I think its a mistake too. The kid's got skills. I know Redknapp has his own ideas and style but can't see why he can't find room for GDS.

Where was he playing, on the flanks or up top? I always want to see Spurs players do well, but they need pitch time. Look at the youngsters, Troy, Parrett, Bostock and the boys who went to Yeovil, they have quality but need playing time, and I just don't see them getting it due to the huge financial implications if they come in a get it wrong. I for one would love to see our subs bench filled with the reserves, to give them a chance to learn.

But where punky? RW over Lennon. No. Not in the centre. On the left? Maybe if Modric moves in-field, but that is three small players in mid-field. In the hole? He'd need to play with a big player I guess, so that would mean putting him in front of Keane and Defoe, again unlikely. So where does he fit in?

well seeing as he's still young, seems like he could learn to be a great impact sub for the time being, maybe having the occasional full game when lennon is resting or injured as a RW cutting in. he seems to be the kind of player that tries to make things happen, and that is always useful. he also doesnt shirk from his defence positional responsibilities.

I like him on the right wing. I know he prefers to play the number 10 role behind the striker, but he's always looked best on the right. His first goal shows how effective he is when he cuts in on his right foot. He also scored a wonder goal from that side in the UEFA Cup. I hope we sell Taarabt and keep Giovani. There hasn't really been anything concrete about harry not wanting him, just rumours. Hopefully he did enough at Ipswich and shows enough from 6th July when he returns to training, to convince Harry.

I would like to see Bale and Modric on the left, Lennon and Giovani on the right next season (not at the same time obviously ). So we have the options between natural wide players and players who cut infield. We can combine the 2 like we do with Lennon and Modric, or even go with 2 natural wide players, depending on the opposition.

I'd play him as an attacking LW or left-sided SS. He often plays either of those positions.

Speaking of RW, if you compare the two in each area, GDS is miles better at crossing, and arguably better at finishing. Dribbling is about the same, but there's no point humiliating a left back and then putting in a crap cross. He can run, pass, shoot, hard to think we can't place him anywhere, even as an understudy.

Especially his cross at 7:25

Let's not get over excited about Giovanni here after last night shall we? They were playing Venezuela.....hardly one of the forces in world football.

Gio's best position is up top, whether that is in the hole or on the right of a 433, he has never, and repeat will never play as a left winger, he just isn't one. He refers to himself as a striker (Soccer AM Crossbar Challenge).

Let's not get on Harry's back for not "giving him a chance" that is such a cliche in football, where on earth would we be able to accomodate him in our side at the moment?

We play 442, does he fit into that system probably not, are we going to switch our formation to accomodate Gio, definitely not.

Difficult one although I do agree that he is worth persevering with.

If he has his head screwed on right then he could be a fantastic player. Second goal was a bit fortunate.

I would give him the time to settle, see how he does in the next six months and then make a judgement. I would rather have him on the bench than put another central mdifielder on there.

We should keep him, if harry is gonna play a 4-2-3-1 formation he can be used in any of the forward 3 midfielders, in fact he's perfect for it.

I'd be very disappointed if we sell him at this point in time.

Have you had a chin wag with harry then cos he's never actually come out and said he doesn't want Gio.......as far as I know he's still a Tottenham player and very much in our plans for next season.

We've got to keep him

If Harry gives up on players like Taarabt, Bale and Dos Santos then he's not much of a coach

Are you suggesting that you think Giovani is better than Lennon?!

"Dribbling is about the same"?! Fuck right off. Lennon is one of the best dribblers of the ball in the world, and most of the time Giovani's tried to beat someone with the ball in a Tottenham shirt, he's failed miserably.

There is also a lot of point in humiliating a left back time after time even if the cross afterwards isn't perfect (although Lennon's crossing is actually good enough now overall I'd say) because it still wears the left back down and puts them off the pace, along with the whole time. It just gives you and your team a boost when you manage to make a fool out of them by beating them so easily, and it oftens creates chances or at least half-chances anyway.

Agreed. Plus I've only seen Giovani put in one decent cross in a Spurs shirt.

I like Giovani and think there is potential there for a superb footballer, but he hasn't got a patch on Lennon at present.

I hope he stays, but if he leaves I won't shed tears because as yet there's no reason to be attached to him.

At Barca I watched him for a whole season filling in as Ronaldinho struggled and Messi kept getting injured and he was just not that good. If he was he's still be there, Barca aren't exactly shy about using their kids now are they? On either flank he looked poor, never beat a man and generally seemed a weakling. His best game by a long shot was his last game in which he scored a hatrick, and that was as a central midfielder in a 3 man midfield.

I have no idea what his best position is, or if he s going to stay. I'd be interested to seem him as our impact option or back up for both Lennon and Modric, but like I said, I've seen a lot of clearly talented players not make it with us and in my book if Gio fails to make it, he's just an addition to that list, nothing more.

Mark Yeates has just signed for Boro by the way.

As has been mentioned, it's unlikely he'll be a LW anytime soon at Spurs. I would be happy for him to be an understudy to Lennon, but he is just that. Let's not forget that he was purchased for less than £5m, when Lennon is arguably worth upwards of £10m.

Fundamently the difference between the two players, is everytime you see Lennon get the ball you expect something to happen, and he to me, is a typical Spurs player, maybe because his crosses etc don't always come off.

I'm sure it is a good cross but youtube can be used for anything. In comparison I'd mention Villa away where Lennon was arguably our best player and had a fantastic game. Lennon hasn't. Away at Chelsea, it was like someone's son had turned up to play in a pub game.

he's a good player but maybe not the right fit for spurs?

good player to have on the bench though, but he did leave barca for this reason..
