Anyone know why RB are looking to install release clauses on players for next summer in particular? Doesnt make sense when players like Gvardiol will still have 3 years left.

It'll keep top talent joining if they know they aren't necessarily going to hold them for ransom.

I guess it allows them to budget their spending as well. They've built a model where they buy young talent cheap and sell high. Players see them as a perfect club to join for career progression so they get their pick of the best talents. Similar to Dortmund but they are able to use Salzburg to pick players up even earlier.

He'll be off to either Madrid, Chelsea, City, PSG, etc... next season if there's a release clause.

Just like Nkunku.

I mean I’d be more than happy for this, Sanchez has done a job but he is not at the level we require to kick on.
I really love Sanchez and think he has done well for us despite a lot not believing that. But I agree he going would be more beneficial for us moving on and getting more competitive ( I refuse to use the term next level!)

If we carry on our upwards trajectory and change in recruitment philosophy continues then no reason we aren't routinely included in this elite group who are always touted for the top talents.

Agreed.

But it's going to take at least a couple of seasons.

We're still a level below the super clubs in that regard.

Could explain why we might decide to go for Bremer and Lenglet if there's a release clause next summer.

Will be bigger fish than us in that market unfortunately. I think RB almost do that on purpose to show young stars they are the ideal pathway to elite clubs.

You have to respect their approach, it sucks for us but it's a level of self awareness that is allowing them to inch themselves ever further forward.

This has never been on if you ask me. All media led. We’d have known for ages that he has no interest in coming and they have no interest in selling.

But then why would they turn down say £60m this year, if there is a £43m release clause next year? They’d effectively be paying a £17m loan fee for a year of football.

Well I'm just talking about having a system of release clauses and having that rapport with young talent that makes the talent feel like they're the perfect stepping stone. I don't know the financial benefit/disadvantage of not selling this summer compared to next though.
