I hate Maddison with a passion and think he’s overrated too so not a fan of this move personally. Accept I’ll probably be in the minority though.

I’m not actually that fussed about specifically signing a playmaker as I think Deki could play that CAM role in a 352 if we wanted to switch to that shape if needed.

3-4-3 clearly seems to be Conte’s preferred formation with us, so I’d actually like us to go for Moussa Diaby instead. He can play RWF or LWF, very productive and very quick and tricky.

Would mean we have Son, Richarlison, Kulusevski, Diaby and Lucas as WF options with Richy also capable of playing up
Agree 100 percent.

I don't particularly want him, too much baggage. Definitely think we have better options if we're splashing £50m+.
You obviously know those options but I certainly agree that if we are spending huge money we should bring in an elite player.

Doesn’t surprise me, he’s one of their very best players, he’s homegrown, he probably had 3-4 years left on his deal at that point mabye 23 yrs old so tons of potential and they were riding a wave under Rodgers so absolutely no need to sell.

Hopefully now maybe they have some FFP issues or just because they’re clearly going to struggle to break into the top 6 and with 2 years left on his deal they’re going to be more open to deal at a more reasonable figure and Maddison himself probably would jump at the chance to move to a CL club managed by conte and building a squad with a very good chance of competing for silverware.
Trix was replying to someone on SMS not Maddison.

I'd hazard a guess and say it's his set piece play that is making him the preferred candidate for us along with the fact that Winks is being coveted by them.

Not many other quality playmakers out there who can take a mean freekick that are attainable at a reasonable fee.

Popped into Leicester for fun - got to say thats one sad little place now - Basically, Leicester owners aren't investing; Seems they have to sell to buy. But most of their squad have contracts expiring in 1 or 2 years. And the one they want to sell, aren't any takers. They are all just waiting for someone to bid for Tielemens.

I like Maddison - but not sure, he would be ok to join us for, what it could be squad role. Maddison is their crown jewel - I am sure, they will place high value on him & negotiate hard. I would expect them to place similar valuation to Richarlison. If thats the case, I doubt if we will go for it. Only chance this could happen is player+ cash.

I am pessimistic on this one.

Would be massive fan backlash if they sold him that's why I think they want a huge fee

Well, if Herc's itk about them being keen on Winks is accurate... Could be a goer.

Completely get why you’re saying this but a few counter points:
• Conte achieved 90+ points with Chelsea to win the league
•Liverpool have actually been proof that you don’t need to spend big in every position to beat city you just need players with the right quality and characteristics which suit the way the manager wants to play.
•We beat City twice last season and drew twice with Liverpool both times having chances to beat them… they’re not quite as unbeatable as people think and with the quality and depth of the league improving I don’t believe they will get quite such high points totals next season onwards.

Spence, Maddison and another top CB and Conte will have all the tools he needs to get us winning many many games.

This squad would be absolutely top top class and importantly it will have the characteristics Conte wants to play the formation and style he wants to play.

Lloris
Forster

Doherty/Emerson
Spence

Romero
Sanchez

Dier
P.Torres etc

Lenglet
B.Davies

Perisic
Sessengon

Bissouma
PEH

Bentancur
Skipp

Kulu
Lucas

Kane
Richarlison

Son
Maddison

Aside from possibly RWB I see pretty much no weaknesses there just an absolute ton of quality.
In theory I agree with you, but signing 7/8 players in summer and then expecting them all to hit the ground running is optimistic.

The signings we have brought in are more likely to take less time to settle (mainly experienced players), but also will take time to adapt to the Conte system.

Also when Chelsea won the league they didn't have the competition that we have.

I am still looking forward to what I think will be our best season in (my) living memory, but I just can't see us winning the title.

Hope I'm wrong

We need at least one significant sale to be able to afford a good CB and Maddison I think. But bringing in JM and Spence might allow us to move on Rodon or Tanganga?

I work near Leicester and am surrounded by Leicester fans. They’ve accepted he’s going but they are convinced going to us is almost a backwards step ?
Yep, they genuinely do think they are a bigger club than Spurs.
One of the guys makes me laugh though as he calls Maddison the “show pony” and complains that he rarely ventures outside the centre circle. So yeah, this one doesn’t exactly get me going but would be a bit of a statement signing at least.

I think there is a bit of confusion here. I'm not talking about Madison. I was replying to a post I thought was referencing SMS.

Oh my bad.

If Leicester will sell Maddison for 30m+Winks then get it done imo

When we put the feelers out a good while back they wanted north of 80 mil to even consider it.
I think Lazio may be in a tight spot with SMS end of next season as he currently has 2 years left on his existing deal and he rejected their offer of a 1 year extension to 2025

I'd prefer SMS of the two but Maddison is a great buy and I'd be delighted to add him as well as all the others. SMS seems off the table really.

Teams can still get decent fees for players with a year left these days.

Plenty of examples of it. Below market value but they'd probably still get £35-40m next summer if a few clubs become interested. They might prefer another year of him and a shot at CL over an extra £10-20m now.
