What's new

Is a back up/rotation striker now our only real priority for January?

Someone like Ivica Olic at Hamburg can be a stop gap option as a back up striker. Lots of experience at top levels, still hard working and available for pretty much nothing. Could teach a thing or two to our young forwards.
Now that definitely won't happen.

But who's in charge then, and who's in charge now?

I can't blame Levy for not throwing large sums of money into backing a manager, who was telling all who would listen he wanted another job.

Breel Embolo.

Should have signed him in the summer.

Affordable and getting better and better.

I don't think he was as affordable as you think.... Like Martial the whole of Europe have known about these players since they were kids, he could be another £25+ teenager

If we want a striker who can help us move forward that IS the amount we would have to spend. There are no bargains at the level we're aiming at...

A striker is just a no brainer as our biggest priority. Someone to take the pressure of Kane, put a bit of pressure on him as well.

Doesn't have to be a world beater, just someone young and hungry... Or if we can't get that just anyone.

Yep, I get that and I think we would fork out that amount...

But... Embolo seems rated... If Man U are willing to spend nearly 60 million on Martial then i imagine (yep, guesswork not knowledge) that Embolo will be waiting for a big CL club to offer him the world.

Hope Im wrong but he seems very rated across Europe.

I think we'll have another pop at Bera and maybe Werner as a backup?

We also need to sign Messi* (with an afro) & (the new) Iniesta** as both can sign contracts from December. Something worth keeping an eye on amongst the clamour for 1st team signings.

*Marcus Edwards
** Moussa Yahaya

While I'm not saying that we shouldn't be looking, given that it can take a while for any player to get up and running, we should at least be trying to play with Son, Clinton or Chadli at CF for the last 15 mins of games or indeed cup games.

If we are going to bring anybody in then they're going to need prem experience. Another bid for Bera and leak it to the press. Unlikely to get him as it's become at point of principle for that twerp chairman. Charlie Austin...

...won't happen, if we wanted to get him we could've done with ease.

Collomosse says we want to sign Boufal in January.

Some background:

He's not a striker
French reports have said we bid for him last Summer
Apparently we've been watching him for ages and Rob Mackenzie seems to rally like him.
He looks like he's being very productive for Lille this season, scoring regularly. He seems like the X-factor player who can beat defenders that we still really need.

Yes we obviously don't want him. His price will be even lower in Jan as his contract is running down.

As I say I'd like us to explore using the other players before we buy

Tottenham keeping tabs on Gent striker Laurent Depoitre
Spurs continue to search for a new striker ahead of the January transfer window, with Saido Berahino still a target

Tottenham Hotspur have been watching Gent star Laurent Depoitre as the club continues to search for a new striker ahead of the January transfer window.

Spurs are likely to make a renewed bid for West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino after failing to land him in the summer, but are also lining up alternative targets.

Among the list of alternatives is Depoitre, who won his first call-up to the Belgium national squad for the forthcoming games against Andorra and Israel.

Depoitre’s style has been compared to that of Christian Benteke in his homeland and six goals, and impressive performances in the Champions League, already this season have alerted numerous scouts.

Tottenham’s interest dates back to last season as the club have been represented at Gent games since the end of March, with Belgian scout Bjorn Moons and chairman Daniel Levy’s trusted scout Ian Broomfield both making regular visits.

A relatively late developer, Depoitre turns 27 before the January transfer window opens which makes him older than Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s usual targets.

But Spurs are in need of an out-and-out striker to share the load with Harry Kane and may not be able to be quite so picky if they want to bolster their squad in the New Year.

Gent have insisted Depoitre is not for sale, but the Belgian club may find it difficult to turn down a bid of around £7million – particularly if they fail to make it past the group stage of the Champions League.

Former Gent goalkeeper Fred Herpoel confirmed Tottenham’s interest in Depoitre by saying: “Depoitre, I think he will soon leave Gent. I do not know if it will be for January, but in any case I think he will go to England at Tottenham. He has no offer, but I know that Tottenham are closely following him.”

Tottenham have signed several Belgium players in recent years with Toby Alderweireld this summer joining Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli and Mousa Dembele in Pochettinho’s squad.
