Maddison would be held in higher regard in here if he'd said something nice about Spurs at least once in his life but there is absolutely no doubt he's a fine player and at 25 the perfect age profile.
It would be a terrific deal for us if we pull it off so I'm going to put on my positive hat but only at a jaunty angle.

I hate Maddison with a passion and think he’s overrated too so not a fan of this move personally. Accept I’ll probably be in the minority though.

I’m not actually that fussed about specifically signing a playmaker as I think Deki could play that CAM role in a 352 if we wanted to switch to that shape if needed.

3-4-3 clearly seems to be Conte’s preferred formation with us, so I’d actually like us to go for Moussa Diaby instead. He can play RWF or LWF, very productive and very quick and tricky.

Would mean we have Son, Richarlison, Kulusevski, Diaby and Lucas as WF options with Richy also capable of playing up top.

Genuinely, you think he's overrated whilst knotching up 30 goal contributions last season?

Not sure if I’m just not close enough to his career so far… but… doesn’t he have a patchy injury record for someone relatively young and has missed decent chunks of recent seasons?

Here’s a thought. We’ve been told all along the transfer plan this summer is fluid. Eg if we couldn’t get Spence we’d look for a non HG RWB and HG AM. Wonder if the lack of available elite CB’s this summer has seen a shift in budget so that Maddison as the AM option is now viable? Maybe go for a lower value CB with potential?

Funny I was thinking the opposite! Maybe Bastoni is back on the cards? If we got Maddison and Spence for 55M, adding the out goings fees would probably still leave us with with a sizable sum to spend

I'd agree we'd be in a much better position to challenge and closer.

But to challenge city and Liverpool would be a step too far.

They both got 90 points+ last season, that is ridiculous. With city, they are pretty much world class in every position (and in reserve in some cases). One of them could have an 'off' season but I can't see both of them having it.

We'll be challenging with Chelsea for third next season imo. Signing maddison and a top class CB would give us the edge, but again if they sign koulibally, Lewandowski, sterling, de ligt (that quality of player) it'll be bloody tough to even get ahead of them.
Completely get why you’re saying this but a few counter points:
• Conte achieved 90+ points with Chelsea to win the league
•Liverpool have actually been proof that you don’t need to spend big in every position to beat city you just need players with the right quality and characteristics which suit the way the manager wants to play.
•We beat City twice last season and drew twice with Liverpool both times having chances to beat them… they’re not quite as unbeatable as people think and with the quality and depth of the league improving I don’t believe they will get quite such high points totals next season onwards.

Spence, Maddison and another top CB and Conte will have all the tools he needs to get us winning many many games.

This squad would be absolutely top top class and importantly it will have the characteristics Conte wants to play the formation and style he wants to play.

Lloris
Forster

Doherty/Emerson
Spence

Romero
Sanchez

Dier
P.Torres etc

Lenglet
B.Davies

Perisic
Sessengon

Bissouma
PEH

Bentancur
Skipp

Kulu
Lucas

Kane
Richarlison

Son
Maddison

Aside from possibly RWB I see pretty much no weaknesses there just an absolute ton of quality.

When we put the feelers out a good while back they wanted north of 80 mil to consider it.

Doesn't surprise me.

Perhaps things have changed and they've come down considerably on that fee.

Although it would surely take some shift in their personal circumstances for that to happen.

Yeah something about his game I just don’t like. I acknowledge the fact my hatred for him, his scummy tweets and being a scum fan may create some level of bias against him though, lol

Mate I thought he was a tool as well lol...but there's no denying his creative and goal scoring output.

It's bloody impressive.

Doesn’t surprise me, he’s one of their very best players, he’s homegrown, he probably had 3-4 years left on his deal at that point mabye 23 yrs old so tons of potential and they were riding a wave under Rodgers so absolutely no need to sell.

Hopefully now maybe they have some FFP issues or just because they’re clearly going to struggle to break into the top 6 and with 2 years left on his deal they’re going to be more open to deal at a more reasonable figure and Maddison himself probably would jump at the chance to move to a CL club managed by conte and building a squad with a very good chance of competing for silverware.

Was just about to ask what sort of fee would be considered here. If we're saying it's in the 80 area then I'm really not sure how this can happen.

They have to tread quite carefully though. With a year left he's worth £40m at the absolute max.

However, I do think Leicester will fancy their chances at doing well in the league this year. They and Newcastle are probably the two best sides with no European football, which could be a huge advantage next season.

£65m say and i'm giving that bid very strong consideration though if i'm Leicester. I even said last summer if Son wasn't going to sign a new deal with us that i'd have taken an £80-90m offer for him. It's the optimal time to sell if there's no interest from the player in committing.

I think there is a bit of confusion here. I'm not talking about Madison. I was replying to a post I thought was referencing SMS.

My main concern is he doesn't defend/press really at all. No idea if that's coaching or system but you gotta put a lot of eggs in the Conte will make him defend/press in a way he's never shown before.
This is my concern.

He's not a relentless presser and he often drifts out of games. I also don't think he's particularly creative as some think so.

He scores plenty of goals and has a good knack of popping up which is very valuable.

But if we have to pay 50m or more I would want someone who is top elite quality and makes a difference. Maddison isn't in that bracket.
