I honestly could not possibly disagree with you anymore.

It's this type of thinking that meant we were gifted one of the greatest strikers of our generation from our academy, but have sweet fuck all to show for it.

If over the last 10 years we'd prioritised winning the cups over the leagues, then I'm very confident we'd have multiple trophies to show for it. Maybe a couple FA cups and league cups, 1 or 2 European cups.

But instead what we have is a couple of top 4 finishes and a couple golden boot winners, brilliant.

And I'm sorry because I don't mean to tear into you personally and I know that this was probably just a throwaway comment you made, but christ we have to get out of this '🎶Top 4 is our everything🎶' mindset that has crept into the club under Levy's ownership.

It is the only way that we will get this club back on the right track and start winning silverware again. Rant over.

That is a perfectly valid opinion, and I would agree if it was the FA Cup. But I cannot bring myself to care about the Carabou Cup, sorry.
If we won it, we would get even more banter than we already do, because it is so low on the totem pole.

IMO a top 4 finish is way more important than winning this cup. And I disagree that we have fuck all to remember from the last ten years. I can watch the QF against City and SF against Ajax on repeat, and still get tears in my eyes. The game is about the journey, not the trophies at the end. The majority of all clubs never win anything. If that was all that mattered, no one would watch this sport.

Seriously what is the point of football these days?

Realistically we have no chance of winning the EPL or CL anytime soon. We are not in Europe this season, most dont expect us to even finish top 4, so this was a really good chance to show intent and change the culture of this club. However, it is the same old rubbish.

Losing to a decent EPL team away from home is not a disgrace, the result here is not the problem. The problem is the team selection which clearly shows where the priorities lie. His excuse after the game is unacceptable. If he wanted to find out about his other players, he should have done it to Bournemouth away.

What is the point of qualifying for CL if we are not going to spend the money to actually win it. We havent done it before and i have not seen any signs this happening soon either.

Until Levy/ENIC sell up and move on, we will continue to be a business first. The culture of sporting failure will just continue and i am just bored of it.

I've calmed down a bit now but watching that bought all those feeling from last season flooding back, too many shit players who are toothless and clueless. Sadly the reality is that half our squad is

Well thankfully for me, most people at work call it the Micky mouse cup. I haven’t until now. But I will be, until next season.

I have no idea how we played tonight, was it yet again another case of our squad players not being good enough?

Also the pattern of winning trophies becoming increasingly more difficult over the past decade with City winning most of them. In the 1990s there was more of a chance (considering our club was in financial shits creek) and we won 2 cups. In the 2000s cups and league were dominated by Chelsea, Arsenal and United: I remember it being a big deal beating Chelsea in our last League Cup trophy win especially as we didn’t expect to beat them.

We’ve had our chances over the past 16 years and haven’t taken them in finals. Not all doom and gloom: Newcastle last won a trophy in the 1950s and people still go on about ‘the entertainers’.

Still not acceptable but I’m not surprised by this same old approach. Follow the money and it’s top 4, totally get it, however, also get why our fans are fed up: yet another stick for the oppo fans to beat us with.

Has Ange had a presser or comments released yet? Surely he owns this one and clears the decks of the piss poor attitudes which resulted in a very lackluster performance./result...

That's you. But this is a winnable cup for me and crashing out at 2nd round with such performance is humiliating for me.

I want to win a proper cup badly. But you do you no problem.
But it isn't "humiliating" ffs.

We draw 1-1 with mostly a second team and lost on penalties.. TO A PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM.

We didn't lose 2 or 3-0 to fucking Barnet.

It's disappointing but words like "livid" and "humiliated" just makes you sound like a bloody wet wipe.

One thing I wish Ange would have had in mind was thinking a bit more of penalties ahead of the game, given that the likelihood is unprecedentedly high with only 90 minutes to get there.

Perisic - one of the main penalty takers at Inter

Richarlison - good record for Everton as penalty taker

Lo Celso - took penalties at Betis, have scored for Spurs in shootouts before.

Porro - Good record for Sporting as main pen taker

That’s four players who not only have experience in shootouts but also have experience of taking a pen during the course of the match.

Sanchez is the worst ball striker in our entire squad. With the 11 available on the night, Hojbjerg, Sarr, Davies and Scarlett should have all been ahead of him in the pecking order.

Ange said davinson played well
He did play well?

Certainly didn't have a bad game.

I don't actually think anyone had a bad game really, it's just what happens when you play a completely new team, no one individually was poor, but we struggled to link up in the final third.

Both Richarlison and Lo Celso went out with knocks, can't keep them on the pitch for possible penalty shoot outs

Porto won it.

You have to be in it to win it.

There are a lot of over-reactions going on in here.

We lost a game, by conceding an OG, and losing on Pens. We did not get outclassed. the world is not coming to an end. We are not getting relegated. We lost a game.

And yes, it knocked us out of the Cup. But, if we are honest, we were always going to be long-shots to win the Cup.

Lets see how the squad respond on Saturday, before we start declaring strikes against the manager, and that our good start to the season is ruined.

There are still a lot of things to be optimistic about this squad, and this season. Lets not let a road bump ruin the trip.

Ange will get a lot of flak and I don't think he should have made that many changes but a lot of these responded well in preseason and in their brief cameos.

Remember you can have a really good training week with players but then put them into a game and they simply dont turn up.

Tonight was Ange's biggest lesson. Some players will revert to type and struggle to perform against opposition.

Never take the cup serious over time, then we'll never ever win a cup neither.
Hence our track record from previous couple of decades.
Same in the minor UEFA competitions.
Can only assume manager bonus is depended on league position and CL progression.
Any manager, same history.
