Very encouraging first PL game against a quality side. Obviously two silly mistakes but so much about his play to give real hope for the future. At least he can head a ball which Sanchez struggles to do effectively.

He was tidy and organized today. Made two mistakes, but wasn’t punished thankfully. Dier also made one or two mistakes as well. Point being, is that he looked liked he belonged.

It was a debut to build on, definitely.

He started the game looking nervous on the ball, but as the game went on, he did a lot of good stuff.

He stepped out and made some good interceptions. Looks like he reads the game well. Once he settles and grows in confidence he could prove to be a great acquisition.

It was a good debut. Some nerves obviously. On one or two occasions, he did really well to get in front of Abraham and clear the ball.

I thought it was a strong debut, and probably a good game for him to come in - I’m guessing he’s played against and knows Abraham from Swansea? So although it was against a top team, it would have been somewhat familiar, to an extent. I was impressed.

Hopefully we can get a couple of years out of Toby to give him enough time to bed and really learn his trade. He's young so he will make some mistakes but I think there is a fine player in there.

Does anyone know when we get to change up our Europa league squad?

After the group stages I think.

Did well for a debut against a top side. Very good in the air and pretty calm on the ball under the circumstances. Made 2 mistakes that Sanchez or Foyth would have been absolutely slaughtered for but got away with both. Can see Sanchez being moved on now unless he can really get some form back.

the good thing is that Chelsea away is almost as tough as it gets in the league. so he has a lot to build on

Shaky first 15 but after that he was solid apart from the Giroud mistake. Debuts don't get much tougher than that so can see him settling as the season goes on.

Defenders tend to be judged by their mistakes - unlike a striker who can miss a load of sitters but still have the chance to put things right by scoring, a defensive player can have a flawless game until one fatal error that gives away a goal and that is what people will talk about..

Yesterday, Rodon got lucky. A clean sheet and a mostly impressive debut is a good foundation to build upon, but ultimately his career will be judged on whether he can iron the mistakes out of his game. Dier and Sanchez both showed similar promise at a young age (Sanchez is only one year older than him) but are still error prone and as such neither are rated as top class CBs. What made the likes of Terry, Van Dijk and Ledley the players they were wasn't just technical skill in timing their tackles, their physical dominance of opponents, or their reading of the game - they were also super sharp mentally and could go entire seasons at a time, let alone single matches, without making even the slightest error. If Giroud scores that chance at the end then the internet would most likely be piling into Rodon as some sort of liability and not being ready for Premier League action. Good thing is - it seems he knows the score all too well from his interview and knows what he has to do - so I am looking forward to his next step.

On another note - am I the only one to find it a bit weird seeing a centre-back wearing GInola and Modric's old number 14 shirt? Can't recall anyone wearing it since Modric left but the shirt had a bit of sentimentality for me with two of my all time faves wearing it, some big shoes to fill here!

He made two big mistakes today. Both could have resulted in a chelsea goal. Other than that I think he did very well.
If he learns to avoid stupid mistakes he can become a very good player for us. (thats why we dont trust sanchez right?...keeps making silly errors)

We don't trust Sanchez as he loses his head after he made the errors. All defenders make errors even the mighty Virgil but its how they maintain their composure afterwards that is the important thing. When Sanchez makes one you can see that all the confidence drains from his game and he looks lost....hopefully something he can sort out with a short break from the high pressure games.

When he was first to be interviewed after the game I thought it was because Sky gave him MOTM, but obviously not. Who did they give it to?

It was a really solid debut imo, he didn’t make any mistakes that we haven’t seen Toby, Jan, Dier, or Sanchez make over the years. He’s also said he will learn from them which is a great attitude to have. I’m very confident this lad will prove himself big time over the next few weeks.

He actually said that first before he’d said anything.

haha

It's like the Harry Kane every answer in one to everything.

Harry, good point at the Bridge? H: Yeah no definitely.

Harry, disappointed to lose at home to Everton? H: Yeah no definitely.

Harry, great win 6-1 at United? H: Yeah no definitely.
