What's new

Is a back up/rotation striker now our only real priority for January?

I think Berahino is a no goer, his price is going up and with the kind of attitude he supposedly has it's potentially a very risky signing.

He only has 18 months left on his contract, if he doesn't sign a new one they have little option but to sell in the summer

I'd be surprised if we are not back in for him in January, very surprised.

Me too I imagine WBA would have given berahino assurances that in jan/summer that he would be off if the deal is right for them hence berahino change in stance regarding the not playing under the chairman tweets

The way Poch has got us playing I now totally understand why he wants Berahino so much.

We heard a lot last season about the hard work to win the ball and play quick, direct, forward passes to our front men. This season, with the players we now have, it is clear he has got this working and we are now creating more goalscoring opportunities as a result.

Watching Berahino play and the runs he makes off the shoulder of the last man I can totally understand why Poch thinks he is the perfect striker to help us convert more of those direct, forward, springing attacks.

I say we make peace with Peace and get the guy Poch wants

My priority would be to sell Fazio and get Veljkovic signed on for a contract extension. Between him and Dier we'd have the DM and CB roles covered.

With Son, Lamela and N'jie I'm 50/50 on the need for a forward

That doesn't mean that they will sell to us though, we might have pissed Peace off to the extent where he will sell to anybody except us.

True, it all depends on who else comes in for him and how much he wants to play for us

Yeah that's a point, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Utd, Liverpool have all been linked with him in the past. I think our chances are slim, hopefully we have another target lined up, Tomas Werner was strongly linked.

Can't see any of those clubs coming in for him tbh

I would love to get a Davids-esque central midfielder, someone will a lot of experience, who will provide some leadership in the centre of the park.
Also would like a striker, preferably with premiership experience, someone that can just slot in and help relieve the pressure from kane.

Definitely need the striker imo - we have Kane with Son and N'Jie as alternate options, nut as we've just seen, with Son injured we look very thin up top

I'd like to think we have lined up multiple options to go for, the story that we were so sure of Berahino we didn't have an alternative in the last week of the TW is not one we should repeat

Problem of course is that the field will be smaller than in the summer - as an example one possible target could have been Breel-Donald Embolo of Basle but they are in EL, so think he would not be eligible to play in EL for us if he joined in January. Of course we could take the view that for the (say) 2-6 games we might play in EL in the 2nd half of the season, it would make sense to get him on board at a sensible price simply to back up out PL challenge......but would we ?

Either way I would hope we were already at work discretely sounding out player agents as to who had the desire to come to Spurs and whether a deal is realistic.

Someone like Ivica Olic at Hamburg can be a stop gap option as a back up striker. Lots of experience at top levels, still hard working and available for pretty much nothing. Could teach a thing or two to our young forwards.
