Slabs, cores, footprints in concrete. Thanks for the info but I have no idea what you are talking about!

Slab: horizontal mass of cast-in-place concrete; usually a floor.

Core: a large scale vertical support, often comprising lifts, stairwells, service runs and WCs, as well as major vertical structural components that hold up the roof and superstructure. There are 6 cores, the last of which is the reason for the demolition of the NE corner of WHL.

Footprint: fancy word for floor area. In this case, level 6 is smaller than levels 4 & 5. No surprise there, really.

Bit by bit we are learning more and more and by the time this thing is built we'll all be ready to sit our civil engineering exams, how about that!

My friend who works for Spurs has told me Levys making a statement today! Don't know if it's true as wasn't told directly just thought I'd pass it on!

@davidmatzdorf , sorry but I have a question, hope you don't mind!

Accepting that concrete can't be poured below a certain temperature, do you know at what temperature it would, normally, be laid and how long does it take until it is properly cured, even if the temperature did then fall below the limit?

Im going to build my own house with all Ive learnt on this thread.

Seems easy

As you might expect, having done so myself, I frequently get asked "I want to build my own house, what advice can you give me?"

My standard initial reply is "Seek psychiatric advice immediately."

I bet @Ionman34 can answer that better than I can.

The concrete itself has to be 5 degrees minimum to pour and you can pour at 2 degrees if temperature is rising but most firms these days use a higher cut off of 4 or 5 degrees. Curing time completely depends on depth, area, mix etc

I must caveat this with I haven't been on a large project for a couple of years and things tend to be a bit more 'flexible' on smaller projects

Well. if I have learned anything over the years, its that you do not want to build a house out of straw or sticks. Always use bricks.

HTH

Straw bales are a good and not especially unusual eco-material. When I was building mine in 1999/2000, an architect was building a [much larger] eco-house 5 minutes' walk away (even closer to the Emirates than mine) - the bedroom wing of that was built using straw bales. I got to see its construction in detail, because we were using the same contractor, so we were always having to go 'round to each other's building sites.

This is her house, as shown on her own website: http://www.swarch.co.uk/projects/stock-orchard-street/

Must be! All a bit odd they were at Lillywhite house doing stadium launch and we know nothing about it
Wasn't really a stadium launch - journalists were just given the opportunity to do the Virtual Reality thing.
