Here’s a thought. We’ve been told all along the transfer plan this summer is fluid. Eg if we couldn’t get Spence we’d look for a non HG RWB and HG AM. Wonder if the lack of available elite CB’s this summer has seen a shift in budget so that Maddison as the AM option is now viable? Maybe go for a lower value CB with potential?
In Alasdair golds video he hinted at this also, would say it was more putting 2 and 2 together than actual info.
Also there’s Paul Okeefe who has said similar
Edit- not necessarily Maddison but an AM could be the big buy

We’ve been told he’s 100m
Perhaps, but like Maddison he has 2 years left on his contract so this is the last year to extract decent value. For a non-CL club they will have to consider anything above £50m. The rumoured asking price in the press this summer is nowhere near £100m.

Not so sure we go for the HG rwb so that Conte can get his top target elsewhere just to get a HG midfielder. I’ll stop derailing the thread but hopefully he has his own one soon or we manage to take Maddison. Both would be top signings just have a feeling it’ll be SMS we go for.

His stats speak for themself he could start for most of the top sides if there was any possibility of signing him we should get him. I think he would push to start. Also with him and a top CB I think we have a genuine chance to push pool/city rather than just an outside chance with where we are at the moment this summer.
I'd agree we'd be in a much better position to challenge and closer.

But to challenge city and Liverpool would be a step too far.

They both got 90 points+ last season, that is ridiculous. With city, they are pretty much world class in every position (and in reserve in some cases). One of them could have an 'off' season but I can't see both of them having it.

We'll be challenging with Chelsea for third next season imo. Signing maddison and a top class CB would give us the edge, but again if they sign koulibally, Lewandowski, sterling, de ligt (that quality of player) it'll be bloody tough to even get ahead of them.

I still find it a madness that Dier despite 45 senior England caps doest lose a foreign player tag, Davies counts as foreign yet Rodon doesn't cos' Swansea innit or some other FA nonsense!

You can't lose a non home grown tag.
It's about where you came through as a youngster.

Davies, Rodon and Doherty all have the same issue being home grown in the PL, but not locally trained for European competitions

Yeah but @Trix and @Hercules both said the chairman is nuts and won’t sell for anything less that an absolutely huge fee.

I have been banging the Maddison drum all summer.

Would absolutely love this. Reasonably versatile, scores goals, great at set pieces, good age.

I’m still dubious as I feel it would be a really difficult deal and would have thought we’d be looking at £60M-£70M, but if they genuinely have interest in Winks and we can make this happen, we absolutely should imo

JM would be a fantastic signing. Great player and exactly what out team needs. The attacking potential would be superb.

City/Pool/Chelsea will always play to reach the CL final if we prioritise the league we could have a good chance but depending who else comes in this summer

Think we're 3 short to have enough quality/depth but probably need to focus just on the league and I would be more than happy to just go for the league

I hate Maddison with a passion and think he’s overrated too so not a fan of this move personally. Accept I’ll probably be in the minority though.

I’m not actually that fussed about specifically signing a playmaker as I think Deki could play that CAM role in a 352 if we wanted to switch to that shape if needed.

3-4-3 clearly seems to be Conte’s preferred formation with us, so I’d actually like us to go for Moussa Diaby instead. He can play RWF or LWF, very productive and very quick and tricky.

Would mean we have Son, Richarlison, Kulusevski, Diaby and Lucas as WF options with Richy also capable of playing up top.
