Commentators in the Sociedad v Valencia game mentioned that we had scouts at the game. Probably there to watch Soldado in particular esp as Antione Griezmann (talented winger we have been linked to )was suspended. Soldado would be one of the best strikers we could buy on our budget. Relief to know that we are looking at strikers.

I bloody watched 20 minutes of that game to try and see what he's like. Thought he'd been subbed off, lol.

Has anyone seen much of Vydra this season? Seems to have torn the Championship a new one and Udinese are a team that make their money finding & selling talent.

Amido Balde, 21, 9 goals in 16 starts. Plays in Portugal top division. Maybe as sub striker would offer something different.

I couldn't disagree more with the OP. I think we'd be bang in the race for any proven strikers that become available. Remy, Benteke, Michu are all realistic targets should they become available. Wether we would be actually interested in any of them is of course another matter. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see one of the three i've mentioned at Spurs next season.

;)

Agree, realistically which other PL clubs are coming in for those 3? Maybe Liverpool will take one if/when Suarez gets sold but after that I can't see any of the other top 6 teams taking an interest. I think it will likely to come down to lack of available options for some of them.

However this all has a very end-of-window feel to it and i'd prefer we get someone in from the off and spend the rest of the window trying to flog Adebayor.

if we fail to get CL I would expect remy for 8 million and carroll for the same fee.

what I would like to see us do for a punt is, if they get promotion to league one give Bradford 1.5 million for nahki wells and loan him back plus loan them kane as well under the proviso they play up front together.

Arsenal, possibly.

Kane has already proven himself in the Championship so loaning him to League One would be pointless and insulting.

Nakhi Wells will be 23 in a month and has never performed at a higher standard than League 2.

We should be going all out for Soldado.

He's perfect in every way for us.

I'll be banging that Benteke drum until 11:59 PM on August 31st, but Imoh Ezekiel is quickly becoming my "New PEA."

Also, Rodrigo Moreno from Benfica. Reminds me a lot of Leandro Damiao but with more pace to his game. Still an unfinished product, but I have a hard time believing we will be landing a finished-product type that isn't name Benteke.

Osvaldo is the one I would be happy with and could see as being the right price - however, it's rare that we look very far abroad, and we don't have a recent history of buying 1, from Serie A or 2, south Americans (even if he is a naturalised Italian), so I very much doubt we're interested in him. We're more likely to look closer to home (e.g. Benteke, who I think we will be priced out of).

Still, I was very impressed with the signing of Vertonghen and particularly Lloris (a player I had dreamed of playing for us but never in a million years thought we would even notice, let alone go and get), so I could be proven wrong here. AVB/Levy's scouts certianly seem to have widened their field of view since Harry left.

It's very hard to know what we'll do. One minute our accounts say that realistically we have very little money, the next AVB and others come out and say we were 'very close' to Moutinho (£20m) or Leandro (£18m).

Personally, I don't actually believe the stories behind us being close to these massive-price players (and I don't want Leandro anyway as I don't think he's good enough) - I think we might make token enquiries and make a last-minute offer of £3.57, a packet of crisps, and a 5p off a litre of fuel when you spend £50 at Tesco's voucher - knowing our bids will be rejected but making it look good publicly.

Wages also come into it - with Ade on 100k and Defoe on 60k a week, another top striker on say 60k minimum eats up a massive chunk of our wage bill on three players.

I do wonder if we might not do much up front at all in the summer, with the ruling classes at the Club (and I include AVB in that) hoping and assuming that there's no way Ade and Defoe could be as bad as they have been this season (or at least since Christmas in Defoe's case).

It's going to be a frankly horrible summer with all this striker bollocks plus the inevitable constant Bale and probably Vertonghen, Lloris and Sandro rumours.

It's going to be another summer of false hopes, I just know it.

I've been thinking the same - without bringing the mood of optimism down, i'll believe it when i see it.

The faintly optimistic part of me does at least say 'SURELY whether we get top four or not, there HAS to be a couple of strikers who would improve our conversion rate...RIGHT??!'

The fact i'm having this convo with myself, leads me to think that it's already too late for me and my sanity.
