Carvalho showed today exactly why he's nowhere near Ledley King.

Carvalho has the benefit of playing with a fairly solid midfield and other good players around him. He wouldn't get in our first 11 ahead of Woody or King.
Carvalho is a seriously good defender though. Dont judge him on one game. I would say king is better, and woody would push him, but im not sure that I would say woody is better, we'll see if he gets a nice run of games for us. He is also a lot less injury prone than our two lads.

I'm not basing him on one game, he often loses his man and has to have someone else bail him out, yesterday was just a perfect example for the whole country to see.

Well, on the Berba/Keane discussion, the first 15 minutes have proved Berba's aerial supremacy.

Berbatov is better than Keane in every single department, he is simply in a different class altogether to Keane.

I know that football is a game of opinions but it's hard to see how anybody who watches Spurs regularly could think that Keane was a better striker than Berbatov.

I agree Berbatov is a better player in almost every department.

Keane beats players more than Berbatov does, though... :)

OK he isn't the best at beating his man, but he takes players on more often than Berba does. FACT.

I'm not suggesting Keanes the better player, not for a second, because Berba is clearly our second best player behind Ledley King.

it does not matter where berba is better than keane (in all areas they come pretty close), but keane has the heart - and on the pitch, that makes them equally bad-ass, in my eyes..

Why are you even debating who's better? Both are bloody good! Best strike partnership in the Prem IMO. Not seen 2 strikers with a better understanding the last couple of years

I agree about the 2 strikers thing

But Rooney/Ronaldo & Gerrard/Torres is on the same level

as berbati and I (and others) keep saying - berbs is our best player - there's a reason why he's easily our most valuable player - and that's it :)
well there are other reasons - but that's it in a nutshell :)

When one compares Berba and Keane and asks the question about "the one thing" one of them has over the other, one should mean Keane because Berbatov is better in almost every department of the game: physically, technically, vision wise etc. I'm sure Keane knows it pretty well. And Ramos knows it, too.

Keane has a better workrate, has greater commitment and determination, communicates more and has a lower centre of gravity which makes him better at turning players/accelerating. His movement is probably slightly better too.

Berbs is clearly the better player but there are areas where Keane is better than him, and luckily for us those are the areas we need a striker to excel in to compliment Berbs properly.

how do you measure their work rate? do you have a computer programme or you trust your eyes? Berbatov scores more goals from open play, creates more goals, brings team-mates into game better, holds up the ball better, wins a lot of balls in the air, is more often fouled and defends far better from set pieces. If you think work rate amounts to closing down defenders, then you may be right. But normally work rate includes much more components.

how do you measure the quality of their movement? I've heard players (Defoe) and managers (Wenger) singing their praises about Berbatov's movement, so be careful when you come up with such suggestions.
