Can we take a moment to laugh heartily at Everton?

It’s a bit bizarre to call him a disaster. A manager comes in to us, gets us top four and a cup final with a transfer embargo and necessarily or out of choice bringing through youth, we build him a fucking statue.

Slightly disingenuous IMO. You make out like he pulled off some kind of miracle but that's far from the case. Yes, they finished top 4, but it's not like he dragged them up from mid-table, they finished even higher the previous season and with a much better points tally, so they actually got worse when he took over, and that's meant to have been his "good" period?.

As for bringing through youth, as you say yourself, he didn't really have a choice so it was hardly some kind of dramatic masterstroke. OK so he was able to integrate them and get them playing, but this wasn't a bunch of kids he plucked out of nowhere, they were some of the most highly rated young players on he country who were long since tipped to have solid PL careers.

His supposed successes are massively exaggerated and only tenuously down to his decision making or management ability. I stand by it, there's nothing he's done to warrant a PL job IMO. You're welcome to disagree obviously, but I would t say it's bizarre not to rate him

Lampard is a strange choice for a relegation battle- has he ever been in one as a player?
But him buying Dele for me means he's ok for now.

I suppose we have to hope they do well now with Dele's financial incentives. That leaves a nasty taste with the way they abused Son. After a week of stories on how badly the club is run and how many deep rooted problems they have I wouldn't hold out much hope of a big return.

If we get a bonus payment this year for them stating up- OK let them finish 17th this year and next year get relegated.
Dele plays every game, becomes prolific scorer etc more for us I presume.
But wanting them to do well NEVER

I think Lampard is a decent manager who's still learning his job. I'd be surprised if he doesn't improve Everton and keep them up.

Fingers crossed Dele does well there. He'd gone stale here, but a change of environment and a manager who understands his position could be just what he needs.

Meh... he was in Redknapp's West Ham when they sacked him for being ambitious, so he technically finished the last season there with them on equal points with 17th, also with Everton coincidentally, but they were all safe and not exactly in a relegation battle in any way.

Man City got relegated that season, for a bit of fun reminiscence

I think Lampard will keep them up, they have too many good players in the squad not to stay up. Alli and Beek are great signings for them, they did look very short in midfield. They just need DCL to get back to full match sharpness and scoring.

They really need to get a couple wins now though, awful run they are on. Newcastle away next week, massive 6 pointer!!

Why would you want Everton relegated? There are plenty of teams I'd rather see completely fail than them.

Back in the early 80s I went to the lane as a young boy and Kevin Sheedy (I think) played a blinder- they beat us! Never forgotten it and I don't like 'em tiz all.

I'll never forgive them for that semi final in 95, when they should've been relegated.

Daniel fucking Amokachi...
If it makes you feel any better, luck didn't appreciate it either. 27 years coming up now since they were last anywhere near a final (that year), never mind won something

As much as i hate Everton unfortunately they've appeared in more FA cup finals than we have since then losing to Chelsea about 10 years ago. Still nothing to crow about but still. I really really want to win a few trophies to shut people up, its still both baffling and devastating how that peak Poch team didn't win anything.

I mean, we've won thee won than them, so doesn't matter much. Everton have lost 8 FA Cup finals out of 13, while we've won 8 out of 9.

If losing finals was an accomplishment, we'd have considered the last 20 years relatively successful
