Fourth most free kick goals (8) of any player in Premier League history. Also banged in a fair few in the cups.
8 is the 4th highest number of free kick goals, from one player, in the last 30 years? That seems very low.

Edit: just pulled this from wiki:

Think there was a training clip a few years back showing Dier smashing the free kicks in.

Think he's got it in his locker, maybe doesn't back himself matchdays, but I'm surprised we've not seen him try a few considering our goal return in this area.
I mean I always remember his freekick in the Euros vs Russia in 2016, but he also has taken a few for us which have been decent. The one that stands out was away at Palace under Jose. Last minute and the keeper produced a world class save. I wouldn't be against Dier taking them when we play. As soon as we get one and the camera pans to Kane with the ball we may as well just give them a goal kick!

edit: Here it is

Until Kane pulls his head out of his ass (or someone else has the balls to tell him to pack it in) this problem isn't going to go away. We had Gareth Bale on the pitch at times last season and he still played second fiddle to Kane for some free kicks.

It bemuses me that none of Jose, Nuno or now Conte have taken him aside and told him he's not very good at free kicks and to stop taking them.

It baffles me how not one of our attackers spends time on the training ground trying to perfect this. Is the technical ability that low. Anyone half decent could be getting a good 3/4 goals a season from the amount of free kicks we get in good positions.

I think they do - theyre just idiots. How many times they hit the wall is staggering. I am sure they practice but they use mannequins so they dont legislate the fact mannequins dont jump but humans do - so they just hit a free kick as if theyre hitting them using mannequins

I personally dont care if they shoot and miss, i find them much of a muchness so im not as fussed as others are. I am more annoyed at the set pieces from wide areas which dont really cause much trouble.

There was a video from training a while back which showed Kane taking free kicks with the 'wall' of mannequins. Whipped it over the wall into the top corner every time. ?‍♂️

Me and mate at the ground today discussing this point and trying to remember the last time we scored from a direct free kick. Anyone got any idea? Must be a couple of years?
I was gonna say Lo Celso against Pacos but I saw it ended up credited as an o.g

Again, something seems off about that... surely the likes of Beckham scored more?
Yeah it is odd now you mention it. Might only be last ten years, which is odd for the official website.

Eriksen still top 20 of all time, though, so not half bad.

In all honesty, we've never really had many direct free kick specialists. Bale, Gazza and Hoddle are the only ones I really remember.

Cant remember ever genuinely thinking we might score one. I suspect that’s similar for most clubs though...?

Kane has had 53 free kick attempts in the Premier League and scored the one at Villa with the assist of a massive deflection.

Statistically, he shouldn't have taken that, as he had so little chance of scoring.
But he did and it changed the course of the game and then club for the next 4 or so years.

And what we forget is even if they skim the post or clip the bar, it gives the crowd and side such a lift. That has to be weighed in too.

To be fair, all this list does is show how insanely low probability it is to score from direct freekicks. Ward-Prowse, the best in the league scores one every 24 games. Maybe two a season.
Surely, what it says is coaches are stupid to allow their teams to go for goal from a free kick. shouldn’t they be practicing other routines?

Possibly but as others have said, it can get the crowd up if the freekick goes close. Also, if it’s around the D you don’t really have an angle to cross.
