Some of the utter drivel I've been reading on here, Spurs Community, regarding AVB is gobsmacking. I barely ever post on here anymore as the mass hysteria to us not winning 5-0 every game is cringeworthy and infuriates me. Hell it's not like AVB is trying to incorporate 7 new players into our first team squad and 2 youth players who have been promoted. Add to that we lost our talisman from last season but no that's not a valid enough reason for members of SC.

Ffs get behind the manager and for once let him see his work through.....

There is no Anti-AVB talk, all we want is AVB with balls and to make the changes required to drive us forward and not work out of fear of losing.

I can handle a loss if our players can walk off that pitch with their heads held high.

So who do I want.... AVB with balls, is my answer.

I think AVB may be a little more qualified than the average footie fan as to what changes to make and when. :)

This season? What the whole season?

We went so far under Jol, further than we've ever been before under Harry and now we're clearly building something special under AVB. If just for a change, we actually backed the man in charge to stay and do the job, if we just for a change accepted that it's a process that is going to take time to achieve then, THEN we might actually accomplish something.

After such a big turnover of players in the summer I think we're not doing too badly at all. Yes we could be more 'free flowing' or the style could be a bit more pleasing on the eye, but that'll come eventually. I think that slowly but surely, the whole aura around (or perception of) the club is improving. There will still be setbacks and we need to accept that.

After 20 fucking years of chopping and changing it's about time we actually stuck by a manager for an extended period of time instead of this eternal search for the man who will magically produce the formula we're looking for at the drop of a hat.

I'm in a rush in and out of the office at the moment so this is hurried, but i'll be back later to throw in a mum joke or reference to dogging.

I do not know who this man is, but he speaks sense.

stop joking and think serious about who could really replace AVB. I think that Laudrup will not achieve Swansea goals this season and he might be the next target (of course, only if AVB fails)
Why would we want someone who cant achieve Swanseas goals let along ours?

Laudrup is a possibility if AVB is serious about retirement in a few yrs. Laudrup is a decent coach with a lot of upside. Martinez has impressed me so far at Everton tbh. Thought they'd struggle massively when Moyes departed. Then there's Pochettino. Hopefully this decision won't be had for a while yet so we'll be able to see which promising younger manager/coach has proven himself by then and I hope we're in a position where any of them would jump at the chance to coach us.

Aye. I've seen a few of his posts before. Bit of a bellend but occasionally gets it spot on. Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut I suppose.

I would suggest that Swansea's 'goals' are pretty much to stay in and then establish themselves in the PL. I'd say he's exceeded those targets by a country mile. Having said that, after today's result, if SwanseaCommunity is anything like this place, a baying mob is currently hotfooting its way to Laudrups house, complete with a rail, a barrel of tar and a sack of feathers.

have I stumbled upon a fickle thread!!.. on here... nooooo!!
Aye. In fairness the OP was bemoaning the slow but sure building of anti-AVB undercurrent a bold select few are starting to inject into the otherwise reasonable discussions/criticisms/observations.

We really had achieved all we could under Jol and then Redc*** The only way to move forward was to restructure with a greater tactician

AVB has been helped enormously by the Bale sale and it was not only the funds that were greater than he could have expected but the publicity helped the club

The team is well organised and that is AVB. The goals for and against are an indication of the team set up. Whilst I do not believe he would be given time if we were more exciting but mid table I do long for us being a tad more quicker in attack and adventurous. Soldado must think he is an island up front.

It is about giving the team time to gel. Opposition certainly don't think Spurs are a soft touch so it's about how AVB develops the playing style

There should be no names considered at present

PS Glad to see Martinez making a good start so I like the way he sees the game

Frank De Boer.
Yeah. I only hope Ajax fans are little bit more long-terms in their thinking and don't have the memories of a goldfish. Considering Ajax have already lost 3 games and sit in 6th position.

Nice. Or sod it, even losing every game 6-2 or 8-5 would even do me. I just miss the excitement. Ya know. Obviously, without the results I'd get on his back after 3 months. Nup. Only when we're playing and winning on a level of Barca circa 2010 week in and week out will I keep my powder dry. I'll not be happy you understand, so demanding are my standards of everyone and everything except myself, but I'll refrain from criticising any of them in public at least.

I don't think that's unfair.

Mate - that is far too nuanced sarcasm for SC but I loved it !

Yeah, that's the cycle of things at Ajax though isn't it. They do well for a couple of years then their best players (Jan, Eriksen etc) move on and they have to build the next batch of quality players, which they always do.

I only hope this AVB retiring to become a racing driver or astronaut or whatever talk is just that. It would be the only reason I'd start thinking about other names otherwise.

He has, in a little over a yr, against a backdrop of completely overhauling a 20+ man squad, changed the mentality of a club. A weak, brittle mentality that has haunted us for decades. That itself is quite an achievement. Given more time I think the sky is the limit.

Less than 18 months ago most on here were teetering on the nearest window ledge at the prospect of us losing our manager to the England job and waving goodbye to Modric.

Does anyone know how Porto played under AVB in terms of their style etc...?

Never really found out. They won the triple, so that must mean they played extremely good football, which in turn means that he can do it with us.
