ideal location for it.

The women's game is growing rapidly. Spurs were late starters and it's only in the past 5 years or so that we seem to have taken it seriously. Attitudes towards the women's game are changing, and expectations are growing. Spurs have to show that they aren't stuck in the past. What would it say about the club if the mens and boys teams had the benefit of state of the art facilities but the women and girls had to make do with sub par rented facilities elsewhere, as has been the case thus far?

The other park works, for public benefit, are just the (comparatively small) price that Spurs had to pay to secure the site. Akin to planning gain.

In short, this development is actually a good, sensible and forward thinking move by the club.

I would imagine we will fund the whole thing with ‘landscaping’ (lorries dumping rubble on the golf course that will then be top soiled and grassed).
