Son was forced to come off in the first-half of Tottenham's crucial win at Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night, putting his chances of playing against Liverpool into doubt

Fingers crossed he wasn’t concussed and he was just being a bit of a pussy. I don’t think it looked that bad to be honest and expected him to play on but footballers these days init.

I doubt he'll make Liverpool with medical protocols and stuff. Thought we looked OK when Lucas moved more central though, but we do need some threat from RWB when that happens. Richarlison back would be perfect. In the unlikely event that Conte unleashes Spence, I guess Doherty is our best option. Hope Sonny's OK. Looked out of it.

Fingers crossed both Kulu and Richy will be training next couple of days. Might be enough to manage a half each maybe.???

Surely Perisic is capable and experienced at LWF if Son isn't fit? Unfortunately doesn't have the pace of Son to get in behind Liverpool's high defensive line

That would be fucking amazing. With Kulu not going to the WC I’d like to think he could handle 45 mins but I’m not expecting it. Fingers crossed.

Perfect opportunity for Richarlison at LW if he can play. Even 30 minutes would be great.

Richy coming back would be ideal: set piece threat/shithousing and I'm sure he'd love to score against Liverpool.

I sort of get where you are coming at with regards to players milking limb injuries following tackles but head injuries are a completely different matter

For that reason I’d rather we rested kulu until Xmas. Already had a setback and hamstring injuries have a tendency to reoccur so for the sake of two games rest, get stronger and smash the second half of the season fresh and fit.

Son didn’t look comfortable at the time but anyone who’s taken a hits to the head will know that sometimes they leave you spinning without a concussion so fingers crossed it’s just that that made him unsteady. My initial thought was broken cheekbone based on where the shoulder hit so may be a few weeks and a phantom mask for the WC. Can’t see him playing at the weekend. Really struggle to see where goals come from given our very defensive midfield and missing 3 of our top 4 attackers. Moura looks lost at the moment, I’d be tempted to have sess and perisic on the left against Liverpool with sess trying to break the high line. Not an ideal final ball but probably the best pace we can offer in sons absence

Yeah for sure but as someone who’s been smacked round the head more times than I can count you can also be fine within an hour or 2 with a lot worse collisions than that. Everyone is different though.

One thing I’m positive on, if you asked Son today or tomorrow whether he feels ok to play on Sunday he’d 100% say he feels fine but it will be the medical teams decision.

Did you see the documentary about Steve Thompson (England Rugby player for those who don't know)? Really interesting to learn the latest thinking on concussion and the long term effects of multiple small knocks and lack of time to recover. He's got early onset demetia at 42 and can't remember winning the World Cup.

Not seen the doc but know about it obviously. There’s plenty of other sad cases like Ryan Jones as well. I think sports like Rugby and boxing are a bit different to football though. Some football players can go through a 10 year career and barely get hit on the head once compared to a boxer or rugby player where getting smashed is part of the game.

The thing that came across though was that multiple 'small' knocks (as in scrum engagements and tackles) can have a devastating effect over the course of a career. We've heard similar about footballers and heading the ball thousands of times. It's not just the big impacts that cause the damage, and recovery time is crucial.

Did you see the blood coming out of his left nostril when he was on the ground ?

To be fair, I think Thomson was suffering much more than just small knocks in scrums. He was probably getting sparked out on a weekly basis, this, I imagine, will be the bigger issue. Sure small knocks can’t help but I think this headering a football is dangerous thing is going to far but obviously if the science is solid then we better ban headers pretty quick I suppose.
