Not sure what you mean by not registered in the squad list. They don't take up senior squad spots as you have unlimited U21 spots, but they still need to be registered as a squad member to play (you 100% can't play an unregistered player, that's auto-forfeit the game, point deduction, thrown out of a cup and fined). The cutoff date for squad registration is Wednesday, September 13 so there's still time to register him if he is joining up and not being loaned back

There are exceptions like signing Vorm after injuries to keepers in October 19/20 where you can register later but I don't think "talented youth player" is viewed as an exceptional circumstance. I can't recall anything like that happening but I'm 95% sure he couldn't play if he's not registered in time
How does the registration deadline interact with the timing of the transfer window? Let’s say he comes in before the Sept. 13 deadline, obviously that’s after the window closed, but is the window irrelevant to signing youth players?

You can sign players at any time of the year, like when Wimmer was signed in march but you can't register them to play, that's only after transfer windows ends. It's much more of a squad registration window than a transfer window so if you register them before that deadline they can play. If not, you have to wait until the next transfer window to register them and then they're eligible to play

It's been said youth signings can occur outside of the transfer window. PL requirements state under 21? I believe don't need to be registered in the PL squad so essentially could sign tomorrow and play against Sheffield Utd. However if he's playing first team football at Hajduk then I say let him stay there until atleast January

I’m still not tracking quite how the registration deadline works, given that it doesn’t line up with the close of the transfer window.

It seems clear that any senior player bought after the close of the window cannot be registered until the next window opens, even if the registration deadline has not elapsed. But the question is whether the same would apply to a youth player.

I guess we’ll see in a matter of days.

Under 21 players do not have to be registered.

I mean you could have just googled it. It would have taken about 30 seconds.

I’m perfectly aware that U21 players do not take up a senior place on the squad list. @HarryKane had stated, all of one post earlier in our exchange, “They don't take up senior squad spots as you have unlimited U21 spots, but they still need to be registered as a squad member to play (you 100% can't play an unregistered player, that's auto-forfeit the game, point deduction, thrown out of a cup and fined).” I was responding to that.

I mean you could have just read the thread. It would have taken about 30 seconds.

You can sign any player outside of a transfer window, that's not the problem. The problem is squad registration - if you don't register that player before the registration deadline they are not officially available to play for you.

You can have as many U21 players registered in the squad as you want but that doesn't mean they don't need to be registered, that just means they don't take up one of the 25 senior squad spots (17 non-HG, 8 HG spots). Fielding an unregistered player means a 3 point deduction in the league or kicked out of a cup and fined for doing so

Yep my mistake that 13 September date is for players out of contract, the transfer window close is the "normal" squad registration deadline and the same would paply to youth players. All "transfer windows" are officially called registration periods per Fifa

Seen it commented by Croatians on youtube, that we get him cheaper than the 12 he was priced at due to Perisic going the other way.

Having done a little digging and seeing comments from Croats online they se to be saying this kid has more buzz about him in Croatia than even Gvardiol did and the feeling is he is one of the highest rated young players in Europe. This may be a huge coup for the club.

I'm not sure where people are getting that you don't need to register U21 players, seeing as you need to register them for the PL squads and they provide a list of all of them? I'm almost certain people are confusing "unlimited U21 squad places" with "don't need to be registered"

Each club squad list is below as well as an additional list of each club's registered Under-21 players who are eligible over and above the squad limit of 25 players.

Googled a bit and Chesterfield were fined for fielding an unregistered U21 player who played 39 matches for them (first game at 17). That doesn't look like U21 players don't need to be registered to me?

A product of the club’s academy, Rowley made his first team debut on 25th March 2017 at the age of 17 and nine months.
He played 39 matches for the club while unregistered, including 33 Football League games, three EFL Trophy matches, an FA Cup tie and two games of the current campaign.
“On Monday 12 November, 2018 the Club attended a Football Association Regulatory Hearing and admitted two charges relating to administrative breaches of FA rules in respect of the registration of our player, Joe Rowley,” the statement read.
“Following the hearing the club was fined £5,000.
“These matters have now been finalised with the Football Association.”

If people can find a rule saying you don't need to register U21s and you can field unregistered U21s I'm all ears because in all "official" football matches you can't field unregistered players. Am I going crazy here, since when are you able to skip those rules and have them not apply?

It’s coming from a conflation of registration itself with taking up one of the 25 places in the squad list for senior players.

All summer we were up against the non-HG limit and it was repeatedly said that “Orban wouldn’t need to be registered”, “Sarr and Udogie don’t need to be registered”, etc.

It would have been more precise to say that they don’t count toward the limit, but the imprecision has given people (including myself until you disabused me of the notion) the mistaken impression that U21 players need not be registered, full stop.

Naturally it's the obligatory YT video courtesy of Brazil Scout (and done 8 months ago when he was 15) but hugely impressive with No Significant Weaknesses and likened to Virgil van Dijk and William Saliba.

Isn't @GutBucket our resident expert in Croatian football?

As @HildoSpur alluded to, it would be nice to hear further comparisons to Gvardiol and perhaps Sutalo who we were tenuously linked with as well.
