Seriously though.....people need to stop dreaming about a player we don't have. We have GDS...a player with some potential, but nowhere near the ability some people on here seem to think he does.

My response was to everyone I hear going on in every thread remotely relating to GDS.

I didn't go out of my way mate...just went on the barca website...which is pretty simple tbh.

I didn't say you said he scored a hattrick...I didn't say you said he played all the games....you are the one saying I conveniently forgot where he played, so now I pull some stats out...you get defensive

I wasn't meaning literally...I was meaning the marmite nature of the player is the same. Some people idolise, some people can't see why.

but can you not see from my posts I don't idolise Gio? I just rate him as a young player with undoubted potential. Also he's on another level to Taarabt they're not really comparable outside of the positions they're comfortable in.

Yeah sure, I wasn't picking on you...I just class them in the same "frustrating" bracket when it comes to people worshipping their very existance.

I agree that GDS has some potential, but not tons and tons...and not in the EPL...he simply isn't quick enough!

All I'm saying is Gio has undoubted potential not that he's a world beater or anything. Bentleys goal was also more of a hit and hope job too but hey it came off for him probably the only thing that did all of last season.

He does not just have potential.

He is already, a great player. You don't play for Barca if all you have is potential.

You do not play for Mexico on potential alone.

He's not 15. He is 20 years old and is more than ready for our starting 11.

You stick your rumors up your arse.

I will stick with he has played about 7 games for Spurs in the worst team start in Spurs history.

Then got injured.

Then went on loan and scored a bunch for club and country.

Before that he was with Barca and was a regular.

Hold on a minute gibbsy me old boy just a quick question. A couple of weeks ago GDS was part of your much discussed "spice boy crew" and now he's the golden boy of spurs who has so much potential. Why the sudden change of heart?

He's not a Spice boy. He does not hang out with the Spice crew..

He got ruined on our Christmas dinner. Getting drunk does not make you a Spice Boy.

The Spice Boys were a group of friends who were always out together, modeling, WAG drama, crashing fast cars etc etc.

Thats what I want to know...how the fuck does this guy get absolutely idolised when others in the team are slated no matter how good a game they have

If he was THAT good Barca would never have sold him. He made 30 appearances in a Barcelona side that finished 3rd behind Villereal.....the next season he makes no appearances and they piss the league ahead of Real Madrid.

They obviously didn't rate him or he would have commanded more than the £4.8m or whatever it was we paid for him.

He's rated highly by Mexico, well that is something to go on I suppose....Agree with White Stripe.

For all you "he played 30 games and was immense and was their best player and scored a hat trick" crew....

Overall

Total games played - 38 (barca played 60 games)
Games started - 16
Sub appearences - 22

Total Minutes played - 1833 (equivalent of 20 games)

Games won - 19

Not amazing tbh

You've heard different to me.......

Naturally I am not saying that Barca won the league because they sold GDS, but because he played for Barca is not a good enough reason to hold him in such high regard.

Again...2 goals..both quality finishes....no....one goal and then one scored by good old Rick O'Shae.....fuck me mate, if I went was a manager and idolised everyone who scored 2 goals in a half decent game i'd be buying the Ali Dia's of this world!

Fucking hell Taarabt is the same as GDS....don't believe the hype!

Don't get me started about Taraabt......:bang:

I'm not sure if we're agreeing or disagreeing here.....

In regards to the game against Shakthar, I was in the Paxton for that game and remember being really excited about GDS in the starting line up. He scored a good goal, but he was very, very average for the rest of the 90 mins. Good goals don't make players great, Bentley scored a better goal against Arse but everyone hates him!

Whitestripe and Spurs Bear, I agree with all of these points. Whilst I am sure that GDS does have potential, I really do not know where all of the love comes from when have any of us really seen what this guy is capable of. Wether it be Spurs, Barca, Mexico or Ipswich?? NO we haven't, so at the end of the day, if he makes it fantastic, if he doesn't I will not loose sleep.

What I don't get:

Where is this rampant GDS love that people on here claim is in effect?

I am his biggest fan on here and I didn't even say he should replace Lennon or Modric outright. I said rotate.

The love for GDS is measured. And the exaggeration of his knockers on here is just them throwing the kitchen sink at a player they obviously have not spent a lot of time watching.

However I do think GDS can fill Lennons shoes. And if he had as many games for Spurs as Lennon, can you honestly say he would not have a better goal/assist ratio than Lennon?

I don't knock him, I just don't thnk that we as a club at the present moment in time have the luxuary to blend players like this into the premier league. We have some of the most demanding fans in the country and they demand success, not the same start as we had last year. If we thow GDS in the team and we fail at the start like last year, he will have his knockers then. By all means play him the the cup comps or loan him out again, fine, but I feel he wants more than that and currently we cannot give it. So unfortunatley we may have to let him go.

Great response class of 62 , I think amidst the toy throwing, dummy spitting and pram riding, there is quite a lot off reasoned debate in this thread.

As for gibbs123432123, I am starting to think you are on a wind up mate....what planet are you on...lack of pace btw has been in evidence in any of the 15 or so games I have seen this lad play

I think we should keep him and loan him out next season to another premiership team see how he does then. He has the talent to be top top player but like alot of young players & experienced players need time to adapt to the speed and the game over here as its so different to what he has been used to previously in his career. I think that spell at Ipswich will stand him in good stead. Also if we sell him now I think we have to give Barca 10 to 20% of transfer fee.

Is there also a huge fee we have to give them when he passes so many games?

If true, that could be a good reason why he is not playing as often and baffling half the board.

Just found this from an article from aroud time we signed him

of Giovani Dos Santos to Tottenham for a reported fee of 6 million Euro’s with a further 5 million to be paid based on appearances. The deal also involves a 20% sell-on clause to be paid to Barca if the player is sold within the first two years at White Hart Lane and 10% anytime after.

Him fitting into a system is the problem.

Keane, Modric, Lennon and Bentley are his rivals. That's before we sign anyone else. What if we get Robben or Downing?

It comes back to the same old conundrum, he'd be more likely to play if we had a lone striker, possibly 4-2-3-1.

We currently don't seem to have the personell to do that.

Like Bentley we haven't seen the best of him but has he done enough to warrant inclusion?

I'd like to see him have the opportunity, but if he goes I will trust Harry.

I hope we can keep him but he has to want to stay, I believe he wants to go to a Spanish speaking country.
He wouldn't start unless either Modric or Lennon were injured or needed resting. He is a very promising footballer .
2 goals against Venezuela is significantly better than 2 goals against Andorra BTW,there were people on here posting"hero" threads for that I don't mean to knock JD or suggest Gio is better but Venezuela have players in major European leagues they are not mugs.
