Imagine getting a free kick, one of our players taking it and it going in the goal(because they meant it).

Imagine how strange and surreal that'd be.

It baffles me how not one of our attackers spends time on the training ground trying to perfect this. Is the technical ability that low. Anyone half decent could be getting a good 3/4 goals a season from the amount of free kicks we get in good positions.

it is very strange, if that Kane or Son free kick goes in it with so much time to go it could change the momentum but we can’t do anything, I can’t think of another team who carries no threat at free kicks. Must be a good chunk of points it would turn into.

Me and mate at the ground today discussing this point and trying to remember the last time we scored from a direct free kick. Anyone got any idea? Must be a couple of years?

Eriksen vs Norwich on 28th Dec 2019 I think.

Kane has scored one free kick in his entire Spurs career and it was a terrible effort that deflected in. I’ve absolutely no idea why he feels he has the right to take all of them. I’d kill to have someone like Ward Prowse or, dare I say, Eriksen.

Here's a mind bender... We actually sold Kane in July, we reinvested the £100m in Vlahovic, Traore and Skriniar, the positivity we had in the first 3 games was still ongoing, and everyone is satisfied with the steady progress of a Nuno rebuild.

Instead we've been sold the emperor's new clothes again, and everyone's angry because we've expected a world class manager to turn a bunch of mid table cloggers into a CL level team.

I'm personally just about done with the same old shite at this club.

What I don't understand is considering we have no one able to hit the target consistently, or at all from a direct free kick, why we havn't atleast tried alternative free kicks? If no one can hit the target from a dead ball why not be a bit more creative? 1 or 2 over the ball, laying it off for a better angled strike from a pass? Late run to the back post and a chipped ball in rather than a direct shot? Surely any of these is worth trying rather than Kane smashing it at the wall all the bloody time?

It’s just a basic part of team-building - make sure you have at least one player who’s dangerous at set pieces, preferably two, a lefty and a righty for corners and indirect freekicks at least .Okay, finding a Ward-Prowse or Trent is rare, but it’s been years since Eriksen left and we never addressed it.

Obviously they have been total rubbish for ages but it's even more than that sometimes, let's look at the Son "attempt". What exactly was his plan? He hit such a weak effort that even if he somehow missed the wall an U12 keeper would've just caught thing, it's pathetic.

As for Kane he can hit a moving ball from anywhere in and around the box, he scores with a dead ball if it's on the penalty spot but give him a free kick and his shooting technique just disappears.

We tried it today early on. Son (I think) looked like he was shooting but passed it to Bentacur who was supposed to slip it in for Sess to get to the byline but they fluffed it

That was too far out if I remember rightly? Looked like he was gonna put it in the box rather than shoot? Might be wrong though.

Think it was a few years outside of the box but Son feigned to either shoot or cross directly (we will never know which :) ) but instead just cut it to the left

And what is this ‘team building’ you speak of?

He was shocking for us in the 2018/19 season and the majority of people on this site wanted rid of him.

The trouble is, we've managed to get even worse replacements :ROFLMAO:

True. But we didn’t know Poch made him play on the whole season with an injury that needed surgery. He’s have got a much easier ride if we’d have known that.

100% we miss so so many opportunities to score because of this.

We actually win a lot of free kicks because Kane son and Moura have good feet and clever body positioning but time and time again Kane hits the wall or does nothing with them.

If we had a Ward-Prowse or Willian or Alonso or B.Fernandes etc etc, they’d get 4-5 goals a season from those alone never mind a ton of assists from the ones in good crossing positions.

Should really be part of the brief this summer that one of the signings at least has to be a set piece specialist.

But tbh it is astonishing in a squad of supposedly top class players not one of them can take a decent free kick.
