The crowd did. Perhaps mocked is incorrect, but certainly undermined.

I wasn't there so I can't really say for sure, but what from what I've read I don't see a lot wrong with it. It's going to result in one of two things, either Kaboul is going to realise that he's no longer top dog around here and can't keep getting away with lazy half-arsed performances, or he's going to feel like he's not wanted and want out meaning hopefully we can get some new in.

During the first goal he was inexplicably out of position, and if that was a regular occurrence during the game then Vertonghen had every right to let him know he's not happy, and why shouldn't the crowd back the player who's actually putting some effort in and showing a bit of desire for the cause? :)

Perhaps you're right & there's naught in it. Just don't like the idea that supporters 'take a side' against a team captain.

When they were arguing the fans started signing "super, super Jan". Which was then followed by "Kaboul is on fire".
Pfft. Barely constitutes an insult. You wouldn't get Ledley getting negative chants because he conducted himself excellently both on and off the pitch. As captain you can't have one or the other, you need to be a role model all round.

If we fuck up in our jobs we are told.

I don't like the whole tone of that article to be honest. Weirdly hateful/aggressive and seemingly pleased to see Kaboul falling apart based on rumours of backroom problems which no-one knows the truth about.
The stuff he writes is meh tbh, and I also think he offers the fighting cock podcast literally nothing.

Which one is he, the 'not the host' one or the one who hardly talks?

I've only noticed him this season, defo not the one hardly talks, as he always talks, mainly shit IMO.
He's on it almost every other week.

Oh for those halcyon days when we all couldn't wait for Younes to get fit again to line up alongside Jan - seemed like a match made in heaven.

His careers disintegrated since his long term injury, which he got when he was on his best form. Just like Sandro, it's quite sad really.

This.

Back in 11-12 he was our player of the season and the long layoff has ruined him. He's 50% of the player he was that back then.

It's a shame, but he's nowhere near good enough for us now. It's painful to watch and he needs to accept that he would be better off finding a club in a less demanding league.

It's hard for a pro athlete to admit that his best days are behind him. IMO that's what will be causing these arguments he has been involved in this season. He's struggling to face up to it.

Regarding the captain thing, I think Poch simply saw him as a well respected character when he appointed him after not long in the job.

Also, not being English and not having this obsession we seem to have with the captain figurehead (created by chest-beating icons of the role like Roy Keane) he probably just thought 'he's playing a bit shit, someone else can be the captain'.

Poch is all about the team. He probably thinks having one player they all look to for inspiration is a dangerous notion, because they are all responsible for ensuring they do their job.

I completely agree with that.

I didn't see it so can't judge, but what I have noticed is Jan looking much happier, celebrating more and playing better ever since Kaboul was dropped from the team. Coincidence? I doubt it, I said this to my mrs only last week, I said I reckon he just hates Kaboul and can't stand playing alongside him. Add in the Kane plus squad vs Kaboul, ade and capoue rumours then we have a bit more substance to this. Gut feel is that I'm on team Jan.

I'm not going to jump on the anti Kaboul bandwagon. Yes, he's been very poor this season, most probably down to his injuries having finally taken their toll rather than anything else, but in the past he has been a giant at points and shown everything we've wanted in a centre back. Not good enough anymore but at one point he looked like the business. I for one won't forget how I and the rest of the stadium cheered for him (and Sandro) when he came on in our final pre season friendly at home in summer 2013. Player's don't develop that kind of affinity with fans for no reason, especially not with our miserable bunch of fans.

It's time for him to move on. He's clearly not good enough and doesn't look likely to regain any form. However, I'm not going to turn on a player and start slagging him off when he's genuinely done so much for us in the past just because of some terrible form and ITK murmurings which, though well intentioned, are far from conclusive. Why? Because I'm not fickle and I'm not a hypocrite.

So, monsieur Kaboul, thank you for some great memories. I'm always going to remember the screamer to level v Villa on our 125th anniversary, the rampaging run and cross to put us into the Champions League and many simply heroic and imperious performances.

I love ledley but getting my carried into a cab once a week isn't being the ultimate role model imho

I think it was just nice to see Vertonghen give a shit. He's got a pretty set expression, he's not prone to outbursts of... well, many emotions, let alone that sort of angry thing he had going on. Perhaps Poch has also talked him around to his vision of the future at the Lane, perhaps he is starting to believe Mauri might be onto something.

Fingers crossed, he's been performing much better than he was a few months back.
