I don't quite see how Berbatov, who was on for 90 minutes and did nothing, can get a 6, whereas Bent who was hardly on, but scored a perfectly good goal that the officials ruled offside, gets a 5.

Berbs is normally 10 times better than Bent, but not today.

you was assleep man that`s why you didn`t see anything
when Berba play bad he is more quality than most of our players who play good

Sometimes we are so insipid. we gave the ball away needlessly so many times. Wasted some great positions with a poor first or last touch. This was one of those "away" performances that we put in too often. We have to learn to play with the same desire and energy against the ManC's as well as the Chelsea's and PSV's. ManC played most of the game like the away side which saw us have the ball alot but with little threat of penetration (largely due to poor decisions in the final 3rd). Of course the fact that we lack a top drawer creative player in midfield also shows in games like this. Malbranque works his nuts off but is out of position. Lennon was disapointing. Jenas seems to have reverted to the Jenas of Jol. Still busy but less effective, less commanding. Berbatov tried but was poor today. Gave the ball away several times in good positions. Keane was even worse. We need a striker who can play away.

Ratings:

Robinson 6.5 - Did his job pretty much.

Hutton 6.5 - did ok

Woodgate 7 - did his job

Dawson 7 - was on course from a big mark until he completely lost the corner and did hoof aimlessly a couple of times. But did some good stuff too, especially blocks.

Chimbonda 6.5 - did ok and set up goal.

Lennon 6 - bit quiet.

Jenas 6 - another disapointing game from Jenas, Tried hard at times but was not a great game really.

Zokora 5.5 - some sloppy passing, not a great game either.

Malbranque 7 - worked hard.

Berbatov 6 - points for effort. Everything else let him down today.

Keane 5 - points for goal but what else did he do all day long. He needs to control the ball and get his head up more, instead of girly flicks because he fears a tackle coming. Gives possession up easier than any player I have ever known. Points for a well taken goal though.

Huddlestone 6.5 - did OK. Could elaborate but......not by much.

Bent 6 - wrongly chalked off goal. least he isn't scared. Just not very good.

Ohara 6.5 - worked hard when he came on.

Robbo 6-made some decent stops but nothing special and let in 2.

Hutton 7-defensively strong and got forward well

Woodgate 6 solid

Dawson 7 Did well, made many important blocks and tackles, but lost man for goal :(

Chimbonda 5.5 Did ok, nice assist for goal

Lennon 5.5 Made a few decent runs but taken off at h/t

Jenas 5.5 Played slightly out of position but overall was fairly poor

Zokora 5.5 Did ok defensively but gave ball away too often

Malbranque 5 Tracked back well but created near to nothing

Keane 7 Great goal and worked hard/looked dangerous

Berbatov 5 poor

Subs:
Hudddlestone 6 did ok

O'Hara 6 again, did ok

Bent 7 lively and scored a perfectly onside goal

TEAM: 5.5 Good 1st half. Defended well, Midfield was quite poor, strikers were starved of service but did ok, kept the ball well but sometimes in the wrong areas and genereally an average performance could have gone either way, lost concentration 2nd half and lost the midfield battle-dissapointing but did defend well except the goals and had 2 dodgey decesions go against us.

Robinson - 7 - couldn't do much about the goals and caught a few crosses.......scary!!

Hutton - 7 - Played well in the first half, but I thought he faded in the second. Did well going forward and never really troubled at the back.

Dawson - 7.2 - Alongside an experience player, he is is a different player. Blocked several shots, and won most things in the air. Questionably at fault for the second, but in my opinion, my man of the match.

Woodgate - 7.1 - Excellent player and so composed. Never looks ruffled, and just edged out by Dawson for MOM

Chimbonda - 7 - Did well on the left. I thought he got forward well and contained the threat on the left. Not ideal for him to play on the left with only a left foot to stand on, but a better option than anything else available.

Lennon - 5 - Why does he not take on players. So frustrating that he does not utilise the great pace he possesses. Cut inside so many times, and it was often left to Hutton to provide the width on the right.

Jenas - 5 - Poor game. The Jenas, Zokora partnership is still not right, Jenas playing far too deep. Did not look his normal energetic self.

Zokora - 5 - Did alright in the 1st half, but awful in the 2nd. a bystander in the middle.

Malbranque - 5 - I don't know why, but Steeds last handful of performances have been poor. Works hard, but no end product at the moment.

Berbatov - 5 - did not look interested today. Just did not get going.

Keane - 6.5 - great goal. Did not deserve to be subbed, but silly reaction.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Huddlestone - 5 - did not control midfield.

O'Hara - 6 - did what was required.

Bent - 6 - won the ball in the air a lot, scored a goal and tried to get in behind the defence.
100% spot on especially the defence.!

Played well in the first but awful in the second. Hutton played very well, Then Woody, then the two other defenders. Berba had probably his worst game in a Spurs shirt, Jenas and Lennon very poor too. Zoko the best in midfield today, which says a lot (not because he is bad, simply because he wasnt that good. And what the f*ck happened to Keano??!!??

Lol, well Bent put in some effort, and scored a perfectly good goal that got wrongly ruled out. Pop along to dictionary.com if you're unsure of the word effective.

just scoring goal and wrongly ruled out doens't mean he was effective. He didn' created something or being dangerous. people can say there wasn't service but it was the same excuse for hi, why not saying the same Berba and Keane ?

I know Bent is different player than both and doesn't have creativity abilities as he is target man, but if he wants to improve as player, he should do something and reacted as England international or top 4 quality before being sold at the end of season and keep some smiles about his first season.

don't blame us.

while it would be hard for Bent to do good partnership like Berba & Keane, at least .. we want more goals than we he scored until now ( like Defoe when he was bencher ) .. as 3rd striker, it isn't impossible.

Bent, despite having had fragmented appearances and injuries, and unsurprisingly playing generally poorly as a result, has scored 4 goals in the equivalent of just under 9 games. But for a travesty of a linesman's decision, it would have have been 5 in 9 today. That's really rubbish.

Your heart's in the right place, Q8, but I sometimes wonder where your head is.

Robinson-6
Should have come off his line for City's winning goal. Rooted.

Hutton-5
9 million, what a joke his no way better than Chimbonda.

Dawson-6
Okey but not at a level IMO along with Robinson to take us forward-good squad player.

Woodgate-8
World class defender.

Chimbonda-7
Tigerish performance, playing out of position.

Lennon-6
Wasn't given enough of the ball from the central midfielders

Zokora-5
Below average performance, not at the level of his last 5 outings.

Jenas-5
Looked shattered...in need of rest.

Malbranque-6
Is he suppose to be a creative player or a workaholic. Worked hard created F all.

Keane-7
Main threat, silly attitude after being subbed.

Berbatov-4
Everyone wanks on about how great he is, but I've seen alot of poor performance
to go with his killing first touch. This game ranks alongside one of his most dare outings, Lazy, Wasteful, Moaning.

Honestly if we sold him it would bother me.

Subs

Huddlestone-6
Okey

Bent_7
Wrong decision from the linesman, it was a clear goal.

O'hare-5
Not good enough.

What did the rest of the defence do wrong (apart from Dawson for their 2nd?)
I agree, the defence also had to do the work of the midfield in their absence.

I like Zokora but we might as well had played with ten men without him, that was the effect he had. Jenas, is not far behind, either as he was awefull!

Man City were not that good, but we played them without a midfield, so there was no cover for the defence or support for Berb, Keane or Bent in attack.

Guys.

to put it simply.

defence played well.

Central midfield was complete wank, which puts pressure on defence and limits opotunities up front.

Worst game JJ has played for a while. I hope its a blip and hes not back to the "1 good game-3 bad games" JJ of old.
Zokora was his usual self. I will be suprised-and slightly disapointed if he is first choice centre mid next season.

I thought the back four were good today. Seeing as the midfield never really bothered venturing forward, quite suprising how often the back four were left to deal with the City counter attacks by themselves.

So good that we still conceded 2 goals. We must be improving!!

I agree with post earlier in thread. Midfield was wank (and not just centre midfield.

Jenas, had his purple patch of 5 games this season and that's it. Zokora gets slated so much on these boards and i have to ask what the hell Jenas is all about? None of our midfield are top four quality at moment, which is somewhat astounding given our recent performances against Arsenal, Chelseas and Man Utd!

Too much forward momentum is lost because too many times Jenas and co receive the ball, stop, turn and play a pass backwards or sideways. When we do maintain our momentum we look unstoppable.

Jenas was pants yesterday. Didn't look bothered from the word go. Berba has been frustrating lately. Too many flicks etc not coming off, hence loss of more forward momentum. Steed just looks stale.

We done well to win a cup, but if we are honest we need at least three quality midfielders in the summer and a strong centre half and maybe a goalkeeper if we are going to move on up.
