If Harry had gone to Manchester City two years ago he'd have a cabinet full of trophies and it wouldn't have made the slightest difference to where we are now and maybe in a year's time people would be talking about him coming home. What about that then.

I don’t think its too important but as he’s home grown any figure we get for him helps with our FFP doesn’t it?

If there’s one thing Spurs don’t have to worry about it’s FFP.

Having to sell our best striker, having a dodgy Director of Football, a Chief Football Officer that can’t start work for us and now an owner on corruption charges, they’re all genuine concerns…….but we can breathe easy on FFP. :)

I think it’s Kanes camp that is kicking up all the fuss. Kane is on tour so I doubt he’s going on about wanting to move, but Charlie wants his big payday for his one client it seems.

cant believe the guy has an office for one client! What else does he do all day?

1) We’re not losing 30 goals a season when Kane goes - maybe a new striker gets 15, maybe Richie gets 10, maybe Son and Deki get an extra 3 or 4, maybe Maddison gets a few. A lot of maybes, yes, but we won’t be 30 goals a season worse off.

2) HK doesn’t ’deserve’ trophies any more than we as a club ’deserve’ them. Maybe it’s a combination of my age and upbringing, but the sense of entitlement I see around me these days is maddening. To see it on behalf of someone else is maddening and baffling.

3) I don’t care about how many trophies HK has to his name when he retires. When my time comes (hopefully a good number of years from now) I know for a fact that I won’t be lying there thinking “I wish I’d seen Harry Kane win the CL back in 2019”. Nobody looks back at ‘61 and says, “You know, I’m glad Blanchflower got to win the double - he deserved it”. We look back with wistful affection at the team that won it.

I personally (and pessimistically) see him going there, sort of underwhelming, and Chelsea/United sign him in twelve months time. But hey, he's either ours or he's not.
Best thing to do would be to get a sell on clause in the sale. If Kane is sold to a PL team in the next 2 seasons then we get 30-50% of the fee. That will put Bayern off selling and also effectively increase Kane's price during that period. If Bayern really want him then it should be an easy enough clause to negotiate.

OP was bang on the money

Too many on here are being so OTT with the love for Kane on a personal level, like he is some nice caring second cousin. I don't know why anyone one here would give a flying one if he won anything when he leaves. He wouldn't care if any of you got a nice promotion at work. You all spend your hard earned money on his wages, on the club. He has been paid incredibly handsomely to represent the club any of us would literally do almost anything to have played for, for just 5 minutes.

And on the point of us being terrible without him, Bale was a better player than Kane and we relied on him a lot more at the time. Guess what, we didn't get relegated when he left. It took a long time but we actually improved in the mid term. Let's give some of the other players more credit, we are not a one man team and players come and go. Its a massive shame we havent won anything while he has been here, but that's in the past now - onwards and upwards COYS

What we will miss is the % of chances he finishes in front of goal, I remember the days relying on Jason Dozzell, as long as we don’t drop to those days again

Bayern just feels like such a weird club to join. There are 0 guarantees they win the Champions League (or even make the semifinals) and the Bundesliga/DFB Pokal, while silverware, aren't particularly noteworthy.
There are zero guarantees any club will win the CL. Even City took 15 years from buy out to winning it.

  • Bayern got beat in 22/23 in the Quarters by the eventual winners - City.
  • They got beat in the 21/22 Quarters by Villareal.
  • They got beat in the 20/21 Quarters by PSG.
  • They Won the 19/20 CL.
  • They got knocked out in the Last 16 in 18/19.
  • They lost the Semi in 17/18 to the winners - Real.
  • They lost the Quarters in 16/17 to the winners - Real.
  • They lost the Semi in 15/16 to Atletico.
  • They lost the Semi in 14/15 to the winners - Barca.
  • They lost the Semi in 13/14 to the winners - Real.

So that's them getting to the quarters or beyond in all but one of their last 10 CL runs.

That's 4 semi finals and 1 final with a win in 10.

I'd say outside of Real Madrid and maybe one or two other clubs, they've got one of the best chances of CL success right now. They're almost certainly in the top 3 clubs outside of Real Madrid in terms of CL chances of wining IMO.

The German league title stuff is fairly pointless. But I do see why Kane would possibly chose Bayern based purely on the chances of them going far in the CL. In fact it's very likely they will make a CL final in the next few seasons.

great take

we didn’t win anything with him, didn’t win anything with Bale

We will be stronger in the future without them

We might even get back into the top 5 and beat a Championship team to make it to the FA Cup quarter finals
