He seems to improve slightly with every game he plays for us. Still a long way to go but I think he'll become a good player with us in the future.

Personally he has underwelmed me when he has had his chances so far. Rose has impressed me a lot this season. Couldnt stand him last season. Hopefully there is more to come from Davies in the future.

So who wanted Ricardo Rodriguez instead? ;)

I think most who have seen him play, but the fact that he hasn't moved and their chairman keeps insisting he will stay suggests wanting and getting were a long way apart

I think Davies isn't a bad player but still a work in progress, he has had an unsteady start, but in each game he has improved as the game has gone on and now he's starting to adjust and maybe get over what may be "bigger club" nerves. I think he'll develop into a solid enough left back maybe never quite an eye catching player but then neither for eye catching for flair of fvck ups.
I always remember Denis Irwin at United, never a big name, never a big signing, but probably one of United's most consistent players over the years, from when he established himself he just quietly impressed year on year. If Davies can become half as good as Irwin he'll prove an excellent addition

Too early to judge Davies.

He could well become our first choice left back and remain a steady presence for ten years to come for all we know. I wouldn't write him off after a few months, that would be insane. He was clearly bought for the future.

I think the problem with him is that he has become an easy target for people who want to attack the club's movements in the transfer market this summer.

Assessing our squad right now as a whole, I'd assess Davies as being 'a young left back with some promise. A good player to have in the squad.' His problem is the context in which he arrived.

He has not underwhelmed me. Reason being he is doing exactly what I expected of him, and what was the reason I really didn't want Spurs to sign him. I expected him to not surpass or diplace Rose at all. Once he was signed though, I was OK with it because it meant that we at least finally got a back-up LB and hopefully he could light a fire under Rose, which is precisely the result so far. So over all, because my expectations were quite low, I think Davies is just about meeting those expectations.

Best game for us thus far, last night. Got forward very well and has a sweet left foot on him and seems to really get hold of his crosses and whip them in with good velocity and accuracy right into the danger area. For all his recent developments, this is what Rose has been lacking.

If Davies can continue to look as composed as he did last night he can push rose and then they can really start to properly scrap for the position which can only be good for us.

rose put a couple of great ones in against newcastle and there was the one for soldado against city. even if they're not whipped in head height crosses he seems to be finding his targets more this season.

The two best chances I remember (apart from the goal) were Rose's cross/passes to Eriksen and Kane.

At some point Rose will get an injury and Davies will get his chance in the league. He was solid and effective for Swansea and so I ezpect him to actually perform better in the league than he has in the cups, where frankly you're often in the dark about who you're playing against and how they're dangerous etc. He's had to be a bit more cautious than he would normally be.

He knows the Premiership and if he gets a chance I can see him becoming a solid first choice. Not that Rose would be happy with that.

You can't blame the club for getting him in either considering the season Rose had last year.

Excellent shout on him potentially being Irwinesque.

You would have thought it taking Danny Rose three seasons in the first team would be a good indicator to give Davies a bit more time.

And the £10M figure was surely for Vorm and Davies its just that Swansea said we got Vorm for free to avoid paying his previous club a %age.

So Davies was probably never a £10M fee

I agree he is 21 and still learning the game, I would not be surprised to see him as our first choice LB before the end of the season.

I thought we signed the new Bale, really disappointed in Ben Davies.

He's nothing like Bale.

So this has happened, what do people think of his performances in the last few games? Seems to have been solid without being spectacular. But most importantly doesn't seem to have made too many mistakes defensively.

Should he keep his place ahead of Rose?

Needs a run of games in the team before I can properly judge him. I don't mean 2 or 3 games either, more like 15 odd.

I've never really trusted Rose so would prefer Davies to be given a go.

He seems to be better at crossing, better positionally and a better defender. Sure he's not as quick as Rose but the other attributes outweigh that for me.

I like Davies. Picks his times to go forward and seems more calm on the ball. I would suggest he is better defensively than Danny who is better going forward and has more pace.

Tbh I don't think there is much difference between the 2 as they offer different options. Just because our defence is shite I would stick with Davies and review again in a dozen games once he is more settled.

I think he needs a run of games. Also he's only 21 and only just joined a new club

Too early to truly judge but my gut feeling is he's a much better defender than Rose
