It's most definitely on the scale! Like this woman who doesn't quite get it.

Is it racist because Kung Fu is a catch all for Chinese martial arts and Son is Korean?

Or is it racist because Son is Asian and associating any violent act commited by an Asian with Kung Fu is racist?

If it is the latter I might have been 'abusing' my Japanese wife for many years.

Seriously though, if you guys want to set the bar this low there are very few of you who are not racist and I could pull out a load of stuff on here, said about Levy that would easily meet the threshold for antisemitism.

This isn't to defend Tyler either, I haven't listening to his crap in years because Sky serve up absolute hot turds on everything they broadcast, especially football and F1.

Holy fuck. That is horrifyingly awesome. That poor woman next to her….

This is why David Brent is one of the greatest comedy creations of all time, there are so many people like him!

Isn’t the quote about martial arts? Why have you made it specifically about kung fu?

I thought it was kung fu, if it's martial arts it simply isn't racist. Martial Arts are just codified forms of combat and are obviously global.
I haven’t heard it. The quotes I’ve read suggest he compared Son’s move to martial arts, not kung fu.

Worst thing he said during the game (that i heard) was that at 3-0 the game was finished and that we "weren't getting anything out of it."

Turns out he was right but he couldn't have known that.

If that's the can't actually see how it's racist then. If anything it plays into the biases of those who think it is racist. Obviosuly they're good intentioned but misguided

Never entered my head that that would be racist.
At the time I was thinking "did he really just say that?".

In the same situation, commentators would normally say something about "rugby tackling" or "wrestling" - which is far more akin to Son's action. It's not unreasonable for people to question why he subconsciously chose "martial arts" for Son, when he hadn't for anyone else during a commentary career that has spanned almost half a century. If he had routinely used the same phrase in similar incidents involving non-Asian players, it wouldn't have been contentious...but he hadn't.

@PLTuck makes a valid point that Tyler didn't reference "martial arts" when Jota jumped and kicked Skipp in the head, during the same game. THat was somewhat more akin to "martial arts"...no?

If somebody characterised a tackle I made that way, I would take it as a compliment.

I guess we all have out views. Looking at the source of comments is important as it's not just the comment. Where does it come from? And is that source likely to be part of Ron Atkinsons inner circle!
